2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

I hope this gives Ting the confidence she needs to skate clean after a mistake in competition. She is our best hope to place top 5 at junior worlds.

i wonder why they didnt sent Starr to any CS after GP events, she need higher SB and more experience competing. Also i guess Ting might get both JWC/WC like Konstantinova this year.

What is happening with Starr? Is she a fulltime Senior now? I haven't heard much from her this year.

I think they would given Starr another CS is she hadn't gotten placed at SC.

I highly doubt Ting will go to both JW and Worlds. It's too much especially when spots are on the line.

Konstantinova wasn't originally assigned to both. She was an alternate and then Evgenia withdrew. I don't think it's beneficial for a skater to do both. It's really difficult to train two longs (One junior time length, one senior time length) and Konstantinova suffered at SR. worlds. Really struggled. I think USFSA should send her to one or the other. Depends on how Mariah and Bradie look.

Really? Wow.....I feel sorry for myself. :slink:

Don't be. You missed a giant outcry about her getting SC when other US skaters didn't get one spot and then the massive outcry over her bombing SA. She had a mini comeback at SC and the ire over her has reduced. She's now being ignored like all US skaters that fail to live up to people's expectations.

I rather have the OGM than consistency & longevity (unless you're talking about Kwan longevity).

Really? You’d rather be an Oksana, Tara, Sarah, Adelina etc than be a Kostner for example?

It depends on your priorities I guess but if you want to make skating your actual career & not just something you want to do as a kid and retire by 19, you can’t have it without longevity & consistency.

This is a toss up. I think I'd prefer the OGM than the longevity, although a career like Kwan's is appealing.

The OGM is not only the pinnacle of figure skating, but it's the pinnacle in the eyes of the sports world that tunes into figure skating every 4 years. I'm fairly certain many skaters with longevity who came up shy of an Olympic medal would trade a bunch of their World/other titles for an OGM (as in, would have performed better and earned an OGM at the times were a fave but didn't) in a heartbeat.

Well, skating isn't always a lifelong career, and certainly elite skating is not. Kostner and Kwan are extreme examples (especially Kostner) of longevity. You never know how long your career is going to be but if you get that Olympic and/or World title, you'll probably not regret having a longer career once you achieved the highest accolades. Of course, different skaters have different goals.

Wow, the judges really like Ting! I'm not mad about it because I like her as well but I'm shocked that she's getting such generous scores because skaters I like typically don't. Her jumps are really nice and she seems to be naturally musical, though a bit sloppy (which should improve with time). Hopefully she keeps working hard to stabilize her jumps and get more comfortable with her programs! It'd be interesting to see what USFS would do if Ting outscored Mariah at nationals.

I love ting. Which is a bad omen for skaters (but all my favorite Japanese ladies are doing okay <3 Kaori <3). She has innate musicality and performance qualities. She has wonderful jumps (although her check out is a bit slow) and spins and good skating skills. Id love for her to work on her knee bend more as well as control of her long limbs. I don’t want to put all my eggs in this basket as we typically do for most American women’s skaters but I think the future is bright!

Strike out Sotnikova from the list and my answer is yes.

I don't view competitive skating as a viable long term career, and given we are talking about competition only, then the OGM is the pinnacle of the competitive skating, no matter how people may want to downplay its importance bc their faves didn't earn one. History remembers OGMs and I rather not be remembered as a skater who had the long career and everything BUT the OGM.
