2017 Worlds Short Dance

So many teams, so few coaches. I wonder if it's a good idea for a low-level team to train with a top coaches. There're only so many hours in a day and you're at the bottom of their priority list. And then there's diminishing returns: promising on the first year together, and the climb uphill becomes exponentially harder and you hit a plateau.

Marina and Igor don't really seem to care if their lower level teams do well, while Marie-France seems a lot more invested. Maybe the two of them are a little burnt out? When their teams get a bad score, they look to their coaches, and both of them (for separate teams, of course, since they don't work together) seem to just smile blandly and shrug.

I don't know why, but it makes me feel kind of uncomfortable.

He is sleeping. Or pouting about the music at 4AM my time. I'm going to walk him during the Ice resurfacing.

oh yeah, a 'Dog pout', I know that, or a 'Dog scowl', please tell him he's got a fan is Poland!

so far, one catsuit on Kavita - checked, MJ alert - 2 counted

Ah the Germans. I really liked them when they first appeared on the scene, but they haven't really progressed. The distance they got on their first set of twizzles was admirable, but that was one sloppy step sequence. And the program is Igor Standard. Sigh. I hope they get it more together next year, because I think the talent is there.

This is my feeling too- they had incredible potential but have unfortunately regressed if anything.

The French team makes me happy though :)

Gaaaaaaaaaaaa! CHANGE THE $&%^ rotational lift already, you young married French team. You've been doing it FOREVER.

Competent. I can see them turning into the French equivalent of Guinard & Fabri -- a team with much judge love that doesn't really leave much of an impression with me. De gustibus etc.

ETA: Wow, behind the Germans. They won't clear. I bet they must have lost a ton of levels. Or the judges are as sick of that lift as I am!

It's a bit mean of me but all I could think of watching the Lithuanians is, "well they're a 'Marina's gotta pay the rent' team."

I know, not a shining moment for me.

:slink:
Not just you(if it makes you feel better;)). I have seen Marina in K&C with so many skaters in varied disciplines this week that made me wonder how much she is expanding her skating biz.

And the funny thing is, the whole Marina/Igor split was supposedly about "Igor wants to take on too many teams."

My, my, how the worm can turn!

I actually really loved H/K's FD to two men in love (is that what it was called?). It moved me during the Europeans

Yeah honestly I thought H/K did fine at Euros I'm surprised they were pulled based on their performance there.

I"m a little in love with Smart/Diaz's SP though so I'm glad I got to see it here. Ideally at some point Spain will get 2 spots but it won't happen this year...
