2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Ted talking about programs and feeling the music while playing the video of Anna pretty much says it all. What an artist. Most musical skater I’ve ever seen. She doesn’t need to have a story or play a character, she feels every note of the music.

They didn’t have a scoring system change when they began working under Orser. :bang:
Zagitova had 239.57 in 2017-18 and 238.43 in 2018-19.
Miyahara had 222.38 in 2017-18 and 219.71 in 2018-19.
Sakamoto had 214.21 in 2017-18 and 213.90 in 2018-19.
Tennel had 204.10 in 2017-18 and 206.41 in 2018-19.
Tursynbayeva had 200.98 in 2017-18 and 200.74 in 2018-19.
Then Medvedeva: 238.26 in 2017-18 and 204.89 in 2018-19.
I'm sorry, I was mistaken, it was a whole 30 points drop :bang: The scoring system change changed pretty much nothing for the ladies in terms of the overall numbers.

And Hanyu finished off the podium at Worlds his first season with Orser after taking bronze the year before.
2012 Worlds, Hanyu scored 38.68+38.39 in SP and 91.99+83.00 in FS. That was his best performance of the year.
2013 Worlds, Hanyu scored 36.12+40.82 in SP and 89.05+80.00 in FS. That was his second worst performance of the year.
Difference of 6 points, not of 35.

Hanyu's scores in 2011-12: 226-226-241-245-251
Hanyu's scores in 2012-13: 248-243-261-264-246-244
It obviously looks like his performance had a major drop once he moved to Orser. Lowest score of 243 vs 226 in 2011-12. Highest score of 264 vs 251 in 2011-12. Average of 251 vs 238 in 2011-12. :bang:

If you need more numbers, I can bring them.

By the way, Sofia Akatieva is now going for 3Lz-3Lo as well. It didn't happen in her free skate, but apparently she landed them well in warmup? So now there are 2 11-year-olds doing the hardest 3-3 out there :eeking: Samodelkina and Akatieva

Wow, that‘s crazy. I know Akatieva as the technical genius, I remember people talking about her having quad potential in here. I think I saw a program for her once, though. I don‘t exactly know if it was her but it was from a Russian skating show with kids (the one Medvedeva co-commentated) and it was a program about a mother bird dying and flying back to her kids or something? It was very beautiful and emotional. Does anyone know which program I’m talking about?

On another note: the two of them... are they eligible for 2022? Considering they‘re 11, it doesn‘t look like it...

Unfortunately, no. Samodelkina is senior eligible in 2022-2023, and Akatieva the year after :sad4:

Eteri interview with Ted out now. I got really emotional while watching it. ...... I'm not crying you are!

What a great interview! It was interesting to see Eteri open up so much and I appreciate seeing a bit of the many emotions she usually holds inside. I‘ll admit that I‘m not exactly a fan of her but even as someone who isn‘t, this was a very good and insightful interview. I like how she talks about making programs unique for each skater‘s personality, how they try to tell a story. That‘s what I’ve always loved about Camp Eteri. :)

It was hard to watch her tear up while talking about her mother. I didn‘t know her illness was that bad already during the Olympics. I think we could all feel her pain and it made me really sad. It‘s remarkable what she managed to do while facing such a truly awful and difficult time.

I'm somewhere between oh my God for Dasha and she's friends with them and knows them so it really shouldn't matter.

Yeah I think we're just being unnecessarily dramatic. They're professional. This shouldn't bother them.

Her body changed, and so her technique to accommodate.
But yes, I agree that she's probably homesick, even though she lives with her mom.

Agree and perhaps the jumping technique was actually contributing to or aggravating injuries.

As for the homesickness, that’s normal, especially for a girl her age. It’s like she’s been away at university for the semester and now is home for Christmas break. Even though she is living with her mom, ishe is still missing the familiarity of her hometown.

I think Zhenya may need to expand her social circle in Toronto to include more than her mom and a few Russian ex-pats. I was so happy when she posted that photo of herself out with other kids from the Cricket Club at a restaurant or mall in Toronto. I hope she does that more often.

She's good friends with Jason.

Regarding Russian nats, Russia's Channel One is kind enough to even show the women's practice session live. We're getting FULL coverage of the event. :)

I popped my head in here to see if Zhenya would show us her new short and BOY did she show us. Got a little too into it on the footwork but I think this program suits her SO much better than the old one (and I liked the old one!). I really think it's a good vehicle for her, thank you Misha for such intense and expressive choreo especially towards the end! It's the sort of drama that I think looks really good on Zhenya.

There are some rumors that Zagitova can withdraw from RusNat (due to injury). So far Kogan only hinted that not all participants arrived today and therefore some will be missing today's practice (most likely Zagitova). We will see if that true or not..
