2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I really have to agree. Last year when I first saw Maya I was like "How the heck did SHE get into Eteri's school????" I first thought it was Eteri's daughter before I learned Diana is now in ice dance. She has lovely arms that she's starting to know what to do with, but technically she just isn't there. And she's nowhere from a presentation sense either. I'm sure there are a hundred girls who would love to take her place in Eteri's school at the same or higher level than Maya.

With that mindset, Alina would still be falling on all her jumps without ever having been on the JGPs. She was far worse than Maya when Eteri took her. Coaches take students when the see the potential ie. they have to work to reach the potential. Not only girls who have already reached their potential are taken...

While the 3A certainly are very special, I think it's a bit unfair to compare the current girls to them.
I was :rolleye: when Ted kept saying Alexandra, Alena and Anna set up a very high standard in their school, but now I agree with him. Everybody: fans, commentators and experts got spoiled by one of the best crops in Russian figure skating history. 3A were, are and probably will be hard to catch in few years to come. There is Kamila, so ppl should be happy with that and cut the other girls some slack this year.

Alina's 2015/16 potential was much greater than Maya's present one. Yes, she was falling, but if you knew what are you looking for, the traces of excellence were already visible.

Disagree, i think when she skates clean she's great to watch and she can still recover from this, it's not that she's doomed by any means.

Also she was with Tsareva before, i'm happy she switched to Eteri.

Maybe someone can help me find the answer to the question - why don't the judges rate Camila's bilman and i-spin to the maximum? In my opinion they are perfect. Or is someone doing it even better? Or does she travel a lot? I do not see any errors.
But one judge rated 4T at +5. Handsome man.

a negative goe on one of her spins made me rise my eyebrows.

Certainly not now. Maybe one girl was doing it better in the past though (Yulia).

PS. I take my doubts back - it was perfect quad by Kamila. Just the camera angle was weird.

Almost perfect. I would have given it a 4, only because I think she landed on a flat instead of an edge.

I am a fan of Valieva's but there is no connection between her choreography/performance to the music at all... I also feel like her short was made much worse this year, but it was beautiful last year in shows/exhibitions.

after watching Valievas FS, her 4T has better prospects than her 3-3's.
She seems to double most her triple combinations, its technique issue and this will be prone to underrotations in the future. Why are her 3-3s so bad ? its the bread and butter in ladies if you want to reach at the top.

she seems not connected with the music (given since she was concentrating from her sp mistakes), and rushed. Hope she does better in her second event.

Her 3 lz always looks scary on the landing... I hope they rework it

If I was the rusfed and I had a less consistent skater that I wasn’t sure how she’d do, like Maya, I’d put her in easier event with a skater I knew would do well.

While two skaters that I knew were consistent and strong, it’d make sense to put them together in a harder event to see how they stack up against each other and against tougher competition.

The placements make sense to me and they maximize the whole Russian teams medal count possibilities. I don’t think Eteri favoritism is in play.

Sinitsyna and Tarakanova competing against each other and against Alysa Liu have less chances to qualify for JGPF than what they could have had with one spot here.

Although it has to be said Seoyeong Wi was very solid here, i like her technique.
