2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

Congrats to Bradie and Mariah for such beautiful skates at Golden Spin! Bradie finished with 202.41 after falling and under-rotating her 3S whilst Mariah finished with 196.60 after doubling her 3Lz attempt. Mariah is such a wonderful and gifted skater, but she really needs to clean up her triple-triple in the short program and add in a triple-triple to her long program. Nationals is going to be a delight to watch if both Mariah and Bradie go clean.

just to note: Bradie did 3ltz-3loop and 3ltz-3t. Waiting on protocols but both looked clean. She was clean besides 3sal.

Congrats to both! Shame about the 2lutz from Mariah, just a moment of doubt.. think she can skate clean at nats!

Update:
Bradie's 3lutz-3loop called clean (12+ points), 2nd clean one of the season.

3ltz-3t called 3ltz<+3t. Also UR on 3f<+2t+2lo

I wouldn't read too much in Mariah beating Bradie on PCS. The former skated 33rd, while the latter performed 3rd, and skate order is hugely important when it comes to the second mark. Having said that, it's obviously a great sign for Mariah to win PCS in the event.

Guess what? Mariah received the highest PCS for the free skate, too! Bradie was second.

Mariah's PCS: 65.76
Bradie's PCS: 63.92

I haven't seen the programs yet, but that is a disappointingly low PCS score for Bradie. She can't afford to lose 10 points off the bat against the top women.

There isn't anything Bradie can do about how the judges mark PCS. This is one competition, and not all the judges on this particular panel are ISU level, which is required at the ISU Championship events. No need to raise an alarm.

It wasn't Bradie's best skate of her free--she fell on her last jump and I thought she just seemed tired by then and that was the main reason she fell. Her short was stronger. Mariah was lovely in both skates. She didn't have anyone with her in the K&C, but she did well on her own, so maybe she's finally getting the hang of just getting out there, doing your best and not stressing out too much about it.

I'd love to see two American women at Worlds where performance wasn't all about nerves.

I'm surprised she's not getting more inflation. We see other skaters with relatively limited skating/artistic ability receive quite a bit more inflation for showing the sort of technical prowess that Bradie has.

That said, going forward in her development, Bradie needs to either up her skating skills considerably or focus on her charisma/giving face. Either one will do. Skaters like Liza and Ashley considerably make up their lack of skating skills/transitions by being fun and charismatic and dramatic. Sell it! Or have the skating skills/flow of Kaori and Mai and Rika.

Her programs are much better than last season but it's still not enough for the judges to give her top 6 PCS. And I just don't think Bradie will ever be a "total package" skater - so she needs a strategy for developing PCS strengths going forward.

I think this weekend showed that the judges are shifting towards rewarding the full package skater by crowning Rika and Alena champs of their respective events when it would have been justified to give the second place, less artistic but good jumper the title. This doesn't help Bradie. I think she needs to work on skating skills over the summer with an ice dancer AND try for giving more face because the combo of both could do it because it's hard to master either one. If she's a bit better in both it would make a larger impact. She has already made huge strides compared to last season because she's a hardworker. She can do it. Go Bradie!

100% agree that Bradie should train with an ice dancer over the summer. Not just for skating skills, but overall more graceful arm/upper body movements. If Zoueva still had a stable in Detroit that would be perfect. Maybe Charlie White can help her?

What has Phillip Mills been up to? He likes to "transform" skaters and do a lot of individualized work with them. I know a few years ago he worked with Max Aaron, but I don't know what he's been doing since then.

I agree. I often wish Bradie could learn some things from Alissa Czisny. What a blend that would make.

Mariah didn’t have anyone in the KnC at Golden Spin? that makes me sad:sad21: 3/4 of TCC was at the GPF/JGPF, but they still managed to send someone with Jason. Couldn’t Derrick Delmore or *someone* have gone?

Oh well, Congrats to her and to Bradie for their medals!:hap10:

I would have gone and been there for Mariah :)

Bradie's PCS are fair. It's just that some skaters are so incredibly overscored. I don't like the overscoring of some others so I'm not going say that Bradie's should be higher, but they need to reign in some of the other top ladies' PCS.

I wonder if she said she was OK being by herself. I can't imagine that Raf would let her go it alone unless she said it was OK. Raf has a decent sized team and I bet they would have gone if asked. He only had Mariah and Nathan there this weekend right?

Raf had Mick Brezina and Nathan at GPF in Vancouver, so it's perfectly understandable why he wasn't in Zagreb. I just thought that Raf had more coaches on his team, and could have sent Team B over with Mariah:biggrin:

Although I think he should have taken @SamSkwantch up on his offer:agree:

Another Team Raf skater, Andrea Montesinos Cantu of Mexico, was at Golden Spin along with Mariah.

I do not know why a coach was not with Mariah (or Andrea?) in the Kiss and Cry.

But Derrick Delmore does not strike me as an obvious solution … unless I have missed something. Does Mariah actually have a working and/or personal relationship with him??

If not, it would be a different type of situation from Derrick being in the Kiss and Cry with his close friend Adam.

In any case, congratulations to Mariah and Bradie.

I wonder if she said she was OK being by herself. ...

I wonder too. Not unthinkable to me.
