2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

It's interesting to read Alisa Lozko doesn't seem to appreciate nor had trained her spins too much. They were breathtaking to watch.
Also, prof. Mishin seems to be not as unblemished figure as he's been always pictured.

Good fan video on Eteri Tutberidze's:

I'm sad for Alisa. She has or had really good potential. they can't block her from leaving the country and skating for another country at some point can they?

It's hard to imagine the professor doing anything to harm the career of a kid.

Speaking about Mishin... an interview of Elizaveta's former coach.
http://izvestiaur.ru/sport/10036501.html
She says 'someone helped' Liza to make a decision to leave her.
Apparently, after winning a euro's medal, head of rusfed Gorshkov called her coach Svetlana from the airport to tell her that Liza will be trained only by Mishin from now on.
After this, she was fired from her coaching position in Glazov and was unemployed for some time.
Her friends helped her during this hard time and she managed to move abroad.

She says they thought that viewers 'might not understand' the initial music choice (Drumming Song) and they've decided to change it to Oblivion of Piazolla.
She says the choreo went perfectly with the new music and that they didn't change anything in the choreo (so it's just the music).
They kept 'the same old' style in her free, she feels comfortable with it and thinks since they're doing 2 3A in FS they shouldn't go for big changes.

The music change is so strange. Those two pieces have nothing in common, how did they manage to just substitute the music and keep the choreo?

Well, I can fully understand him being irritated watching exodus of St. Petersburg's skaters to Moscow, then his very own pupil, grabbing the phone, calling some Moscow fed and warning them to stop this, but she said it lasted long weeks and she almost started losing her hair out of stress, so...
80yo legend of sport should've recognized how the situation influences life of 15yo kid and let it go, unless he decided to crucify her as an example. I don't know, he looks very friendly and emotionally positive man in the interviews... I'm quite confused. :confused2:

People here are so quick to demonize other coaches for any perceived slight against their favorite skaters, but somehow Mishin is untouchable? Nobody is perfect and all sweetness and light all the time. Just because he looks like Yoda doesn't mean there isn't some Darth Vader in there. Anyone who has been around RusFed as long as he has probably is quite adept at pulling some strings when he feels like it. Also, it's very frustrating that he seems to never let his skaters develop artistically. So what if some people don't "understand" an out of the box music choice? Better than warhorse after warhorse with the barest bones choreo, season after season.

I don't think that "the talented skaters of Saint Petersburg are all moving to Moscow" is an excuse to prevent another coach from taking your former skater. It's one thing to reveal issues, like saying a skater is difficult to work with, didn't have a good work ethic. That's rude but also a coach's right (imo) to reveal what ended the coaching relationship and the issues with it. But to flat out try to prevent another coach from taking them (if I understand correctly?) is completely wrong.

The funny thing is that just two days ago I was watching the 2017 Russian Nationals (where 14 y/o Zagitova stole the show and from then on was considered Olympic Gold Medal co-favorite). I fell asleep but I noticed the final standings and Lozco was the first name (14th place) that I never heard of, and wondered why I didn't, since it was only two years ago. Mishin kind of ruined Nugumannova's career, so I can totally see him derailing Lozco's too. Mishin might be really old and the grand master behind Plushenko, but I think he needs to either hang up his skates or get with the program. Liza can land 3 3a's but her programs and skating skills that she demonstrates are not competitive with the top ladies, and it has nothing to do with Moscow vs SP. He's not coaching well for this system. Plushenko could get away with his bare bones programs, but Liza and Sofia will not.

Thing is, I don't think this exodus would've happened if the coaches in St. Petersburg were doing that great a job. No fixing what isn't broken, after all.
Something very interesting happens in my city regarding private high schools: there is always one "top" one everyone wants to go to, and whenever a new one opens (usually poaching the teachers from the previous top school), that one is considered the "top" one. So it is not unusual seeing entire classes of middle schoolers going to the same high. BUT, all those times it happened, the previous schools remained open and thriving. I attended the first "top" school. By the time I attended it, there was already a third "top" school, but I (and many other people) chose that one, because it was still very good.

It just doesn't seem St. Petersburg is very good anymore. People tend to look for change when what they have isn't good enough. So really, I wonder how much Mishin's skaters have ultimately failed because he didn't adapt his methods to the present, with the whole presentation aspect. There are too many fantastic Russian girls out there, good jump technique doesn't cut it anymore.

I just saw the video of Liza practicing her new SP and it basically looks like last year's SP with different music. It feels wrong that they're still trying to tack Shae-Lynn's name onto it.

Wow strong words Liam. Very strong.

The professor does look friendly. But its a brutal sport.

Amazing interview. I did not know Liza left her former coach like that.

Why, Liza... why did anyone think this was a good idea?

This is the Drumming Song. Needless to say, it's not very similar to Piazolla's Oblivion. And it's a really awesome energetic song, by the way... I was looking forward to her skating to it.

I wonder--maybe when she says choreo she is referring to transitions. Lots of skater do same/similar transitions in very different programs either into/out of jumps or into spins/in the choreo sequence. We'll see though.

Well, if she said that judges wouldn't understand, that could have been reasonable. But what kind of audience would like another tango piece after a whole season of tangos in both singles and dance instead of a modern piece not many skaters have skated to?

Thanks. We’ll see in a couple of days how Tarakanova is doing. And what #TeamPanova have been able to straighten out since Test Skates.
Anastasiya will very much want to prove herself.

One thing still wonders me, only the latest issue of FFKM’s Moskovskiy Figurist had the official confirmation of Tarakanova switching from Khrustalniy to Snow Leopards. No mention of any Plyushchenko’s Angels. Then Anastasiya’s plea for financial support and sponsors, a both gutsy and risky thing to do, but perhaps an indication of her strong and independent character?
It is all very confusing and I hope Anastasiya has been honest and fair. For a 15 y.o. she probably didn’t know all the details and how to conduct herself.
Hopefully everything has been sorted now she is with Snow Leopards.

My understanding is that since she moved after the official transfer window, officially she represented Sambo last season, even if she was with Plushy.
