Loved this interview with Ayaka Hosoda, currently in 10th place and only the person to land a triple axel on this day:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2VcTZ6nvEk

"I'm so happy! I'm considering retiring after the short!"

She actually did announce her retirement two years ago, but ended up figuring out the triple axel and taking it back. She fell and failed to qualify for the free at last year's Nationals, so it's really amazing to see her in the second to last group, ahead of the likes of Yuna Shiraiwa, Rika Hongo, and Marin Honda.

She also apparently found out during the interview itself that she had officially qualified for the free.

Wish she'd get to go to an ISU sanctioned competition to get that triple axel certified.

Anyone got results? The English results page isn’t working and as always, the translators totally mangle names. 😂😂

(I got “Horizontal Wells all vegetables” this time. So thank you, faulty translation software. Made me smile, and it’s truly nice to know that some things don’t change.)

Lol that must be Yuhana Yokoi. They actually have an English starting order/results page, but they don't seem to be updating it.
Here for your reference:

Thanks for this zanadude! I love Ayaka's comeback story and am so pleased with her performance in the short - so good to see her so delighted!

Does anyone know where I can find translations of all the other interview videos on that same channel?

Lol, that’s what Yokoi Yuhana’s name will literally translate to in Kanji terms!

I happy what Japanese ladies field is strong. Lovely and elegant skaters. I enjoyed watching them as much as watching Russian ladies. :cool2:

These 2 countries advancing the sport and making figure skating better. :clapper: Others should catch up and look up to Russia and Japan. Even the men.

On the other hand, Japan's pairs and ice dance depth is abysmal.

Miyahara is in the same position as Higuchi at this time last year: last in GPF, hoping for a podium place at nationals and, failing that, praying that her body of work is good enough to be selected.

Looks like my Nationals odds need to be updated:

1-4 Rika Kihira: At this time last year, she needed her absolute best to make the podium. This year, she needs to be so-so to blow away the field.
5-1 Kaori Sakamoto: Probably the best chance of picking up >220 points outside of Kihira.
8-1 Mai Mihara: Capable of so much, if her body allows it. Really hope to see her reproduce the magic of last year's free once more.
10-1 Satoko Miyahara: It looks like her era has ended. Her URs are finally being called out, and it's effecting her PCS as well.
15-1 Wakaba Higuchi: Should be much higher, but if she's only just started jump practice at the end of November, then I don't see her having enough time to get there in top form.
100-1 The Field: Don't see anybody else with a chance of winning without multiple miracles occurring.

In hindsight, I think these were pretty good odds. I'm proud that I had Sakamoto as #2 pick.

Ayaka Hosoka finished eighth! Will that get her a Grand Prix assignment next season?
depends, so far there is 5 ladies in top 24 SB, that means 10 spot/18, also Wakaba will get assignment from World Standing, so 12/18. Yuna S. also probably will get assignment since she is 26th, probably will finish no lower than 30 in SB list, Yuhana Yokoi also can get assignment, she's 32nd but might move up if she skate well in JWC, also other juniors that sent to JWC too. So there is possibility but not certain. I'll be happy if she get choosen as host pick in NHK, i really want her 3A to get ratified by ISU, she seems quite consistent with it too
