One thing I'm not sure about Yuhana being sent to any CS during the 1st half of this season is that, as she's committed to competing at Jr level currently, I don't see JSF sending her competing at Sr level in any of the CS event 'this year' (I don't recall JSF sending age eligible Jr. skaters to Sr. level competitions, esp. after the season begins). Yes there are cases such as Mitsuki was sent to compete at Sr. level at Asian Open Trophy, and probably Kaori being sent to a B competition at Sr. level during the season when she was competing at JWC. But I'd think those are special cases and special arrangements either before the season starts or after All Japan Nationals.

So pretty much right now without a 2nd JGP, Yuhana should really concentrate on working hard for both regional and sectional competitions domestically, making it through to win Junior Nationals (which is still within her reach), and then making it to All Japan Nationals by the end of the year and make it to JWC team.

I'm wondering who'll go for 3A in a comp next after Hana Yoshida. IIRC Kawabata, Takino, Sumiyoshi, Yokoi sisters, and Watanabe all have made a (failed) attempt in a local comp before, while both Higuchi and Sakamoto have mentioned mastering it and include one in a comp sooner or later. Hopefully we'll be able to see at least one clean attempt at the Nationals this season from any of them above. Can't wait. Also looking forward to Shiraiwa improving her 4S from that landing-forward attempt seen in one of the summer camp clips.

In responding to the post above, how about making a list of Japanese ladies who have challenged 3As in competitions during 18-19 season so far:

1. Hana Yoshida (Jr)- during FS at Gensan Summer Cup, 3A rectified, with 0.00 GOE

Competition chat: Update

This is a blanket post for all national threads as JGP Linz kicks off.

Just a reminder:pray:

Please keep all competition chat in the Competition forums. This includes scores, starting orders, elements, etc. Last week, we tried to encourage folks to post using their best judgement, however, some posters inevitably used various other threads as a replacement for the competition threads, and that is what we want to avoid.

Once the event is over, feel free to discuss in other Fan Fest, national threads, etc.

Should we find that folks are still discussing competition info in these threads, said threads will be closed until after the competition.

Thanks for you understanding and for supporting Golden Skate!

Rion Sumiyoshi rarely or nevers scores higher than the 100-110 area in the FS. Very bad replacement. Good for her, but bad move from JSF.
Maybe JSF thinks that it's important to give international experience to more girls rather than give a second spot to someone who ended 6th and will not qualify for GPF anyway.

Makes sense! It's sad because her FS last week was fantastic but since she cannot qualify to JGF it's the best decision. I hope they're smart enough to send her to challengers at least. She'll need that.

I would like to see some low ranked skaters get some assignements too. Even the little senior Bs in February-march. It's always the same skaters who are sent. I think it was not that necessary to give Mai and Kaori coupe du printemps last season for example. They already had 4CC and olympics (for Kaori).

Throwback to this fantastic performance of Rika's last year. https://youtu.be/okRptZ3l5-k
I hope she can be this confident this season and kill it in her first senior season! i don't know why but i'm feeling pretty positive about her senior debut. i have a good feeling. from what we've seen of her trainings this summer, her 3A is so high & consistent now plus in her recent interviews she keeps talking about how she wants to land it no matter what in competition, she seems so fired up!

I don't have high expectations for Rika in the first competitions of the season.

I thought that she's generally been pretty good early in the year. Later in the season is when she's had her major meltdowns.

I think it's in the mid-season (december) that she's in the best shape. She skated strong programs (despite some mistakes) in junior and senior nats last season. While she seriously botched some programs in JGPs and junior worlds.

I'm guessing Kinayu Yokoi will be the next to try again. This video containing footage from Junior Training Camp shows both Hana and Kinayu practicing their 3A.

Sending Riko Takino and Shiika Yoshioka to compete in the same JGP is an interesting strategy. IMO, Riko's strength is in her presentation, while Shiika is a strong jumper (like Tomoe, good Lutz but needs to watch her Flip edge).
For me, Riko is always enjoyable to watch and I've been anticipating Shiika's JGP debut since last season. Hoping both girls will do their best and fight for a podium spot which I know they're both capable of.

2018-19 State of Japanese Ladies skating

I remember last season Wakababy was on fire at Lombardia Trophy!
And who doesn’t remember that fateful Cup of China? She was amazing there too!
I think this will be a great season for her, now she has gathered so much experience and I’d say she has a little less pressure without having to fight for Olympic spot. Being a Worlds Silver Medalist might bring her the confidence she needs.

Rika is far from being consistent but she had great performances(the best) at Nationals last season. Throughout JGP she had good performances too. Her meltdown at Junior Worlds was thanks to a boot issue, it was not nerves. I read it in an interview(I think it was posted here or at her FanFest). Basically she forgot to adjust her blades prior to the competition. [emoji23]
If the blades aren’t perfectly adjusted she can’t land the triple axel and might have problems with the other jumps too.

All things considered I think she did very well last season. I think her body changed a lot and it seems they’re dealing with it as well as possible.

I too am not expecting her to be this perfect skater all of a sudden but just like Wakaba, now she has more experience and confidence I believe.

They are two of my favorite skaters, I hope they skate to the best of their ability.
