2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

:agree: But also: Ting's terrific SP has earned her an ISU Championship small bronze medal, which is an accomplishment unto itself.

Soooo happy for her. I got teary :sad4: (in a good way) for her during her performance.

Congratulations to Ting and to Hanna. :yay:

Agreed! that is quite an accomplishment. We haven't had 2 US ladies in the final group for WJC since 2014 or receive a small medal since 2013. In fact, the last two years, we didn't have a US lady at all in the final group!

The future is bright for the US ladies. (Ting especially is my favorite).

Will both Ting and Hanna go senior next year?

They were both lovely today. Congrats to them!

If Ting makes to the podium, I think she should. I think Hanna could benefit for one more year. She and Ting both made their Junior debut in the 2017 season.

I enjoyed Hanna more than Ting today. She is petite but very powerful in jumps. A little more speeds needs to be added too.

So what placements do the two US ladies have to have to get 3 spots for Jr Worlds and 2 spots for each JGP next season?

Congratulations to Ting and Hanna on two wonderful short programs at the Junior World Championships. Both ladies are exceptional talents and possess great technique, an attribute which will ensure longevity and success in the Senior ranks. Prayers extended to both Ting and Hanna for the long program.

Ting and Hanna's combined placement needs to be equal to or less than 13 to get 3 spots for Junior Worlds and 2 spots for each JGP next season.

I believe the two have slightly different criteria. :)

You are correct about the 3 spots at Junior Worlds but in order to get 2 spots for each JGP next season, one of our girls has to be in the top three countries (as measured by the highest ranked skater from each country). So, presently that would be Russia (Shcherbakova), USA (Cui), and Japan (Shiraiwa). I wouldn't be surprised if it stays that way, but you never know..

Thank you, I was not aware of the different criteria. :agree:

Is it broadcast anywhere?

If you have a membership to GS competition threads, there's a link in the Video thread to ISU recordings of all the Jr. World skates, and live streaming of tomorrow's events as well.

Just in case someone doesn't know, the membership is only $6.00 a year. It's a really good deal. :)

Her jumps are great but her basic skating needs work and she doesn’t really have any transistions. But, she is young and has time to learn. Hopefully, she will improve these aspects of her skating.

TBH her score would have been a little higher had Hanna not been injured in the fall. She did well here and might have been judged higher without that fall injury. Hope she can nail that freeskate as well tomorrow.

IMO, they should both stay junior another year. Hanna has basics to work on and Ting really needs to train her competition mind. I can't think of a reason why either of them should go senior next year.

I’m not sure that is her fault, her short program just isn’t very sophisticated. Might be more of an issue of not being able to afford the better choreographers.

I can, how about a lack of senior ladies for GP? Ting in particular could have an impact. I do expect Hannah to stay junior.

If Hannah or Ting or whoever wants to think Beijing they need to probably move to seniors next year. A year to feel and test the waters. Then a year before the olympics to give the hint you are ready for the US team and or medal then go for it.

I don’t think it is just a choreo problem. I agree the choreo isn’t good but good SS are recognizable even with bad choreo. She doesn’t have them. And, as the previous poster mentioned she needs to improve her levels. But, she is only 15. I hope she works on other aspects of her skating because her jumps are beautiful!
