2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Well Alena already has higher PCS than Sasha in the free skating at 2017 JGPF and 2018 WJC especially the latter when Sasha successfully landed two quads and Alena didn't even have 3A, so I guess the difficulties do not necessarily reflect the PCS.
For short programs, I think Sasha and Alena both have reasons to get the higher PCS, I agree Sasha doesn't have the maturity that Alena has for now, but something in her performance really impressed me, and I think Sasha also has the artistry that we should not overlook, that's something very special and different from Alena's artistry, for me they are equally outstanding in their ages and both are very impressive performers, much more superior than the rest of the field.

I agree that they‘re both outstanding. Sasha is a little firecracker and she‘s full of energy but I don‘t see much of a connection to the music yet. She is powerful and racing across the ice and you can see her excitement but it just looks like she‘s focused on fulfilling her task, on landing her jumps (which I seriously can‘t blame her for, these quads are crazily scary) and complete the routine successfully instead of really ”feeling“ the music. She has good skating skills and she‘s very, very young and no one can deny that what she‘s doing is breathtakingly dangerous yet brilliant but I‘d just like to see her improve in this department as well. It doesn‘t mean she has to skate like Anna or Alena who are more of the lyrical type of skaters. I think she‘s more like Alina, suited for dramatic, powerful pieces of music. But just like Alina in the beginning (and still, though she did improve considerably) she‘s not that connected to what she‘s skating to, yet. She is all in all a 13 year old girl on the ice who achieves technical brilliance. But if she grows up and her team helps her work on the artistic side of her skating as well as the technical, she‘ll be truly unstoppable.

I'm very happy with Evgenia's music choices. They are different enough from her style so far, but both I feel could suit her really well. :agree:

Let's guess how much PCS will Alena/Sasha/Anna get in their first competition if they are clean:laugh:
I think 30/62 for Anna(Considering this is her first international competition), 32/64 for Sasha and 33/66 for Alena
That would be extraordinarily high PCS for Anna for her first competition... The rest seems very high also. But I don't know if they'd give Alena such an advantage over Trusova, last season they certainly didn't seem to have any intention of doing so.

I'm expecting around 28/58 for Anna but would of course be pleasantly surprised for something more.

are u kidding? all of that is so high for junior... i believe Alena and Sasha 30 in SP last year is the first time ever junior reach 30, well even for Senior 32 is already good, 33 is pretty high, Sotskova, Daleman, Wagner usually got 33.... and for FS PCS junior record is 62 iirc so 66 is almost impossible. I think we might get 31 close to 32 and 64-ish at max for Alena/Sasha. Anna maybe 28/58 like Shayuki said, and if she's consistent then maybe 30/62 by JGPF/JWC (assuming she went there)

I believe people usually overlook the fact that Sasha has great musicality (in my opinion) when they compare her with Alena. Her SP especially was fantastic, i think the music choice for her LP wasn't the best (but that's my humble opinion). Alena did deserve higher PCS than her in LP but in the short program, Sasha was just as good.

So if they won’t send 3 Eteri girls to JWC for politik reasons, who gets the third spot and which Eteri girl stays home?

My gut says Trusova and Kostornaya go, but if Shcherbakova has a solid 4Lz, I think she has a chance to knock Alena out of contention :sad21: I'd actually give Tarusina the edge in getting the 3rd spot. I'm not sure enough of how Gubanova and Tarakanova will perform.

Gubanova probably the favourite: she is coached by Buyanova and Tarasova so of course she will get the score boost now.

Other candidates

Kanysheva/Sinitsyna/Kostyuk
Tarakanova
Tarusina

It depends clearly on how they will skate at JGP (who gets the spots) and nationals.

i have a hard time imagining a junior girl having a solid, consistent 4lz (as even senior males struggle with it) but i'm definitely up for being proven wrong.
I feel like this season is gonna drive us all crazy

They would send all 3 if they make them send all 3... If an Eteri girl stays at home it'll be the one who made a mistake. But they're not going to send random skaters over clean quads / 3As

i had even harder time trying to imagine any clean quad in ladies, but in the end Trusova has landed not even one but two :scratch2:

I have little doubt she’ll continue into seniors and still be throwing quads full send. I don’t know...I’d rather be wrong believing in her than anything else. She also has a really solid technique IMO so I see little reason for doubt at this point..... especially the Salchow which is very impressive.

Sasha is unbelievable. But I can‘t deny I‘m pretty worried about her. Those quads look painful on the hips even when they‘re landed. We constantly see skaters injured even when they‘re “only” jumping triples. And some of the falls she had this season looked downright scary. I wish I could just enjoy history being made while it‘s made and not think about anything else but I can‘t help it. They‘re all so young and I don‘t want anything to happen to them. I understand that their team is doing what they can and that they‘re careful as one can be with the quads but... As much as I admire Sasha I sincerely hope quads won‘t be standard in ladies skating soon. I don‘t think I‘d be able to watch all those crazy falls😅

I wonder what people have said when women started to jump triples. Of course there is always health concern, but at the end you never know if something is possible or not before some crazy individual would come and try to do it.

As for the quads as a standard, I doubt about it, at least for the next olympic cycle.

i knew ladies would end up doing quads, it was only a matter of time. It took so long to see the 1st ladies 3A but it ended up happening. I knew someone would have the b*lls to go for it. And of course that someone was Tutberidze

edit: lord forgive me for forgetting Miki Ando

This is true, but regarding the 3A - in spite of Midori Ito and Tonya Harding landing it in the early 1990's - there are still very few who have successfully done them in competitions. And out of those that have landed them, even fewer have been able to be consistent with them.

The same thing may happen with the quad jumps. I guess we will have to wait and see. Especially where the new rules don't seem to reward "risk" as much.

I just can't wait for the JGP.
A year ago I didn't even follow juniors, but now I'm looking forward to it even more than the senior grand prix. A big thanks to all of you from this thread (and last year's). I learned a lot from you all:agree:

Her quad Sal has a noticeable leg wrap. Could lead to ur once her body develops.
