I think they need to keep as much difficulty as possible because they dont have the PCS scores of lets say the german or french teams etc. 11 Points seperated them and James/Cipres. The jump sequence was just off time from the beginning which is why you cant get it back mid jump. They'll have it on time this season.

which germans? and they have never really been consistent on the euler combo... i say time to try something else... a 3s-2t-2l would give them perhaps just as many points.

Thanks for taking the time to compile your post, Koatterce, much appreciated

I bolded Piper/Paul's SB from last season because I think it might be a typo and 186.10 is the correct number. Again, thanks for the extensive work you put into this post :).

Ooops haha thanks for catching that :) I accidentally copied Kaitlyn/Andrew's twice. Fixed it now!

In case anyone was interested, here are my 1080p fancams of several Canadian skaters from the SCI Thursday afternoon practices (sorry for the wait, but the competition and the crazy-long commute left me exhausted each night)---I sat in the second row from the boards:

You're welcome, TGee; it means a lot that you appreciate my videos. :)

I got to meet Keegan (on Thursday) and Nam (on Friday morning) at SCI! I believe I must have served as some sort of good luck charm for them because they both later received standing ovations for both of their programs. ;) In contrast, I didn't cross paths with Roman, and look what happened to him during the competition! :drama: :sad4: :bang:

It's truly wonderful that Canada has such a breadth and depth of skaters in all four disciplines, despite the occasional hullabaloo about losing a Canadian spot in the GPF or Worlds for a season or two ;) I think that was best shown off at the team event at the Olympics, where our team truly beasted the rest  But seriously, it's an impressive feat!

PS '18 Nationals was in Vancouver this Jan and tickets were like $25... and I didn't go. I'm going to kick myself for a long time for doing that :palmf: I might go to Skate Canada in Kelowna next year tho...

yep, that must have been it!!!! That explains everything (sarcasm lol).

Sorry to hear that you're in a pessimistic space.

My view is that Roman wasn't quite ready for the megavenue of Place Bell.

Nationals has been in smaller venues the last few years. The last time he was skating for such a big crowd in a large double deck arena was likely before he grew.

And after a medal at ACI, expectations were high.

I think it's possible Roman's LP is too ambitious jump-wise this season, but I like the music arrangement. I hope we will have the chance to see it skated well by season's end because it is a nice piece for him.

Sorry to see Keegan fall to second but, this was still a great event for him. Go Keegan.
He fell to 2nd because with the 1st quad Toe he didn't make it a combo and he chose to change his quad Lutz to a triple Lutz. But hey he still got a medal and a chance to compete at the GPF in Vancouver in December.

If he can get the bronze at Rostelecom (which doesn't strike me as overly ambitious), I think he'd have a pretty good shot. 2+3 would have been enough to make the Final in each of the last four years.

I heard a section of the crowd booed Shoma in the SP though

The only booing that occurred at SCI was when Nam's SP score was announced. Considering that we gave him a standing ovation several seconds before he finished skating, the audience felt that his marks were too low.

I (and many others) exclaimed "Oh!" when Shoma fell on his on 3A, as it looked like he might have hurt himself. We were concerned for his well-being, not disparaging him. Honestly, I can't believe the awful lies people concoct to try to make Canadian fs fans look bad. :frown:

Thanks for your input, TGee. I strongly suspect that Roman got overwhelmed by the hometown crowd (the same thing happened to Stephen and Iliya in Richmond). After his bronze medal at ACI, this is the first time in years that Canadian fs fans truly regard him as one of our top men's singles skaters. There's a TON of pressure and expectations that come with that status, and Roman needs to learn to how to cope with our "suffocating" affection.

Running the numbers, Piper and Paul's chances at the Final aren't as bad as I thought they were after the RD disaster, mainly thanks to their huge FD score. We can basically assume four qualifiers:

1. Papadakis/Cizeron (1st at NHK, 1st at IdF)
2. Hubbell/Donohue (1st at SA, 1st at SCI - already qualified)
3. Stepanova/Bukin (1st at Finland, 1st/2nd at Rostelecom)
4. Guignard/Fabbri (2nd at SA, 2nd at Finland)

Zahorski/Guerreiro are the other team with a bronze medal right now, their other event being NHK, where their presumed competition is Hawayek/Baker. H/B supposedly are dealing with a concussion aftermath, so it's possible they won't show, or that if they do show, they won't be at their best, but that's only mildly important -- one of these two will come away with a silver.

Rostelecom, Stepanova/Bukin's second event, may or may not also feature Chock/Bates, also recovering from injury and having dropped out of Finland. Similar to H/B, if they do make it back, they're likely not going to be in peak form, but even if they aren't great they'd be favoured to do no worse than second. The other teams that would be in contention for the silver if C/B don't appear are ones like Hurtado/Khaliavin and Carreira/Ponomarenko, who likely aren't going to get the scores and/or ordinals at their other event (Finland, in both cases) to contend for a Finals place.

Which brings us to...IdF, where Papadakis/Cizeron will reign supreme, and there's a potential three-way brawl between Gilles/Poirier, Sinitsina/Katsalapov, and Hawayek/Baker (again, assuming they make it). Sinitsina/Katsalapov just need to be on the podium to qualify, so they're likely the fifth team, given their big scores so far.

The sixth and final spot will have to be decided here, and the only team seemingly set to be contending for it that isn't actually at this event is Zahorski/Guerreiro. If Z/G take silver at NHK, then they're the competition. If H/B take silver at NHK, then they are. Piper and Paul's first-event score is noticeably higher than Z/G's, even with the fall in the RD, because their FD was so huge, so they're still in a position to win a tiebreaker with them if they take silver at IdF. Which is what it comes down to. If they come second at IdF, they're likely in.

Have you ever been to an event in Canada previously Grapeseed? In all my years of both attending and watching skating events here, I have never heard or seen of what you speak. Fans are well known for being respectful here, regardless of nationality.

I'd have to cosign. I didn't hear anything other than cheers for Shoma and everyone else. It was a very enthusiastic crowd. Actually, there was an audible gasp in the arena at Mako's 3Lz3T2T in the free just off the huge height of the 3Lz. If that isn't a crowd that loves the sport, I don't know what is.

Well, Finland was very kind to Keegan's GPF chances, in terms of how other competitors fared.

Gotta get at least the bronze at Rostelecom, and increasingly I wonder if he shouldn't be favoured to beat Kolyada for silver at this point -- both of his international performances so far this season have outscored two of Kolyada's three international performances (the exception being Nepela Trophy).

I think if both are relatively clean Kolyada will definitely win. But I think Keegan has a great shot of getting on the podium!

Well, yes, obviously Kolyada's ceiling is higher. My point being that he hasn't been performing to that standard 2/3 of the time so far. Keegan's been more consistent.
