2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Now Alina has both the freedom to be relaxed as she has already proved everyhting and the financial freedom. Her famous tutu was Medvedeva's old dress. Her Cleopatra's dress now is a piece of art. I cannot imagine how much it can cost but she can afford any dress now. I am so happy for her.

Is the cost covered by the Fed?
And yes, the freedom, but you know what? She is actually a fighter.

I don't think that Fed pays for dresses even Alina's. In Russia state finances in sport are allotted according to quite strict guidelines: salaries, stipends, tickets. Standard clothes like "Russia" jackets that they wear at K&C are also provided for free. With dresses it may be difficult even accounting wise because the cost is not known beforehand and this could be a serious issue.

I see, thanks for the info!

This is just early season speculation though - let's wait and see what unfolds :drama: I just want to see Kostornaia stand on the Worlds podium (and preferably gold).

I know I really want Alena to make the world team. Her main hope is that the judges will give her proper PCS and not hold her down like they did with Anna and Sasha. Alena is my favorite out of the 4A and I don't want her become discouraged if she doesn't make the world or european team.

The situation with the russian ladies this season is truely insane. They really need four or even five spots for it to be fair. They have the 2019 world gold medalist, the 2019 world bronze medalist, the 2019 junior world champion, the 2019 junior world silver medalist, the 2018 JGPF champion, the 2019 european champion, and the 2018 GPF silver medalist all fighting for three spots. There are so many good skaters that all deserve the opportunity to compete at worlds, but only three will be able to. I pity the whoever makes the decisions about who to send to worlds because this is going to be very hard to choose.

Wow sinitsyna she seems really in control of her skating - very impressive. I like the long program - contrast beteeen the more exotic tribal feel to the beginning before the finish of much tenser yet lyrical music. She’s really talented - great flow in and out of all her stuff - makes the transitions seem more fluid and less contrived. Really good.

Alina is what 17 now? Is she still growing much or is she mostly out of the woods now? I'm absolutely thrilled she seems to have made it past the toughest part of it.

All the females in my life were done growing by 17 years old. Alina is almost 17 and a half. So science would say she is done growing. Unless she starts eating pizza ice cream apple pies and cheesecake she's done growing. ;) Alina looks amazing and rather spectacular on the ice this season. She is so comfortable in her own skin on and off the ice. I expect another really good season from her. Even though she has done everything you can in the sport by the age of 16 I'm sure she wants to do so much more.

This coming season will be amazing with so many highs and lows joy and frustrations for all of us here. Fasten your seatbelts!

Among the food you list, it seems that she only really likes ice cream, so her job is not that hard, I guess.:)

I think that out of all Russian girls I have seen so far Alina improved the most. Her jumps are higher, more effortless and have better landings. Not to mention relaxed skating and a program that is probably the best that Daniil has ever created. She totally deserves the PCS gap between her and Trusova IMO. Scores at JO pretty much reflected what she showed on ice.

Yes i'm very happy with the improvements this season, last season there were several signs of issues that should have been addressed and i was very afraid Eteri and the team would have not bothered fixing because of the new girls to push.

I applaud at the direction they took both technically (not pushing it too hard but rather improving all the elements she already has) and artistically (best programs she has ever had both the short and the long).

I agree with the overall message. I just want to point out that I would be very surprised if it were about 3 rather than one spot. For me Trusova and Zagitova are off-limits no matter how they are going to skate and what scores and places they are going to have before the end of the year. The only scenario when they are not in the team is their serious sickness or injuries. Alina is the brand name, the body of work and 2 amazing performances this season. Sasha, well, Sasha is Sasha.

But the battle for the third spot is going to be insane. Tuktamysheva, Scherbakova, Medvedeva, Kostornaya - that's the short list. Only one will go.

Flying to Krasnoyarsk in the end of December is not the most lucrative thing. But I cannot miss it - may be the most intense competition in ladies' figure skating ever.

Zagitova left a scandalous number, Medvyedeva returned to Kostov. Our show in Asia

Trusova scared everyone with Norwegian classics.

Alina Zagitova, Aleksandra Trusova and Yevgeniya Medvyedeva performed in commercial tournaments in Asia this week. The Olympic champion skated perfectly in China, where she conducted her free program without errors (there was no short one). Alina became second in Japan. Resisingt Trusova, who jumps quad quads, is almost impossible.
Yevgeniya won the competition in Shanghai, gaining only 119.62 points for her free program (35 less than Alina in China), but due to her leadership after the short she was able to get ahead of Elisabet Tursynbayeva from Kazakhstan and Korean Lim Eun-su and achieve her first international victory after leaving Eteri Tutberidze.

Both tournaments were commercial. Their results were not taken into account for ISU ranking, and it was impossible to attaing a “personal best”. But the skaters made good money - Medvyedeva received $ 25 thousand; the European team, where Spaniard Javier Fernandez and Latvian Denis Vasilev performed together with Zagitova and Trusova, - $ 80 thousand. If you divide this amount equally, you get $ 20 thousand per person.

But another feature of Asian tournaments this week is the ability to break in their show numbers, new or those that have already become hits.

Bad Guy Zagitova

In the offseason, figure skating hasn't been boring. Well-known American choreographer Joe Joe Gomez accused Daniil Gleikhengauz of stealing her movements from a video for the song Billy Eilish' Bad guy. It was really very similar.

Daniil apologized, but left Zagitova's number. True, the movements still had to be changed. Now Alina no longer bites her jacket, but looks at her phone. At the end of the performance, the Olympic champion takes a selfie and throws the device away. Effectively and acutely socially.

"Cave of the Mountain King" Trusova

The new show number was presented by two-time world champion among juniors Aleksandra Trusova. The skater and her coaches chose compositions of the famous Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg.

Sasha began her performance with skating to the light Solveig’s Song, which gradually flowed into the legendary “In the Cave of the Mountain King” from the “Peer Gynt” suite by Henrik Ibsen. The music sounded intimidating. It seems that it is this music will play in the heads of the rivals when they look at the quadruple jumps performed by Trusova.

Beautiful Mess Medvyedeva

Like Alina, Yevgeniya showed a number that the fans have already seen. In the first half of last season, Medvyedeva skated under 'Beautiful Mess' of Bulgarian singer Kristina Kostova.

After that, the two-time world champion changed her demonstrations several times, but now she decided to return to Kostov’s music. He is her friend still.

“This dress is too short. Not for the Queen.” Not all fans appreciated the new outfit of Cleopatra by Zagitova

And Tarasova is delighted!

Today, Japan hosted the traditional Japan Open team show tournament, Alina Zagitova and Aleksandra Trusova, both pupils of Eteri Tutberidze played for the European team. After the men's performances, Europe was in third place, but thanks to the cool skating of the female Russians, the European team became the champion.

Competitions in Japan were the first of the season for Zagitova, today fans saw the full-fledged premiere of her “Cleopatra”. Fans were delighted with Alina’s new look: oriental makeup with long arrows, a black and gold dress with an open back and, as befits the empress, decorated with bright jewellery.

Although there were those who did not quite like the dress.

goldnzen: The dress is rustic, the skirt is not flying. Plain and very commonplace. Alina does not wear make up, rather, she is made up.

halyundr: I didn’t really like dress? Of course, Alina will transform any dress, but something in the dress is not right.

saiz: Many are delighted, but something is wrong to me ... Black, how come? Alina herself is beautiful, her smile and the sparkles in her eyes simply delight the soul. But of all the dresses, this is the first, which I don’t really like.

Vesna krasna: When skating, it seems that Alina’s skirt is too short. It would be better if it were slightly longer, to get rid of the feeling that she skates only in swimming trunks.

margaret.07.1: There is no Cleopatra from the East in it ... Beautiful, but not in this image.

Menhyn: Dress too short! Not for the queen, but like for a three-year-old girl.

But the honoured trainer of Russia Tat'yana Tarasova believes that those who did not like Alina's dress should look at their own.

Do the fans believe that Zagitova has a dress too revealing? She has an amazing dress, let them look at their own dresses. Are they designers? Or what? Each step is discussed, when people don't enjoy this, do they even know what they are looking for. Zagitova has a beautiful dress that makes her very attractive and sexy, stretches her, emphasizes her dignity.

The skating run itself was almost perfect: Alina received 154.41 points, which is only 6 points less than Trusova's performance with four quads. Due to her excellent PCS, Zagitova won over 11 points from Trusova. What do such high marks tell? The fact that Alina together with her coaching staff absolutely got into the image was appreciated by both judges and fans. The audience was delighted and applauded the Olympic champion for a long time.

LOL, TAT again as we know her best ;-)

Sasha really needs to work on that short program-it was very juniorish looking at the Japan Open exhibition. Hopefully Eteri will be on her back to clean up some of the bent up knees, slow spins, stuttering StepSeq etc.

So many skaters are opting for long skirts (even if sheer). I hate them. Alina has beautiful legs, and looks beautiful.

Inventing conflicts

After the pupils of Tutberidze won a brilliant victory at the Olympics and began to master the quadruple jumps, and the leadership of “Khrustalniy” in female single skating became huge and obvious, the figure-skating mafia faced the task of destroying it. On the one hand, there was endless persecution in the press, on the other hand, all kinds of support was given to every possible competitor. At first, Medvyedeva was intended in the role of a battering ram, and when she fell apart - they began to pin hopes on Kihira, but she failed the World Championships. Now all hopes are pinned on Alysa Liu, but she is still a junior and cannot please a senior ladies single skater with her unique jumps that take the concept of "underrotation" to a fundamentally new level. In general, there is no one to fight with the 'Tutberkas' now. And since the “Crystal” cannot be defeated from the outside, it must be destroyed from the inside. How? To initiate conflict of course. And the press is trying! Here are some titles of leading publications after Japan Open:

Gazeta.Ru: Trusova surpassed Zagitova in Japan

Fontanka.ru: 15-year-old figure skater Trusova defeats Olympic champion Zagitova at a tournament in Japan

Sport Express: Trusova continues to write history! She defeated Zagitova and brought Europe victory in Japan.

Championship.com: Trusova outran Zagitova following the free program at Japan Open

RBC: Skater Trusova ahead of Zagitova at a tournament in Japan

Just in case, let me remind you: Alina and Sasha, in principle, did not compete with each other in Japan. They played for one and the same team and brought victory to their team. But if confrontation needs to be invented, it will be invented.

Glory to the honest and free press!

Just a blog of course, and the press jumps from champion to champion like fleas from rat to rat. And lots of yellow pages press is more interested in scandal and controversy, real or invented, than in real in depth reporting on how, why and what it takes to excel in figure skating.

Russian media in its own style. They are looking for negative comments to ask the “expert” about them. And of course the negative about Alina. Probably there was nothing to complain about except the dress. But the dress is also amazing, as is Alina’s readiness.

But they do pay for rink and gym time, right? I'd assume they'd pay for other equipment for their athletes. Like pucks and hockey sticks? Would they pay for someone's new skates? I'd assume there is a budget for costumes, which is why Tarakanova maybe had better costumes in the past. Or maybe the team has a special fund for this from shows and other fundraising?

I just realised that Kseniia just beat Kamila in SP PB, and Alysa Liu in SP PB, FS PB and combined total PB here, so she could definitely contend for JGPF gold/silver along with Kamila and Alysa.
Junior Grand Prix final should be very very interesting and exciting. Some people think the Russian girls have been avoiding Alysa. But there will be a few Russians in the Grand Prix final who will have a go at Alysa. Needless to say this will be Alysa's toughest competition ever.
Oh my... don’t get me started on Tarakanova... :( her scores were a complete joke, 56 in components in both events :(
It is both unfair and unfortunate nuss. This crap happens to every Russian girl named Nastya. :(

Skates, warmers, shirts etc., thats probably paid at least partially. But as for the costume, I can imagine they pay just some basic contribution, but figure skating costumes are not a standardized uniform, every piece is an original and the price can be very various

Someone posted the preliminary Moscow entries for CoR stage 2 a while back but I can’t find it. Can someone post the link? Thanks!
