It’s harsh words to say Canadian’s Holidays. Hanyu and Zhenia both aged, they can’t be number one like before but still can be competitive.
You forget that Zhenia was standing on the podium at worlds last saison and nobody expected that turn of event so I don’t want to predict. Maybe there will be a surprising winner for next worlds or olympic.

I am absolutely fascinated with developing theories for the winner of the next Olympics.

My money is on Kamila Valieva. According to her age it will be before she hits puberty. She's got the jumps, grace and artistry to be the next superior prototype in skating (the ultimate balance between artistry and tech) and she'll be at the right age to get a full advantage if she stays healthy.

But what do you say if tomorrow Dasha will put on the Internet 3A and 4T? Or if Sasha will show 4Lz+4T in bonus in Moscow? Still a long time to wait. Only from Eteri there are 9 girls.

I am not a big Bradie fan. But I prefer Bradie Tennell to Tom Brady. According to the judge's she has improved a lot this season as has Mariah Bell. It's not really enough to get them to surpass 4A but they proved if you keep plugging along good things can happen. Which is why I want the Russian ladies C team to not give up. Or the Russian ladies B team for that matter. Liza is a perfect example of not giving up.

On a side note and this is for anyone with input. I still can't believe Liza did not make the 2018 Olympic team with her triple axel. What happened? if you see how she has skated the last year-and-a-half post-olympics it's much better than anything Maria produced. So what the heck happened to Liza that Olympic season? that was her golden opportunity to make the Olympic team with three spots open to the Russians.

I love Liza but even though she had the 3A...she only had one in the free skate and her jump layout was still weird and not maximized. Plus that year she was failing to get level 4’s on steps, spins, etc. Masha that year had a maximized jump layout and was getting the levels. Plus that silver at GPF pretty much shut down any room for conversation about her not making the Olympics team so long as she didn’t completely and totally bomb at Nationals. Liza definitely had an improvement that year but it just wasn’t enough.

There were some people predicting Maiia will not do well, Eteri will kick her out, etc. Well, I guess those can now think were those predictions typically go.
Good job Maiia, she’s amazing!

The question is if she can score 100+ without a fall? Never happened yet.

LOL... well, she's been doing these crazy layouts for a hot minute. She's capable of it, but let's remember most skaters, including the men, who don't even attempt 4 quads, let alone land 3 and fall on one as Trusova did at Skate Canada.

She also would have scored 100+ at Japan Open (where she didn't fall) had she done her usual 3Z+3L without a UR or hadn't turned out of her quad euler series.

I am so happy for Maiia. I really enjoy her skating. She looked heartbroken when she didn't do as well as she had hoped at her JGP events. I hope this will be the start of a more positive period for her.

I guess the downtime between her last JGP event and nationals ended up being a good thing. She was injured IIRC right? Now she has time to re solidify all her triples and work on quads. And honestly, I'm guessing they'll put this in her routine by JNats if its at all consistent. Then, if she can get the consistency she had around the time of the RCF last year back, she'll really throw wrench in the JWorlds team selection. And then the question will be whether Kanysheva is back and quad-ing by then? Will Usacheva have a quad? Will Ksenia be doing her long-rumored 3A by then? And of course there will be Akatieva at JNats throwing her quads and 3A to really shake things up. She could pull da 3A (like the girls) on the juniors by getting on the podium without being eligible for Junior Worlds.

So I just watched a new clip of Anna’s 4Lz!3T and to me it looks like she uses her arms a lot to get the rotation in. Same as Evgenia used to, but different from Alyona, Alina or Sasha. Is there a reason some Eteri girls jump this way and not others?

While Eteri takes the girls in quite early on, not all of them are with her starting from the day they put their skates on first time. Which means the girls all get different basic technique, depending on their first coach.
Changing a skater's technique is very hard and takes years, which make it not worth it if it works for a skater - many years thrown away, the technique may never really change anyways and so on.

As for "supposed"... Again, changing technique is nearly impossible. You can count successful technique change cases on the fingers of one hand.
Changing a skater's technique will likely just ruin in worst case and do not improve in best case whatever the skater has.

And no, I am not an adept of "ohh the technique is wrong, lets change it even if it ends the skater's career, or ruins the skater's chances to win at least something"

I've never thought that she wouldn't do well or that she doesn't deserve to be with Eteri.

But I do think she is the most vulnerable of the current crop of Eteri juniors, she is very talented but struggles with consistency and often makes mistakes.

The 4S in practice is great, but in competition is different. I really hope she nails it and also becomes more consistent.

She is amazing, you're right, but for whatever reason we haven't seen that in her results so far.

The nationality of the judges? Really doesn't mean anything...there is no American, Canadian or other nations you mentioned at CoC that can really challenge for the podium.

No doubt she plans to, will be hard to keep up with Kamila and Maiia (if she lands hers in competition) without upping her technical arsenal. She has good PCS but so do they.

And these 'changes' are probably best done when the skaters are still young, malleable and unformed, i.e. in school age kids, up to high school age. In adults it's much more difficult to 'unlearn' and 'relearn'.

AFAIK, Eteri Georgiyevna herself isn't very involved with the pre-novices and novices, let alone with the tiny tots that put their first blades to the ice. Only Shcherbakova and I believe Usachyova have been under Khrustalniy their whole careers, for they probably live in the Yasenovo district in the south of Moscow where Khrustalniy's rink is located?

It is rumored that in Crystal even the watchman can make 4T. But since at the moment < , so he does not put it on the Internet.

I hope Sinitsyna gets whatever issues out of her system here, rather than at a more prestigious competition. I think she's turning into a magnificent skater.

Sinitsyna, Usacheva, and Valieva are the Russian junior skaters I really enjoy watching these days. I am still rooting for Tarakanova, too, but my nerves are on edge every time she steps on the ice...
