2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Plus Evgenia had a fall at Nepela, plus she had that ugly dress.

You know what would be an interesting experiment (but it would never work soo..) if you could have someone skate the exact same performance (same jumps and mistakes) in a ugly dress, a neutral dress and a really beautiful dress and see if it had any effect on the PCS marks. I bet it does.

I liked Alina's dresses this weekend. I liked her tutus last year (the swan lake one was the better of the two to me). Her competition dresses have been very nice so far. I hope Evgenia gets new dresses for the short and long. Maybe the nice Russian lady who made her Anna Karenina dresses can help out (Olga?)

Maybe by your standards.....

She didn't receive 160 for example, as before.... If so, she would have won... or even 158 would have been enough.

:palmf::palmf:I can't believe people are STILL trying to rehash this. Evgenia DID get awarded for her Olympics performance. She scored much higher than she was scored at Euros, reflecting both the technical improvement and performance improvement at Olys. In order for her to have scored 160 with her tech content, judges would've had to lose their minds with GOE like they did at Japan Open, and that kind of scoring simply is not realistic. People who keep claiming that she could've/should've scored 160 at the Olympics simply because she's gotten that score once before in an exhibition-level "competition" is ridiculous. The score she received for the Oly FS is already the realistic maximum that a program with that tech content can receive (unless you're Kostner).

I will continue to defend that any perceived excess in Alina's PCS scoring was more than sufficiently compensated for by the fact that she got lower GOE for almost every single element than Evgenia. If you watch the comparison videos of their programs side by side, we can spend another 6 months arguing Alina should've gotten higher GOE for every single element.

In the end, you can do your absolute best and it simply won't be enough, and that's life.

Alina was amazing today, keeping her form. Alina was never as consistent as Evgenia was at Evgenia's peak though. But Evgenia on the other hand has completely lost her style and elements. It is hard to imagine that evgenia is so far away from Alina.

I think that's pretty harsh against Evgenia, I feel it's important to point out that Evgenia is doing programs completely opposite in style of what she's done her entire career while Alina is doing programs that are extremely similar in style to her programs from last season.

Who said Daniil couldn't choreograph? That EX was his best work :yahoo:

He has skills with choreographing, I just want someone else to have control over the music editor.

I think that's easy. They signed a consent a gave it to Alina. No one bothered to keep track of its expiration date. Of course, they could not fix it immediately - it took time to renew it and DHL to Moscow. But it does not take a week as someone suggested.

Bottom line, whoever is responsible for Alina's travel documents needs to be fired or some thing - from what's been said this is her second time having an issue with her travel documents going to a competition, they were very lucky that this was a meaningless competition for her, next time it could be hindering her ability to get to a major competition.

I cannot believe somebody would let it happened for SECOND time really.

Lots of people messed up on their travel documents at a point.... but.... common sense would be to octuple check everything in the future. I don't even blame Alina, she probably thought that with such a big team behind her, everything will be okay. I hope she makes sure everything is okay in a future... because apparently, people cannot be counted on.

hmmm..the "skating skills" theme is here again... I can't see why some posters say she has weak SS. She is fast, can turn, she has flow, etc, she has great spins, jumps and very difficult programs in general...I'm saying again the SS theme is used by those posters who don't like the actual skater...

Not true, I really like Evgeni, doesn’t change the fact that her skating skills as of now are weak.

Well it's a good wake-up call, and lucky that it happened now and not before a GP. I wonder if no one had realized they'd expired or bothered to check because she's been travelling overseas all summer for shows, press, etc. and hadn't had issues. The travel docs must've been issued last year sometime between July/August and late September.

honestly, i would not be surprised if skaters started to move to russia to train on the same rink with some of the girls

I thought the same thing today. But does Eteri have time for more students? Would have to be another Russian coach. I actually watched a video about an American ballet dancer who moved to Russia to train under the Bolshoi Ballet. She was the first I think. In one of the Skating Lesson episodes their guest coach felt that Americans were not progressing as much in figure skating because the parents get too involved and switch coaches too hastily. Can you imagine a parent getting in Eteri's business?! LOL I don't thinks so!

Wasn't that a huge issue with Yulia's mother? She was a very pushy mother who kept trying to insert herself in Eteri's process and take over to the point she actually attempted to be hired by the federation as part of the coaching team? Like Eteri gets a lot of slack for Yulia's eating disorder but I'm pretty sure it was actually her mother who put her on it, Eteri just said she was impressed by the will power of it.

I didn't follow Yulia that closely. Very cool she is coaching now though!

I am not sure but yep, i keep seeing mentions about Yulia's mother being quite pushy, not just about controlling the training, but also about pressuring Yulia to win and so on.
It would actually make sense because i see how puberty + demanding coach + demanding mom who expect medals can lead to major issues.

When was the first time she had problems with her documents?

Eteri did an interview in 2014 where she states that she initiated getting Yulia's mother to go to the competitions in an official competition - though if someone could explain how/why that had to happen from a logistic standpoint, I mean at the time Yulia was a minor child and her mother had to get as a member of her team from the Fed/Sambo to go to the competitions?

Sorry for the double post, but...

Minsk-Ice Star Entries have been announced.

In juniors, there are Kamila Sultanmagomedova and Ulyana Zhukova (have we even seen her before? I don't remember her)
In seniors, there are Maria Mostenets and Viktoria Safonova.

Why is RusFed like this? Senior assignments should've been Gulaykova/Sakhanovich type skaters, good but not good enough for the GP. Junior assignments should've been Ksusha Sinitsyna / Nastya Kostyuk / Vika Vasilieva type skaters -- Ksusha and Vika to give them a better international outing, and Kostyuk because she's actually really good, just not usually clean.
Minsk Ice Star is not part of Challenger Series this season thus the score won't count for SB score, maybe thats why? Remaining Challenger post GP is Alpen Trophy, Tallin Trophy and Golden Spin Zagreb
