2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Mikhailova, Nugumanova and Leonova are not part of the national team anymore so very unlikely they will get chosen.

If Pogorilaya is healthy enough she should be the obvious choice but still no news about her injury treatment, hasn't trained in a while and right now is enjoying her honeymoon so she won't be ready. We don't want another SC disaster. :slink:

So it comes down between Samodurova and Sakahnovich only. I think Sofia has the edge thanks to the Mishin lobbying.

Apparently they had their honeymoon before the wedding:

"Now I have a season to start, so Andrei and I decided to go on a honeymoon before the wedding. We chose Greece. Perfectly rested, so I start trainings with good emotions and a beautiful tan."

Note: Whether or no she will be ready in time for the GPs is, of course, another question.

I feel sorry for Daria. I doubt an athlete who accomplished as much as she did just sulks in a corner without reason. This season is her biggest chance too and I imagine she would be important for Eteri as only one of two senior Russian skaters this year.

Well, to be quite frank, I doubt Dasha is that important to Eteri. She might have only one senior skater this season but it‘s not any skater, it‘s Alina Zagitova. She will get a medal at every competition anyway, while Daria probably won‘t. And next season there‘s Shcherbakova, Kostornaya and Trusova all turning senior. So, even though it sounds harsh, I don‘t think she matters that much to her. It‘s not like Eteri is running out of skaters anyway.

Which is quite sad actually. Still all the best to Dasha whatever might have lead to this change.

Awwww, really? ☹️ Mikhailova and Nugumanova and Leonova aren’t part of the National team? Did they get kicked off somehow??

So it’s a sure bet that the host spot will go to either Samodurova or Sakhanovich? There’s no one else?

Isn't Valeria part of the junior reserve? I recall asking about that when the Russian team was announced, as it seemed odd to me.

Well, if Panenkova has left, then Tutberidze's team has become quite... concentrated. There's just Zagitova(and Tursynbaeva) for seniors, the super strong group of junior girls, the group of girls who are eligible just in time for the 2022 Olympics and a couple of younger talents.

It's not so much a matter of getting kicked but instead no longer having good results to stay on the team.

Mikhailova and Leonova didn't make top 12 at Nationals and Nugumanova didnt even qualifiy so their results do not merit funding and consideration anymore sadly.

Now Dasha had an air through Instagram. She has told that she remains in Moscow, and concerning Glekhengauz's interview - every time I learn something new about myself from other people.

so it looks like she didn't leave the group after all. :sarcasm:

She might not mean that she didn't leave the group, just that Daniil is wrong about why she left and her behavior.

If she was staying with Eteri, I'm pretty sure she would come out and say so.

#DRAMA #MESS :drama: why does leaving eteri always come with so much drama? :palmf:
Off topic since she isn't russian but it seems like Lilbet could be the biggest beneficiary of all these coaching changes. She'd be far from one of Eteri's priority but now with all the senior girls gone, only her and Alina are left. I don't know what Eteri could do for her but it's gonna be interesting to see what comes out of her going back to her. Plus it's not like she's new to Eteri's methods. She was her coach before and she spent her summers training there.

We should hear news of Alina heading to Japan anytime now :yahoo:

i'm happy that she's practicing and working towards next season and everything with rumors about her health! Go Nastya

Most of all I hope she‘s healthy, I agree. But I actually like that she chooses music like this for her program, it‘s certainly something different. And it definitely suits her well! She has something wild and unrefined about her skating but in a good way. When Nastya is skating she‘s radiating power and freedom. It‘s quite different from the usual lyrical style I prefer, something like Evgenia or Alena have but I can’t help but like it because she just seems so genuine. It‘s incredible how young these girls are and still they all have their own, distinguishable style. Sasha, Alena, Nastya, Anna... They‘re all so incredibly talented yet no one is the same. I don‘t get how some people say Eteri has a factory that produces skaters that are simple copies of others and are only designed to get success. I mean, just look at the 4A and you see four totally different girls. What they have in common? Well, they love to skate and they‘re winning, so... ;)

Do we know whether this has officially been confirmed to be her music choice yet, though? I hope she‘s having a great season anyway and her coaching change‘s working out! :)

:agree: to all this!

And about Nastya, not sure it is confirmed but there's another clip of her practicing a program to the music with Plushenko doing whatever it is he's doing next to the rink boards!

Oh, God! ...did Plushy finally find a skater who is made for his choreo? I think yes. This looks so promising. I can't believe that I am saying it but she's the only lady right now who made me really excited for the next season. Wishing her to be healthy and strong. Go Nastya :yahoo:
