2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I don't know how anyone can say with a straight face that Sasha was "overhyped." Did folks not see her FS runthrough that was filmed by Daniil just this March a week or two before Worlds was scheduled to take place? It would have been the highest scoring program in the history of Worlds!

The hype is real. Sasha simply didn't execute in some key moments this past season. It happens to the best skaters. But we all know and continue to see what she's capable of.

And the hype is real with Aliona and Anya, too. And Kamila, Veronika, and Sofya. These are all incredible skaters. No need to denigrate them or overreact as their careers evolve. No career is without its twist and turns.

Sic transit gloria mundi. Will this continue to be true next season?

That all depends on how the judges are feeling about their favourite club after all the dust settles I guess. Exciting to think other skaters/clubs might get a look in or fair scoring. The possibilities are endless!

If we judge by runthroughs alone, Gracie Gold would be a World Champion by now.

It is very hard to say what will happen in next season, it's not even decided if GP event will be held at all.

I think not less important question is will anybody, ever repeat it?

Yes, it does - it's like replacing the best hunting rifle with a start pistol.

Your point would transfer to replacing the best figure skating boots with beginner boots, nothing else.
We are talking about coach ("teacher") and individual practice time

I love Gracie Gold probably more than most other skaters, but don’t compare the two. I say this with the most love I can for Gracie but one is making history whilst the other is trying to regain her competitiveness. These two things are not alike. Don’t play down Sasha’s talent or hard work just because she no longer represents your club of choice. That’s not fair.

Well, then consider it like having unlimited practice time with a "start pistol" vs less time with the best rifle - no difference, pistol looses :)

In that example both Eteri and hunting riffle are instruments helping skater/hunter achieving their aim, which are being replaced by much worse models.

Point is very simple, if one of the most important parts of success in your job is X, and you are replacing X with Y,while X is the best in the world and Y is less known and less successful, You better be sure that X was the real reason of your problems, overwise if X was working just fine you are worsening your chances, badly.

and If you were doing amazingly with X, chances are very high that X wasn't your problem and replacing it with Y is bad idea.

People, especially at Russian language segment of Internet, are going as far as saying that Sasha learned quads herself and Eteri had no part in Her success, yeah, well, we will see.

I have always considered Trusova hyped to the heavens and a one trick (okay maybe five trick) pony.

I think what the poster was trying to say or at least my interpretation - if medals were given out for what's done in practice then the 'medalists' that are listed in the history books would probably be a lot different. Trusova is an amazing talent and she's proven that on the Junior level in competition, that led to very high expectations for what she would do in the senior ranks in competition - at this point she hasn't delivered on that, the reason behind why that has happened we can only make an assumption that it's something psychological that happens when its competition time since they've provided visual evidence that she can physically do the 5 quad program in practice. I hope her new environment is able to help her overcome what's preventing her from doing in competition what she's capable of doing in practice.

I get that. But Gracie really isn’t capable at this point whilst Sasha is because we can actually see her land them in competition, just not the full layout yet. :)

I guess her problem isn't Eteri, but not *enough* Eteri time so to say. And since more Eteri time wasn't possible, she tried to find something close to that (i.e. Sergei + individual training time) Of course, that's all speculation by now. But I think that could potentially be the motivation
