2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

:laugh2:

Maybe it sounded better in Russian? Reading TAT's comments when she is trying to convey happiness for Alina is always good for :rofl2:
My only guess is maybe her actual tone conveyed it more as a joke, but when you’re reading it, the phrase comes completely out of nowhere, and just sounds a bit strange.
Don’t know... it was an odd turn of phrase.:)

She always gives us something. Last season we had some fun with - "Are Alina's eyes burning yet?" This season someone much more clever than me will come up with something jail related.

Thanks, TAT. It's a small gift, but it's yours.

Alexz, where are you from? I thought you were Russian, that's why I'm asking.
Im not sure why do you want to make it personal! =) And why we are talking about me in this thread. Hm...

I'm actually a fun-loving snarky Califonian Jew. English is not my native language if that's what you are asking.

There are long time tentions between Japan and Russia over some territory and TAT is too close to politicals in Russia.
No. She is not too close to anyone meaningful now. She is just one of those old guards among Moscow aging post-Soviet intelligenciya. There are many other "new sheriffs in town" now. ;) She probably can only have an ear of Minister of Defense once in a blue moon, but what she can possibly tell/do other than ask him for a small statue of his father in front of that old CSKA ice rink? Tat never was seen among any politicians lately. Let's not over-inflate here figure nowadays. Tamara Rodnina and few other retired figure skaters on another hand are doing real job inside the power there. TAT is more like that Valentina Rodionenko person in gymnastics now.

Ugh, sorry but no matter how funny it sounded in Russian, it sounds like deliberate shade to Alina. Whatever, I’m sure Alina has better things to focus on.

I'm sure Alina remains "unbothered". :cool14: She is much to busy going on Japanese TV shows with extremely strange mascots and negotiating a comfortable flight to Japan for Masaru in business class. :yes2: I just couldn't help but find it funny.

As for CSKA, they can poach Eteri's skaters easily (and frankly it's understandable why they do it: you want to pick from the very best) by guaranteeing more funding, less competition inside the rink, all the specialists are there for you,...

But to be fair now in ladies we're seeing more competition: you have to think that at World Team Trophy there were no Tutberidze skaters and Russian Ladies still did very well with Tuktamysheva and Samodurova.

Nope. CSKA cant really poach anyone from Eteri now. There is nothing CSKA can offer now. I can't see anyone from Eteri's group (3A girls and Alina especially) wanting to join CSKA club.

Funding? Eteri group has whatever they desire now. Most of the Eteri skaters are coming from a rather well-off families, so they don't really need those military salaries, ranks and military pensions or cozy setups after professional sport career which CSKA usually likes to seduce with. A lot of things simply are not the same like they were back in Soviet times. This forum rather often doesn't really receive all the information in full. Just some random translated snippets of random interviews. There are tons of true stories and interviews of ex-CSKA athletes from then and now (including those famous hockey players), and there are number of interviews by many parents of Eteri's skaters too. Easily googleable and translatable. BTW, no reason of gossiping accusations. It is all public and open information. :) Facts.

Specialists? Eteri has her team in spades. Why in a world any Eteri's skater would need anything elsewhere? They are winning. If it ain't broken dont fix it. Again, their coaches are good, but nothing outstanding in CSKA in terms of specialists now. They actually kicked out a strong coach Inna Goncharenko recently and poached all her students, including Radionova. How did that work out for her after switching to Buyanova after 2015-2016 season? Facts.

Less competition in CSKA? How's that working out for them now? How did that work out for Tsurskaya, Sotnikova, Gubanova and Nugumanova? These are all amazingly talented skaters ended up with no good future perspectives for their skating careers. They did not receive good choreography and programs, did not progressed in their artistry much, naver got stability in their jumps. Why would any Eteri's skater want to switch to CSKA and to follow their career path? Buyanova failed to produce any meaningful results in the recent 5 years while having all that funding you just told us. Facts.

Many athletes would dream to get into an elite group with other strong skaters. Many athletes are looking for a group with strong skaters (as a matter of facts - Shoma Uno for instance, according to his own words he is looking for a training group comparable to his level, he didn't went to CSKA 'for less competion'). You get better by training with a stronger skaters.

No, thank you. 3A, Alina, KamiVali, Usacheva, Akatyeva and the rest should stay right there where they are. Some people are mocking CSKA as a "graveyard for talents" lately. :) And for a good reason. Sadly.

Is there a list yet of the participants for junior test skates?

I would assume all the girls on the JGP sub list would be invited + up to 3 more for 12 total (2 groups of 6). Perhaps Safonova will finally stop being overlooked and have a chance to prove herself? I also wonder if anyone from SPB/other regions will be invited, because as of right now everyone on the JGP sub list is Moscow.

Maybe due to high competition there will be more than 12? Either way we will find out soon.

I was just surprised not to see Gubanova on the list. She received a JGP last year but had to withdraw. Maybe the Fed isn’t sure that she can be prepared given her most recent change in coaching and the drama with all of that but hopefully they will allow her to test if she wants.

I feel like Safonova and Kadyrova with her quad should also be given a chance.

This is exactly 12 so maybe it will happen

Valieva
Kanysheva
Tarakanova
Tarusina
Sinitsyna
Vasilieva
Usacheva
Khromykh
Frolova
Gubanova
Safonova
Kadyrova

I just realized that 5 of those 12 (and I am not counting Gubanova) will probably qualify to JGPF meaning they will qualify for Senior RusNats. That means only THREE spots left to fill by the Russian Cup. RusFed really need to add another group at RusNats for Ladies.
In Gubanova's case I think her game plan right now is not to do JGP but doing Challengers instead and maybe get a GP if anyone of the other 10 WD.

Shade? No-no-no. TAT was happy for Zagitova; she can't be bothered to call her by her name, Alina, for the last 2 years, but still, she was happy - only TAT can express her happiness with so much hatred, if it's Alina she's happy for, that is.

I was thinking something similar but didn't want to say it. I wish you were wrong though.
