2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Omg, Orlov, seriously....
You’re making too much out of one video. None of us was there to know what exactly happened, let’s not make it into another soap opera.

No, I won’t buy it - it's not "entry", it's transition. Not bad, btw

By the way, let's talk about her PCS. Can she be offended that she was given small PCS? I don't think so - she has a fifth PCS in this season! (Medvedeva - 35.60, Kostornaya - 34.14, Miahara - 33.96, Kihira - 33.64, Tuktamysheva - 32.94). Is it small to her? Maybe there was no increase of PCS after returning to the old choreography? No, it was - in Lombardiya was 31.76.

She really thinks that international judges will give 36.5 PCS as the St. Petersburg judges gave? She has an average SS, she hasn't good spins, and it’s important - good spins is a powerful expression tool.

So what did she dislike about her total score? I think there was no objective reason for her strange reaction in K&C.

And this Liza Tuks case (and a lesser extent, Sasha Trusova) is a good example to reflect how PCS scoring is being captured. The overall score of the 5 components tend to be all bunched in a narrow, similar range. In the case of Tuks, to me, it is obvious that she has more than decent PE/IN and has upped her CO. Where she is noticeably weak is in SS and TR. Trusova conversely has more than decent SS and TR but weaker in the IN and PE. Yet the PCS does not really reflect that clearly. Not that many skaters have the all round PCS strengths like say Alyona or Satoko. If Liza consistently gets PE/IN in the high 8s and dinged on the SS (e.g. low 7s) and TR (mid 7s), it will be much clearer feedback to her team from the judges on what she really needs to work harder on.

I cant with this Liza bashing. Just because she is not saying to everything yes yes yes. Pointing out 0 Goe for her lutz was right. She needs to fight for herself, RusaFed won't do any politicking for her that very clear.

That's not the problem. But OK, enough of this.

Rather in the nature of some of the humans. As I've already said, just compare such behaviour with Alina. She can behave like an adult with dignity. Not only when it doesn't matter who had higher score like at JO, but also when she was beaten last season sometimes, you've never seen something like that from her. And from other Eteri's girls as well, you can see that they all show respect towards their competitors. Also japanese ladies are always very appreciative and warm towards others. I understand some frustration from Liza's side, that's not the reason why to behave like an old hand towards a rookie.

Behave with dignity? You can say from one video that Liza is not acting like an adult with dignity? Okay, then. Good for you. But please don‘t be surprised when other people don‘t agree with that.

Seriously, people are reading way too much into this. Liza is older, she has friends she doesn‘t get to see often, naturally she will spend time with them. It‘s not her responsibility to babysit Aliona and as a teenager, I do think Aliona would be offended by that suggestion. She wasn‘t mean, she congratulated Aliona, what‘s the problem? I disagree with some of her behavior in the past days (and I’ve said so already) but to call her an adult without dignity is going way too far and is uncalled for. Liza did make some mistakes but they’re still rather mild and some of the accusations here are borderline ridiculous and childish. It always surprises me how people can judge the character of people so much from just one small video.

I am not asking your "other people" for approving my conclusions. I don't need that to make my own. The only think I am surprised is that you think that I could be surpised ;)

Returning the thread to skating...
Who else thinks 3A is going to go down as a historic trio?
Friends and rivals training at the same rink. All three are so different and have their own strengths, yet always wanting to up one another.
Also, the confidence they have is simply mind blowing, no nerves going into the competition.

Russian media will definitely enjoy pitting them against one another, that’s for sure. But nevertheless I think these girls are quite unique, it’s incredible that they’re all there at the same time.

Yellow pages media pitting them against each other? First they should try to divide them, drive them apart! Not likely to happen this season, with so many events still to come.

Given #TeamTurberidzeForProgress' coherence I don't see this happening. The trainers present a united front, the skaters likewise. They stay well clear of any media not trustworthy and so far the skaters behaved admirably in their dealings with TV and press. No doubt FFKKR's press attache Olga Yermolina and her staff guide them at domestic events with live TV coverage, and when abroad I can imagine Dudakov, Gleikhengauz etc watching over their charges like a hawk until the event is over and everybody can relax, do some shopping and sightseeing inconspicuously.

But those yellow pages need to be filled, so they'll start 'inventing' news, taking any morsel of social media or whatever. I think one can expect even less IG live and postings, just to minimise exposure and threat.

“When those others will say that and primarily when their gratitude and respect will be incessantly and repeatedly challenged by persons similar to our madison, then I will certainly appreciate your point as it deserves.“

I‘m quoting you here from a few days back. What you‘re doing to Liza (insinuating her character is lacking or she‘s acting without dignity) based on just a small video might not be the exact same but it is similar enough. So, I did think you‘d act differently after that bold statement you made. That is all. :agree:

As for Liza and Aliona: I‘d say the two of them are fine. I hope Liza prepares for Skate America and isn‘t discouraged by her two losses at her Challenger Events. If Anna‘s clean she would have to work on her spins, 3-3 combinations and step sequences in less than one week to catch up, so I think she‘s likely to leave with a silver again. But if Mishin and her got the message, then they‘ll have some time left for Cup of China and GPF. And Aliona... I‘ll just hope that she‘s healthy, that‘s all I want. She‘s amazing and people deserve to see her skating.

If you insist to continue it this way... :confused2:

Situation one: A person questions a character of a skater without a reason, without anything supporting her statement, without taking facts (actual quotes) disproving her claims into consideration etc., which this person does repeatedly and for a long time.

Situation two: A skater (in fact group of grown people) openly shows behaviour, that, in my opinion, does not show much respect to a competitor. Then I make a note or two about it. Which is not "challenging someone's character incessantly and repeatedly." Such statement is not equal to "no one can have a single objection towards a skater at any time". Also it's not calling for crusade, public shaming or anything else towards Liza. It's just comparison of the dignity that different people show at such occasions.

Not similar enough to me. Similar enough to you? OK, I can live with that.

To bring some delightful news to this chat, Elena Radionova was chosen to choreograph and lead the gala performance at the Denis Ten memorial. I can only imagine what an honour that must be. They couldn't have found somebody better for the job [emoji7]

I’m so happy to see Lena doing this. Her and Denis were great friends, I’m sure Denis’s mom asked Elena for that. Great honor and a new experience for her to work as a choreographer.

We already had this friends thing with Alina and Zhenya when it ws clear they are friendly but not friends.

I doubt 3A are bffs, they seem to be different personalities. Alina is quite introverted.

Who do you think will get the remaining Challenger spots? I think Stasya is very likely to get one. I don't know what to think of the chances of the likes of Nugymanova/Tarakanova/Gubanova/Sakhanovich/Gulyakova/Talalaikina/Leonova. Some of them may get a spot but not all (a pity).

Of course it's not necessary to be bestest friends, being friendly and showing respect to each other should be enough. Like I can't say I'm somehow a close friend with all the people at work, but we get along well with each other.

I think it's highly likely that Ksenia Tsibinova will get one. She won the first Group Stage and had a great score above 200.

And I certainly hope that Gubanova will get one, being in SB top 24 last year must count for something.

Yes, I suspect Konstantinova will get one too. And also Leonova and Gulyakova. And probably Sakhanovich.

And, at this point, all three have won their events. All three have had fantastic senior debuts. Any one of them is capable of beating the other two on any given day. It really is a unique situation.

This thread is so childish and ridiculous. Do we have any skating-related topics to talk about?

Please refrain from offending all the people that comment here because you don't agree with that one poster. Thank you. We, the others, that you unfairly called childish and ridiculous are expecting an apology ....and maybe you edit your comment. Have a nice day

Also on the subject of Liza-Tuk does Tuk. I pretty much love her for that. Somewhere on You Tube there is a documentary about her, and it pretty much breaks your heart. (I don't have the link, and I've never been able to find it again) She has really had some horrible luck in her life and career. I wish she would improve some of her skating skills, but I'm not sure that will happen. I like that she has a big ole personality, I think it will translate well for her future in the sport, especially after retirement.
