2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

As we can see, Anna doesn't need any quad to win the competition with ease, so my question is: will Eteri let Trusova take the same strategy, or push her to jump 3 quads as in the test skate?

It's more, "will Eteri push Trusova to take the same strategy, or let her jump 3 quads." Trusova soooo does not need to be pushed to do quads.

I must admit that to my own surprise I somehow liked Tarusina more today (over Shcherbakova). Don't get me wrong I like Shcherbakova too, but Tarusina had, IMO, more energy and I just had a better feeling from her program. Hope she gets the second assignment.

Trusova is probably like this in training: ”Sasha, come do some spins!“ - ”Just a second, Eteri! After the 4Lz-3T-3Lo combo and maybe three solo 4T‘s... oh and I could try a few 4S again. One, or two or fifteen......“

I liked Anna Tarusina's personality on ice, I hope she will get a second JGP event!

Anna S.'s dress... gives me Mao vibes, the terrible multicoloured dresses with collars that are absolutely not suitable for young girls. I hope Olga will come up with something better for later competitions.

I was trying to think of what Anna S.'s dress reminded me of and boom, that's it. Mao Asada would have LIVED for this. I like the dress, but she's such a small girl, I feel like it wears her more than she wears it.

We don't even know how many quads she can do in a row. Daniil(?) said that they have to stop her or she'll just keep doing them endlessly.

Shcherbakova's FS is my second least favourite program behind Zagitova's POTO SP this season. Rondo Capriccioso is an iconic piece of violin music and I didn't see much interpretation of it from her or connection to the audience with it. Lack of passion or magic, just using it as a backdrop to go through jumps and rehearsed movements. At least her SP had good flow and seemed much more organic. I don't understand the costume colour scheme either. If I watched her program without sound, Rondo Capriccioso would be one of the last accompanying pieces I would think of. Daniil is having a lot of trouble choreographing a set of decent programs this season especially.

I haven't watched too many programs from this season yet... basically Trusova, Shcherbakova, and Tarusina... but I'm not really liking what I'm seeing artistically. The only program I've seen thus far that is better than OK is Trusova's Kill Bill SP which I really like. It seems like a lot is just being phoned in. Skaters aren't able to add anything meaningful to the music. There's little ability to emote anything. There are a lot of rehearsed movements that you can tell too easily that they are rehearsed. There's little projection onto anything... not the judges and not the crowd. The step sequences are less crisp and meaningful which is really important when much outside the step sequence is just jump to jump with a trick or two in between. And the problem with tanos and rippons is that to some extent that replaces presentation because it's what catches the eye and thus more subtle things won't catch the eye. I really liked the eteri style 4 to 3 years ago but now I'm starting to have doubts.

It’s because you’ve been watching the same movements carbon copied time and time again with no real relationship to a piece of music and theme.

I thougt the dress was cleverly designed to make her look more womanly and give her some curves that she naturaly lacks. She is beautiful in her short program dress as well but she just looks so scary thin there

Was Tarusina's issue on the spin the fault of the coach/choreographer or did she lose concentration and forget to do a position or something that cost her? Surely her team didn't plan an error in her program?

We haven't seen anything here, the big skaters weren't here, so of course Anna won without 2 backloaded combos or quads.

But against a clean skate from Trusova with quads (1, 2 or 3) she has no chances to win with these contents.

I think they watered down the technical contents a bit (i'm not talking about quads but the 3f-3lo and 2a-2t-2lo) because she needed a clean skate, simple as that: if you look at last season performances she bombed 2-3 programs down the line including the FS at Junior Nationals, they need to make sure all her triples are clean and consistent first.

Plus as we saw from the test skates, Eteri's skaters are still not 100% in shape.

Anna Tarusina is a great performer, she expresses emotions on the ice, the program felt a little improvised.

About the second assignment it's not impossible but i've hard time believing that the other skaters will score 119 or lower for the free skate.

I bet Eteri picked the dress based on previous dresses from her skaters that are very similar.

I like it: it suits the style of the music, and at least it is age appropriate.

I saw you nickname, and it occurred to me that I can remember several wonderful programs to Rondo Capriccioso and the Bacchanale from Samson and Delilah, but not to Danse Macabre, which is unfortunate. Figure skating (and Anya Shch. in particular) made Saint-Saёns one of my favorite composers.

Just a second, Eteri!

They don't address or mention her otherwise than Eteri Georgievna.

I don't know if that's what they were going for but regardless, the notion of trying to make a fourteen year old girl (especially a child competing in juniors) look more womanly makes me so uncomfortable. No me gusta.

I'm sort of pleasantly surprised that Danse Macabre hasn't been used to death.

Seems like you are NOT a fan of pairs or dance where girls look much more mature that their actual age
Well I am a fan so I like Anna's FS too

I rewatched Anna's FS again.
I liked it much much greater than the first time I watched. I definitely worried too much about Anna the first time.
It's a gorgeous program. It’s as graceful and expressive and elegant as her SP but much darker and intense. Totally different mood and atmosphere.
She wasn't perfect on all of her elements but some elements were definitely great and nearly perfect.
Amazing spins. WOOW
Great musical and intense stsq that go perfectly with the music.
Jumps were good besides 3Lz3t. But I know she can do it much better. And I didn't know her 3F3Lo is THAT good. WOW. Her spiral into 3lz is one of my favorite for sure.

She really overwhelmed me.
