2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

In my opinion Kanysheva should have been assigned for Ljubljana: she has the highest PB among the silver medalists and with this field she could have competed for the gold as she deserves.

No, because Yerevan will be much harder, with Araki, Yokoi, Harrell, and Seoyoung, so it's good to have two top skaters there.

I was just thinking the same thing. Maybe the rationale was that with her score from the last competition she can still make the final with a silver behind Trusova, whereas Tarusina and Tarakanova both need the points a win would give them to make it. The Fed kind of set themselves up for a dogfight in Slovenia.

So at best Kanysheva will end up having two silver medals (unless Trusova WD) despite she deserved an easier field way more than Tarakanova and Tarusina who both made mistakes and received lower scores at their previous GPs. I don't think that's fair for the athlete.

Also i've noticed Buyanova is in Ljubljana for Tarusina, time to go shopping and find new skaters?

I‘d rather have Kanysheva in Slovenia and win a well-deserved gold there but the fed probably thinks about JGPF spots more than about what a certain skater deserves or not.

Buyanova should take care of her own skaters first. Like, focusing on getting Polina back on track and fixing Lena‘s jumps and Masha‘s URs. That seems like a better project.

There is no official message about Trusova. She's on the list of Yerevan GP participants.
The Fed has a couple of days to decide on substs.

Because Sasha will likely go. I know a fever is nothing to take easy but she still has a few days to recover and maybe they‘re banking on her going? It‘s her only chance after all since it’s the last JGP event. And what would JGPF be like without Sasha Trusova? A chance for the other skaters to grab a medal but still... I don‘t think Sasha will let this chance pass unless her condition is really bad. Which I really, really do not hope.

Apparently Trusova has a fever. Hopefully she'll be recovered enough to make Yerevan and not have to miss the final, but I believe in her. She's fierce enough that she'd probably try to pull a Medvedeva and go anyway (and she's probably strong enough to still win)

Oh NO

In no universe is Kanysheva with her equally tiny barely rotated jumps and snooze-worthy interpretation in any way better than consistency queen Tarusina, nor could she have beaten Kawabata today. Do not let the scores fool you. Overzealous panel in Austria, PCS undeserved. Vasilieva was robbed in comparison last week.

You think Tarusina has better jumps than Kanysheva?

(I'm gonna get into the fan rivalry of the non-Eteri girls and I am team Tarakanova and Kanysheva.)

Anyway, it makes sense that Kanysheva is being sent to the more difficult competition, since she's more likely to outskate her competition there than Tarusina or Tarakanova. Rusfed is definitely not thinking about how to "reward" their athletes with easier medals, but who has the better chance to win against tough competition. Though I will be very disappointed if she isn't able to make it to JGPF.

?? Wow, wow, no need to be so harsh. I saw Kanysheva live in Austria and both my mum and my friend who know next to nothing about skating noted that she was special, wonderful and really graceful on the ice. Vasilieva and Kanysheva are very different skating wise. Vasilieva has a raw quality to her that isn‘t polished yet at all but could grow into something powerful. Kanysheva however is very graceful, more calm and to some who prefer the powerful approach (a la Trusova and Vasilieva) she could seem boring. Her PCS however, are in no way undeserved because whether one personally enjoys her skating is a matter of PREFERENCE nothing else.

And also: No offense but... Tarusina isn’t exactly a big jumper either. And Kanysheva - in comparison - has higher jumps.

Also, Tarusina is more mature, yes, I agree with that. But she‘s also two years older so that‘s probably only natural. Alena is only 13 and there is always a difference between a 13 and a 15 year old. So, she obviously has time to grow artistically.

Both girls have been very consistent so far and I hope it continues to be this way.

Agreed about Vasilieva. She was robbed last week. I feel like her scores were artificially suppressed to ensure Russians didn’t take 1st and 2nd to avoid an all Russian final. But her performance really should have won in my eyes given Alena’s mistakes.

Over both Yelim and Alena?

Sasha is so fierce, there‘s no way she‘ll miss the JGPF. She‘ll fight her way through. Poor girls. Alena with her hurt finger, now Sasha, too... So young yet so tough. Wow.

There’s a little bit of good news: Alena is well now, according to a fan on Instagram who visited Sambo-70 and watched the girls practice. (Same person who said that Sasha had a high fever.)

Vasilieva was not robbed. She had a lower base value than Yelim in both the SP and FS and she got a lot of edge calls. In no way was she better than Alena and Yelim.

I didn‘t know you were allowed to visit Sambo-70 and watch their training. Interesting, though. I hope both Sasha and Alena will be fine and ready for JGPF. :)
