2017 Worlds Helsinki Info and Chat

Suggestion: What if we will reserve a table or tables from Golden Star: http://hartwallarena.fi/en/visitors/food-drink/golden-star-cafe for example between events on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. So they who want can come there then. It would be fine if we would get so called "kantapöytä" - do not know what it is in english and did not find from dictionary, but it means the table at the same place every day. I will not be there on Saturday, but many of you are. I think the Golden Star suits best. Restel seems to control all restaurants at the Arena, so it is easy to ask.

Hi for everybody! Could you tell me please, is it possible to buy tickets on another website except lippu.fi? Are there other websites or another way to buy ticket, if it isn't avaliable on lippu.fi?

I'm with you on this waxel, of course! Thanks TT Fin for the suggestion and I'd be happy to help organise something, it's my first time in Helsinki though, so I don't know anywhere or what to expect and I'm also happy to take the suggestions of our Finnish friends. Myself and my friend will be in town from the evening of Sunday the 26th, so if anyone is interested in meeting up for dinner in the city that evening, let me know!

The final practices schedule hasn't been released yet, but don't be surprised if the earliest sessions start at around 7 am or so?

As far as I know, the most detailed timetable so far... for the whole event, including practice sessions... is in the Media Information PDF on the official website (see Page 14 of the PDF).

However, that PDF was created quite some time ago... and of course it may be subject to change.
But perhaps it is still roughly correct?

I expect the "coloured time schedule" will be the definitive timetable/reference, once it is published... but even those are typically subject to change right up til the event starts...

NB.
Only the practice sessions in the "Hartwall" rink are accessible to ticket holders. There is no access to the sessions in the underground cave ("practice rink"), or at the Pirkkola rink.

(This is mentioned in the "first information" PDF on the ISU site: "Practice rinks are closed to the public due to lack of seating")

Quite some changes there. And regarding practice sessions:

Men: 3 practices (out of 9) are in Hartwall
-Monday 10:45-14:05
-Tuesday 06:15-10:35
-Thursday 06:00-09:20

Ladies: 3 practices (out of 7) are in Hartwall
-Monday 06:15-10:35
-Tuesday 10:45-14:05
-Friday 07:15-10:05

Pairs: 4 practices (out of 6) are in Hartwall
-Monday 14:15-18:45
-Tuesday 14:15-18:45
-Wednesday 06:45-09:55
-Thursday 09:30-11:40

Dance: 3 practices (out of 8) are in Hartwall
-Monday 18:55-22:55
-Tuesday 18:55-22:55
-Saturday 07:45-09:55

It depends on which skaters are in each practice group... but it might take quite some dedication, to reach the arena in time to see favourites practicing in the early-morning sessions...! (Not sure I have that sort of dedication myself ;-D) I guess the best opportunities are Monday/Tuesday before the competitions start in the main rink, for those who made it to Helsinki by then...

"We have even developed a special World Championships smartphone app, which will keep you up to date regarding the events of the competition."

Does anyone know anything about this app? What will it offer? And on what devices?

I am! In fact I'll be there next Friday night. Lol. Only 6 practice sessions for pairs. But thank goodness they get 4 in the main rink since the practice one has low ceiling.
 
I'm most very definitely skipping a fair amount of practices. I like figure skating, but not that much that I wouldn't go stir-crazy sitting still that long. :laugh: And if they make the Japanese guys and gals skate that early every time, I'm probably gonna have a siesta now and then.
 
My idea will not work. I asked about the restaurants. All restaurants at the Arena are open only during events and ticket is needed to get in. As far as they know, Arena will be emptied from audience between competitions. I understood table can be reserved if you want to eat. They would like to sell us the buffet in Silver Star which costs 38 €. Well, for me it sounds too expensive and I am not fan of buffets. It is possible to go there for drinks or coffee, too. They only mentioned Silver Star cafe and Street food Deli's.

I do not know restaurants or cafeterias near the Arena. The station neighborhood has a big building site, they are building a new mall, houses and the station is under renovation and it is mess. I am not from Helsinki, so I do not know the area very much. I been several times in Messukeskus which is near and may go this time too between events. There is some happening related to my work on Wednesday and Thursday, but I have not decided it yet.

Okei, I will not buy practice tickets. I would have liked to go see men's practice because I will be already in train to north when the competition is. But I it takes from the place where I stay 45 minutes, so at 6.00, no thanks.

I think they have only 6 practices because they finish early.

Plus I find it so funny that the organisers had to give them another practice facility because they can't do elements in "the cave". Pairs is such a crazily dangerous discipline.

All I know is that it's going to have a sort of audience voting thingy where you can give the skaters "flowers" depending on how much you enjoyed them. That way you can see in real time what performances the crowd liked best. I think it's going to be colour-based, so you give like a yellow flower for "meh" and a red flower for "wow", something like that.

Although... it very vaguely reminds me of something. Wasn't there something similar with audience judging at one of the GPFs in Barcelona? During the gala exhibition only, I think.
And it does seem to be becoming more common, audience participation, at other events, too. For instance in some equestrian dressage Grand Prix competitions, the audience can also "play" judge and give marks to the executed elements.
