It says Kihira is working on two quads, the Sal and Toe, but Hamada says she’s not going to compete with quads this season. She wants her to be a beautiful skater, she wants edges and flow. Hamada wants to have a beautiful lady skater with quads and triple axel. [emoji122]

Satoko is training with weights, trying to gain muscles, become stronger so she can jump better. That’s her goal. She’s still struggling with gaining weight, she loses weight too easily so she has to eat a lot. She likes training with Rika, says it makes her train harder. Rika learns from Satoko and Satoko learns from her, so it’s a good situation, according to Hamada, they are good rivals and it’s important to have a good rival.

This is an instance where I wish the skaters had the right to challenge questionable calls against them. At least the tech team should be held accountable for their decisions.

That should be allowed IMO. Since a single unfair call can change the result of a competition. However, i think it's maybe possible, not for skaters individually, but for the fed. Last season, or the previous one, the french fed president did a complaint about the scoring of one of the elements of Capelleni/Lanotte at euros. After the complaint their SD score dropped.

Human body is really fascinating. While some have to starve themselves, being at the edge of anorexia to not gain weight, others have to eat a lot to try to gain weight.

Great interview. I love the mindset of trying to improve technique and make skaters all-rounders. We all know fixing technique is hard, some coaches would rather scream unfair calls at a clearly flawed jump :laugh2: but Satoko has been trying to improve her jumps for some time. She most likely finally got to do it because Olympics are behind us. I like the idea on focusing on Rika's growth both technically and artistically (you can clearly see the improvements on the ice) for this season. No need to chase for quads right now when they could risk making her lose focus. If she can perform well all season, it's also good for reputation building. We all know judges like consistency, that could do wonders for her pcs scores. But it's also great news that she's not dropping the quads. That could change the game. A senior lady landing quads , and since they're taking their time polishing her 4S and 4T, they might actually be of very good quality when (if) she ends up landing them in competition.

oh Wakaba's interview at the airport worries me :(

Speaking to reporters at the airport on the way to Skate Canada, Wakaba Higuchi said:
- her programs aren’t perfect yet, but she’ll do what she can
- her foot sometimes hurts and she was told she’s close to a stress fracture, but she’s been able to practice well while keeping an eye on the injury.
- she’s done a lot of practice on both the short and free programs.
- she plans to wear a new costume for the free skate (orange).
- the steps are the most important part in both programs, and she hopes to grab the audience with them.

That's not good news. Injury close to a stress fracture.

yeah i'm so worried. I want this season to be her breakthrough and most successful one after her fantastic world performance but with a stress fracture she'd have to take time off competition and also take time off to recover. :sad21: i wish i could send her my useless foot

ISU technical specialist Makoto Okazaki (who judged the infamous 2014 Japanese Nationals where no lady got away without at least one UR call) says Satoko is now getting more air time and is able to rotate her jumps more efficiently. He says Kaori's jumps tend to be off-axis, falling slightly inside the orbit, and if the axis were straighter she'd be getting more GOE points.

Oh just read about Wakaba's injury :'( Goodness, shouldn't all the Olympics injuries last season be enough? It's too soon to see another fave got injured ugh

I hope if worse comes to worst, she will withdraw. GP is important (esp as a Japanese lady), but there's no point if the injury's aggravated.

With most people, it's the opposite.

I love this reaction to Satoko

Satoko Miyahara! Her jumps have improved tremendously and her confidence in these programs was through the roof. She really is the total package. Her command of her choreography is second to none. Every moment is considered, every movement is precise and purposeful. She skates from the tips of her toes to the top of her head. Her posture was perfect and her timing was impeccable. Her tango was a little shaky at US Classic but here she just embodied that music so completely. It was like watching a master at work. To steal a line from Dick Button, it’s like she’s Michelangelo and the ice is her Sistine Chapel.

I really hope Satoko gets the PCS she deserves! All 9’s

If it's that bad, i doubt that she can train all th season without it getting worse. But i hope that i'm wrong.

Makoto Okazaki was the technical specialist at last year's Nationals. I watched SP from the stand and 3Lo was clearly at least UR, possibly DG. I could see the trace of UR from my seat. The panel reviewed 3Lo but never called.
