2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Fluture: Thanks for reply, yes, Im thinking Im gonna be fun of Anna Kuzmenko. I like exactly what you mentioned - connection with audience in her. Its something what other russian girls seems to not have despite their indisputable technical and artistry dominance. Anna isnt so perfect, but she have some fire inside and own funny expression. I think I even saw her little clap for audience during her skate

Is Anna Russian but competing for France? She is highly talented. It seems like Russian girls who don’t make it to the top spots may decide their best shot is to compete for other countries.

katymay: I would put my money on that Sasha will jump quads ASAP. She is like loaded gun, she wants to show what she can do and have no reason to wait, her jumps are already stable enough and it can be more risky to try, in competition untried things, in JGP final, than to just do it in normal JGP round.

Sugar Coated: Yes, Anna is russian (yet her surname can point on ukrainian ancestry) and train under Sveta Panova, but compete for France. I guess there will be more such girls from Russia in coming years.

I was trying to think of even one senior who can compare to her. I can't think of one. Unrelated, but how much stress do you think Trusova is feeling right now? Eteri is 2 for 3, and Trusova's turn is coming up. I can't imagine that sort of pressure. I anticipate that she may play it safe, or safer, I suspect that we will see the quads and 3A's in the final.
Trusova will do at least 3 quads. You can book it!

She definitely doesn't want to give Anna the chance to be the first to land 4Lutz so a 4Lutz attempt is essentially guaranteed.

Remember this is a girl who during grand prix finals ex decided that it'd be a good time to attempt quads.

I am agree with the above - Trusova doesn't afraid anything and she will be jumping at least three quads even in her first JGP event for sure. And why she should be afraid and feeling pressure? She is seeng her rivals everyday in training anyway. I bet it's them who feels pressure from Trusova everyday - and not other way around  Also I have a feeling that she doesn't even care about winning as much as jumping quads anyway :dev3:

It seems so. She‘s training with Panova who is Kanysheva‘s coach. Yesterday during SP Kanysheva was sitting behind me and clutching a pink plush turtle while anxiously watching Anna‘s skate and cheering her on. She had already finished while Anna was skating in a later group. After Anna finished she immediately left. Probably to congratulate her and talk to her. They really seem to be supportive of each other. I would have loved to see them both on the podium. That damned singled axel. :(

If they're doing 9/5 then neither of them may get a second. Only 2 non-Eteri girls will get a spot and there is Tarusina, Kanysheva, Sinitsyna, Tarakanova, Vasilieva, and probably Gubanova in the mix. It'll likely look something like this:

Shcherbakova, Tarusina
Kostornaia, Kanysheva
Trusova, Sinitsyna
Shcherbakova, Tarakanova
Kostornaia, Vasilieva
Trusova, Gubanova
2 highest scoring 2nd place finishers/non-Eteri girls

If I had to take a guess I'd say Tarakanova and Gubanova are the most likely, but they're both wild cards especially with Gubanova's boot issues. Anything could happen and Kanysheva has certainly positioned herself well. I can see how Vasilieva has just as much potential as the girls who got spots before her, I just don't think its too much to ask that the skaters be required to skate at least one clean competition before securing a spot in a field this deep. I'd prioritize a 2nd place finisher's second spot before hers.

I don't trust Gubanova right now. I hope they ask her to skate for them before giving her a spot. Everyone else had to test and so should she.

Still pretty bitter about all of this but I believe some of you may be right that there is something political going on and RusFed doesn't want to hog all the spots in the final. Frustrating but what can you do.

"As Grand Prix is a commercial foundation, their rules say that it's forbidden to have 6 persons of the same country in the final. So even if 6 first places are Russians, they will not take the sixth one but the next one from a different country."

It's from one of youtube comments. I don't know is it true or not though. Maybe it's good idea to check these GP rules whenever they may be and see for yourself 0_0

I think her eyes are green.

I think so, too.

Agreed. Sasha isn‘t jumping quads solely for winning (even though that plays a role, too, obviously) but because she simply enjoys jumping them. I feel like she‘s somebody who thrives from the challenge and after seeing her teammates win, she‘ll only be more hungry to prove herself. Maybe she won‘t jump 4S yet. I can totally imagine her jumping 4Lz and 4T in combo and afterwards stating in an interview: “Well, I played it safe by not including quad salchow. I will train it more to add it in competition later...“ and Ted will sit there like: “Okay. Wow. What do you say about this?“

I think such things do not bother Trusova. She lives in her own quad world.:confused2:

Pffffft that is not an official rule, that is a conspiracy theory. Where is even the idea that RusFed is doing 9/5 coming from? As far as I can see, there's nothing concrete about this besides the masses of talented ladies who all deserve a go. But that was the same for every other year, and last year the main reason for things turning out as they did was because it wouldn't have been fair to not have given Kostornaia 2 assignments & two former JGPF qualifiers (who should have been reliable podium contenders) had unexpectedly bad skates (for Alisa, it was the start of a trend, for Anastasia it was her only bad performance of the season). If it does end up like that again, it just proves no one can 100% predict anything. And that in itself is something important to keep in mind.

Gubanova has a spot before the injury, if she recover from that it is likely to recover a spot as well.
We actually know 8 skaters with a spot, beside her, so...

It is not sure at all, Vasilieva or Tarakanova may lose theirs, but it is certainly a possibility.

They also seem to not trying to take all the final spots on pairs, assuming the entries don't change.

8 girls have already been assigned, so right now we are already at 8/6. Gubanova had a spot and was pulled due to her boot issues. Buianova said in an interview that Gubanova would try to do a later JGP. I might be taking that statement out of context but it seems to me that if Gubanova decides she is ready the Fed will give her a spot, making it 9/5.

I'd like to hope that the reason for 9/5 last year was due to the combination of two promising skaters coming out of nowhere at the last second and three of their initial choices falling below 2nd and losing a chance at the final, but things seem to be headed in that direction this year as well so who knows.

Ahh I had forgotten about this. It makes sense that she and Vasilieva would be required to skate one more time to secure a spot. When is this event they are doing?

This week! September 3-6. Much of the competition has withdrawn -- Tarakanova, Sinitsyna, Kanysheva, Ryabova, and Kromykh. I don't think Tarakanova will get her JGP if she doesn't skate. If Gubanova skates well and wins, she would probably get that spot.

I want to make sure I'm understanding you correctly....Tarakanova was initially competing but she has withdrawn? Gubanova and Vasilieva are scheduled to compete there?

About Tarakanova - yes, she was initially scheduled.
Gubanova was added recently.
Vasilieva was never on the list and will not be there. I find it odd since her JGP isn't until week 5, but maybe she just needs more time to polish her programs. She did come to test skates.

Seems Angels confirmed in instagram Anastasia will compete in Canada.

alexeyonikaHello, tell Nastya Tarakanova to Canada for the Grand Prix Stage will go?

angelsofplushenko @ alexeyonika yes.

In a previous post you noted that substitutions can be made up until the draw. But that is only theoretically - practically the skaters actually need to physically be flown there, and, in the case of Canada, may have to apply for a visa in good time. I don't know, of course, how long it may take, but I would suppose that preparations would need to be in place well before they would have been had the competition been in Europe.

Thanks for your help. So really we only have 6 guaranteed an initial spot and 3 on the bubble. It could be a few as 7 getting one spot or as many as 9. Withdrawing will not be favorable for Tarakanova. I enjoy her skating and hope she is well. I would like to see her get a spot. Gubanova's performance will be interesting.
