2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Poor Yulia was lazy, Pitkeev was lazy and Voronov was lazy too. Too many lazy students in her group.

well tbh not sure about others, but to be fair, other coaches complained about voronov's working ethics too before.
also, you guys should read what Plushy said about sima to use that as a benchmark.

If it's true, what Evgenya said to Eteri about Alina...and i think Eteri cant lie, she has no reason to this. In this way, Zhenya lost all sympathy...+1 Team Tutberidze

I had the opposite reaction. Prior to her comments, I did not have any interest in this split. I just figured Evgenia was ready for a change but after the comments Eteri made I am Team Medvedeva all the way. Even if what she said is true, I can easily forgive a 18 year old who is the midst of an emotional event for a few unkind/ stupid words. I can't forgive a 44 year old woman for going on national television, sharing secrets with the world, trying to cause divisions between her current and former studetns and mean-spiritedly badmouthing a former pupil. I support Medvedeva 100% percent. Who wants someone like that to be their coach?

Eteri has no reason to except from the fact that her most loyal skater has just left her AND she definitely hasn’t lied about any of her skaters before when they’ve left her

I think Corwin was being sarcastic.

And even if all the students that left her were lazy, is just so wrong to smudge them because they choose to change coach. Its like she just can't respect choices that professional skaters feel to do sometimes, even if they starting to feel that while training in an environment so focused on grow much younger skaters.

I hope that is not true. I really like Polina. Her jumps and SS are really good. If Eteri does not want to coach her anymore, she should just allow Polina to peaceful move to another coach.

Well I hope so too, but the issue is about control-control over her skaters, her school, and how she wants her girls to compete against others and against each other. She doesn't have that control anymore if 2/3 are gone.

About Polina, i think she really need to change choreographer and find her style. When i have see her this season it was like both programs just miming what Evgenia has show in these years, but don't fit with its physical structure.

How can Game of Thrones be similar with Evgenia's programs??

LOVE IS BEAUTIFUL.

🙄😬🤨😕🤔😐

Yes, I want Polina to get new choreography too. But how do we know for sure she is leaving Eteri?

It's well known that Eteri is a fantastic coach for kids and younger girls. No doubt Eteri is already focusing on the next Olympics at Beijing. Heck, she already brought in Maya Khromykh & Kamila Valieva like a month after Pyeongchang. Clearly any coach would want to produce the maximum number of opportunities to achieve results.

It is also well known that Eteri has not produced champions after they hit a certain age. Many feel that Eteri is a specialist and is great at producing results at "just the right age". It's hard debating this cuz there are no contrary evidence. Now on to Zhenya, she's been with Eteri for ELEVEN yrs. She's seen everything and been thru everything. She knows what kind of decision she's making, what she's giving up, and what it'd be like had she stayed.
Girls losing jumps to puberty isn't unique to Eteri. She is in the spotlight more due to her girls' results pre-puberty, of course. And what you are not taking into account here is two things.

The first thing in its simplicity is that Medvedeva didn't lose her jumps to puberty, of course. Certainly, she wasn't a champion due to Zagitova, a younger girl, being better. But that doesn't really mean that Medvedeva herself was bad. Even injured, she would have been able to win Olympics over anyone not Zagitova. I don't see how Zagitova being better than her would diminish Medvedeva's own qualities. Also worth mentioning is that the case for every girl who left Eteri is that they didn't really manage to bounce back afterwards. Who knows how Medvedeva would have done 4 years from now had she stayed with Tutberidze or if it would have been better or worse than if she hadn't left? It's tough to make these assessment without data. The second is that Tutberidze doesn't have anyone older than that. Her oldest skater for the ladies is now Zagitova, I believe. So of course, if the older skaters don't exist, they won't be able to have the results. And the state they come to Tutberidze is quite different, also. She tends to take girls who are barely junior age or younger and develop them herself through that age. It's quite a different thing from taking significantly older skaters - For instance, taking post-puberty skaters who didn't lose their jumps. That situation is of course much more predictable to deal with.

Then think about the time frame. How talented were Sotnikova, Tuktamysheva, Lipnitskaya, Radionova, Pogorilaya? I think that all of these are a clear step below when it comes to the basis to work with, though some might disagree. The first truly talented age group was Medvedeva's. Now, my favorite out of these, Alexandra Proklova, suffered a career-ending injury. She wasn't Eteri's student, by the way. How sustained has Pogorilaya's career been? Constant inconsistency. Radionova's? She always was inconsistent, though she benefited greatly from the lull during the 14-15 season after the retirements and the Olympic duo's struggles. Sotnikova, Lipnitskaya?

Well, Lipnitskaya might be worth bringing up here. The jump technique wasn't good at all and she learned her triples late. I assume that Eteri somewhat knew that there wouldn't be much hope for Lipnitskaya retaining her jumps after puberty due to how poor the technique was. And in the case that's what she thought, she would have been correct. Sotnikova I... Well, she never really had stable jumps. She never skated clean, URed all the time. She had one somewhat clean competition at Olympics. But she too didn't have very much to work with. And by the way, she also isn't Eteri's skater.

Getting to the age group of the 2013-2014 juniors, the significant talents:

Alexandra Proklova. Ended career.
Evgenia Medvedeva. Extremely successful.
Maria Sotskova. Inconsistent, URs around 7 times a competition.
Serafima Sakhanovich. Middle of the pack.

You'll note that out of these, Medvedeva's been by far the most successful and also is the best skater at the time. And here I'll note some significantly injuries / potentially ended careers:

Adelina Sotnikova. Coach: Buyanova.
Anna Pogorilaya. Coach: Tsareva
Alexandra Proklova. Coach: Goncharenko

Oh, it's not unique to Eteri.

The reality is, when pushing the limits in any sports, injuries will happen. And if you don't push the limits while others do, you get left behind.

On eating disorders. That's an issue in figure skating in general. Recall Gracie Gold, for instance? But I'll emphasize that if people actually believe that Eteri's skaters train many hours a day without eating anything, that's just not possible. The first thing is that athletic performance would suffer, which obviously would make them change their approach. Figure skating requires explosiveness and good performance simply isn't possible without getting enough energy.

No, seriously I think so, and I'm not alone.

Wait, you think that Eteri can't lie, she has no reason to?

You do know the girls in her group worship Zhenya, right? I don't know if she's being truthful, but there's every reason for her to drive a wedge btw the girls.

And this one was beautiful,too.
Polina has great potential for the drama ( maybe she felt this yseason just like the little sparrow from the song).
But I totally agree with you.She needs more work at choreography.
Sadly, even if she'll stay at Sambo 70, I don't think that Daniil Markovich will give her enough time and work with her at this part.
And, btw, I miss that at Daniil Markovich, how he spended more than a week to create "Game of Thrones"for Polina and thinking about her personality.

Alina just posted a Instagram pic with Eteri at an auguration or something. They both look happy. Maybe the good thing that will come out of this drama is that Eteri will care more about Alina now. The poor girl needs more love.

Sadly, Eteri cares more about medals than people.
Let's see how she'll treat Alina when she'll be injured (not that I wish her or anybody that)

Well... I am not sure Alina needs more love from someone who went off on her previous students like that. I love Alina and I hope she will be treated better.
