2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Team Europe won JO? Is this the first? Looks like Sasha and Alina won it for them because they were in last place after the men, no? Looks like the Russian ladies (+Lilbet) are pulling in the prize money today.

63 in PCS seems to be very low for Sasha. If we notice that Anna had only 65 in Lombardia, it seems that the judges are not willing to raise their PCS score. I hope this is just temporal, iy would be quite frustrating if not. On the other hand, it would be nice if Sasha would break through some new barriers (like 100 in TES and let's say 170 in total) in an official ISU competition, like in the upcoming GP.

Was the fun competition judged at ISU level? When 4 quads don't bring the necessary rewards because the whole routine gets sloppy, choppy and rushed, we probably won't see it again in GP's etc.

Hopefully there will be protocols and some official analysis later.

No offense to the American team, but their ladies squad was never going to hold up against Alina and Trusova. As great as Mirai is, she's not even competing competitively right now - having her compete in a points accumulating competition against Trusova is just ... yeah. Now Bradie could have garnered enough points to get the Americans the victory, but it seems like she's not fully ready yet after her injury.

The Trusova-Rika-Alina rivalry will be crazy this season!

tbh, I think all the scores here have been conservative

By "male" account:
1. Nathan Chen (USA) - 189.83
2. Alexandra Trusova - 176,29
3.Alina Zagitova - 172.99
4. Shoma UNO (Japan) - 169.09

Can’t wait to see the videos! From what I saw in the replays, Sasha landed the quads but they were not the highest quality so she definitely lost a good amount of GOE points there vs Nepela. Foot down after the sal, forward on the 1st toe and turn out on the 2nd toe.

I’m also suspecting that PCS was lower because adding another quad with a long set up takes away from the choreo and transitions of the program. The integrity of the program was likely disrupted due to this change.

Her score will of course go up when she lands the quads up to her “usual” standard like test skates and Nepela, but from what I’ve seen, the only quad with a solid landing today was the lutz. That said, I have no doubt she will nail the quads next time. We consistently see her improve her quality and execution throughout the season so I expect to see better attempts at the new quad combo and quad sal next time.

As for US ladies, though Bradie is not my personal favorite, she was quite good and strong at the end of the last season, her potential is still high.

tbh, all I care about is how amazing Sasha and Alina were today! I simply can't wait to see the videos! Sasha is just doing so amazing with her quads. Last season she landed two max, but this season she's already gotten to 4! She had some messy landings, but thats ok because its just the Japan Open and she should have room to grow for the rest of the season! And apparently she finally landed that lutz-loop  Oh and a back-loaded quad. no biggie. And the 4S is back! And better than ever might I say. She is insane.

And Alina! To go clean in her debut is great! I'm really excited to see how everything looked, because to my knowledge we haven't seen any clips yet. But she truly is a queen! And she's shown here with her scores that she is going to be able to keep herself relevant despite not having a quad or 3A. I just hope that after all she has been through, that she is happy doing this. She really is a queen .

Anyways, I'm curious what both of them will do for Carnival on Ice, for the ex and for the encore. Will Alina do a new exhibition number? Or will she just do Me Voy? But if she does Me Voy, what would she do for the encore? Phantom? Carmen? Or maybe she'll bring back Survivor for the ex and do Me Voy as the encore. And maybe Sasha will bring back Unstoppable, and then do her short for the encore. Or the other way around or something. Or she might have Kill Bill somewhere in there. I doubt she'll have a new ex cuz she's only done Unstoppable a couple times, but we'll see I guess.
