Some Canadian skaters competed at the Lake Placid Summer Figure Skating Championships. Bennet Toman took home two gold medals and scored over 200 points. No results are out yet but they should be posted here: http://www.lakeplacidskating.com/events/figure.php
There was a paid livestream but I'm not sure if anyone recorded videos or anything. There's no thread on Golden Skate either.

thanks Chuckm. From those posts, we would imagine that Bennett scored over 130 for the LP.

Nick's SP must have been a disaster.

Emy Decelles: nice score that early on.

Thanks chuckm.

That's a great score for Emy D. and seeing Michelle Long's name, always makes me smile. She has such grace and total joy to her skating!

Can definitely see with that FS result why he's pleased...

There definitely is room to go up on the SP..

All in all a promising result for him this early in the season...

well... i am a benett fan ;) i saw him skate first at ACI 2016... and i had never even heard of him before... and he pulled off a nice program there to beethoven, which is so hard to interpret IMHO. Gorgeous 3a.... but since he has been messing around with two quads, they are UR and he is no longer skating as beautifully.. I hope he gets better as he is truly beautiful to watch

It's really close to the old "senior matriculation" or normal school or collegiate that the western provinces phased out with grade 13 in the 1970s as far as I can tell. Instead they extended 'secondary schools' to grade 12.

Ontario went the other way and added 11-13 to all high schools and then got rid of grade 13 just a few years back.

But school attendance is now mandatory to 18 in Ontario, so the last vestiges of the grade 10 junior matriculation are gone.

:otopic:
The 2002-2003 school year was the last year for grade 13, called OAC in those days. My OAC year was in 2001-2002, so the second last age group to have it (1983 babies).

Back on topic here, Zachary Daleman is training with a new pairs partner from the Hamilton FSC, I’ve forgotten her name at the moment. I saw them training today with my very own face eyes. They looked awesome, and this was the girl’s first time ever skating pairs.

Several of the Lake Placid competitors did SP only, as noted---not unusual, for a competition so early in the season.

I updated the results to include Bennet's FS score---it was hard to find, as SENIOR MEN FS was buried between Intermediate Men FS and Novice Men FS, for some obscure reason :scratch2:.

Thanks, I didn't know doing only the SP was a thing there. Relieved to hear they weren't injured/ill and had to withdraw!

And yes, I kept looking for more all over the PDF, thinking something had been cut off, but that explains it.

It seems to happen at a number of the summer competitions. And some of the events are set up for that in terms of entries.

If a skater or team have an SP or SD at the point that they'd like judges' early feedback, they may just compete that.

More rarely the short and long are set as separate events with no overall podium... and some skaters or teams only do the free.

Thanks Haleth for the observation and as TGee has mentioned, this is quite normal for skaters at this time of the year, to do one program only. Skaters want to get some feedback before next steps. It's an introduction to the season and sometimes viewed as, smart to play it safe. The skating season is a process after all, and heaven forbid someone peak in July. ;)

It's unusual for skaters who've done Worlds or JW to do both SP and FS at an early competition. Most of the skaters who have a FS either are reusing last year's FS or have had plenty of time to do a new one as they haven't done a major competition since their Sectionals or Nationals last season.

Thank you to everyone who clarified what was going on at Skate Detroit!

OT: I'm glad Conrad didn't manage to take out poor Joseph in their sbs attempts today  Glad they were both watching out for each other, but I imagine Lee and/or Ghislain (if they witnessed this) was :palmf:
