There is always hope and even if she finds herself outside looking in the ones who are ahead of her could bomb. Not really likely but there is always a chance...we all thought Liza was done and then she won a WC.

I'm definitely hoping for Evgenia to go to Beijing but we have to wait and see her progress at TCC season by season. If i see her qualifying for the national team against the juniors i'm gonna be really impressed. Alina beat her thanks to her 3lz-3lo and now almost every russian junior can do that combo + the technical difficulty in the ladies field keeps getting bigger. She had the upper hand thanks to her huge PCS scores but we've seen that judges are willing to give those big score to another russian girl who performs well so she can no longer rely on that alone. It's gonna be tough for her but she's a fighter and she's definitely not going down without a fight! :agree:

I'm not sure why you are pointing out this already discernible distinction to me. Kostner, for example, is an Italian who gets on podiums representing Italy training with Mishin in Russia and with Huth in Germany. Clearly, skaters look at opportunities to train in foreign countries for an environment that may better suit them. Orser is arguably the best current coach in the singles discipline. As you know, he has coached Hanyu to two consecutive Olympic golds, the first OGM to accomplish this since Dick Button, and Yuna Kim to her OGM in 2010. Having coached a skater to an OGM in singles in 3 consecutive games is quite an achievement. It doesn't change the fact that they're Japanese and Korean, respectively. But their training environment in Canada has no doubt helped them realize their potentials. Clearly, as others have pointed out throughout the off-season, Med has a long-term plan for her career and she has chosen to move overseas to Canada to pursue it.

There are always chances and beliefs. In her 2015 interview Leonova was seriously talking about her 2018 Olympic podium plans. And at that point one could believe her. I remember her Chaplin SP and her lead over Liza in Obersdorf - Liza became a WC later on.
But seriously Evgenya had her biggest chance and she was within an inch to get it - the stars did not align for her that day.
I'm guessing at Open Skates on 9 september.
By the way. There is article about hormones with some inside info from girl who left her coach this spring (Med?). Mentioned stress fracture...

Thanks! I missed your post due to another exchange I was having.
And to Tolstoj, how many of those 15-17 year olds finished on the podium in every single competition they competed in the entire season, with as many or a greater number of competitions as Osmond? There are reasons why she is currently ranked #1 by the ISU, made up of her consistent competitive results from the past two seasons, and she deserves to garner greater respect.
As for Alina's arm variations, I do like the arm variations used in her flip combo, especially the tano on the 3F. But imo, the wow factor diminishes with each additional jumping pass and competition.

They’re not limiting the amount of quads ladies do so it’s not really regressing, it’s pushing the ladies to do harder elements in base value rather than execution
