With the pole and harness in use every day on all skaters, the results of their collective efforts are just starting to emerge.

We can expect more triksels and quads over the season. Khrustalniy is currently lacking in 2005 born girls, with Kanysheva in unknown condition. Some strengthening of this y.o.b. is perhaps in order?

Maya Khromykh is the second of 2006 born girls with a quad, Maya will try to qualify for the FP in a few moments in 5th stage of Russian Cup, tomorrow perhaps she'll show her quad in competition?

For next year, only Adeliya Petrosyan is JGP eligible of their top 2007 born girls, so one can expect her tech content to be upgraded too, especially since she has already shown great progress compared to the average skater she was in Moskvich. Adeliya has artistry beyond measure, but her skills still need some improvement and her jumping some consolidation. Rozanov is busy with these aspects in the novices under his tutelage.

PS: in 5th stage of Russian Cup, Sof'ya Samodelkina in SP fell on her new triksel this time. So jumping triksels still isn't as easy as some make it appear ...

I assume you mean the 2nd close to downgrade? But like you said...it was close but not a downgrade and she got an UR called with almost -5 across the board despite no fall so it seems fair. With the first 3A in combination I really don't know if I'm missing something because it looked almost clean?? The Lutz, how do you see it with the angle provided by the feed? Her leg is in the process of rocking back when she's bringing her foot down but I had no ways of knowing the status of the edge myself. Maybe I'm not good at noticing.

We have to remember that Rika is moving out 3S to a single jump and replacing it with 2T-2Lo, so essentially removing a 3Lz for 2T-2Lo which is -3 points. Not to mention Aliona does 2 big combinations and a 3Lz with a bonus whilst Rika was scored UR for her 3F-3T. Also Aliona hit all her levels and has higher GoE. I agree Aliona's performance was more flat compared to the past, and Rika performed really well but adding 2 points to Rika's score, or even 3, wouldn't make her win the free skate.

The 3A is hard to be comfortable with, but Good for Trusova! Very excited for her.

The first 3A, watched frame by frame, was not UR at all.
I think many take as reference the curve trajectory of exit.
I seem vaguely to remember that the Magnus effect is, on the contrary, insufficient to cause a significant curvature of the trajectory in the case of a skater who rotates in flight ...

I bet Eteri lives for the one-ups-manship that goes on in her camp. Just when we all think Kostornaya might be able to overtake her, Trusova comes out with this. It's a coach's dream come true. I'm a big Kostornaya fan, so I'm a little bummed that she's once again behind if Trusova can land this in competition, but its difficult not to be impressed by Sasha's grit and athleticism.

Apologies, I meant the second 3A of course for the downgrade. She landed forward and opened up earlier to avoid a fall. Which was a clever call but the jump still lacked rotation significantly, imo. The first looked UR to me but I might be wrong about that, it was certainly very close. As for the lutz. I think a clean edge on the lutz is very noticeable, no matter the angle because of the counter rotation. Aliona‘s looked flat to me (like you said, I saw her rocking back. Not completely to make it e but enough to warrant a ! call) and has done so every event of the season so far. Not a flutz by any means! But !.

Just to clarify, my issue is not that Aliona won, I‘m very happy about that! She‘s one of my favourites after all and I do prefer her skating (and programs) to Rika‘s. But today I thought Rika skated better and should have had a narrow lead in the FS. I wouldn‘t have had Rika higher, I would have had Alina and Aliona lower (! calls for both, some UR calls and lower PCS) I‘m just not sure if scoring Aliona (and Sasha for that matter) so highly so soon into the season when they both haven‘t performed their best is such a good idea. They have lots of room to grow but their marks make it seem differently. Again, it‘s not that huge of an issue. I was (and am) just disappointed that something as simple as a letter from rusfed to the ISU could make the judges stop calling some skaters on their mistakes altogether. It just doesn’t sit right with me. The ! or UR calls wouldn‘t have changed a single thing other than scores. The placements were totally right, imo. But it would have shown that there indeed was an approach to fair scoring and judging for all. Which is not what happened. But I‘ll get over it soon, some things just aren’t going to change. After all, I still have Aliona‘s win to celebrate and that she qualified for the GPF in the top spot. :)

No doubt about that. Her drive, passion and determination rub off on her skaters too, the signs are unmistakable. And the skaters always talk with the greatest respect about this part of Eteri Georgiyevna's character and want to emulate it. Also in dealing with the media, staying in command, not to be distracted, forceful when necessary. Showing strong character both on and off the ice.

So who's next in the triksel line, Anna perhaps?

We must wait and see where Aleksandra's triksel will be put in her programs, for there are many possibilities. And how the entry and exits will be, for a simple triksel alone won't suffice, it has to have a proper entry and exit, 'Khrustalniy's Quality' obliges after all ...
 
Alyona is one of my absolute favorite skaters. Her 3A is one of the best in the buisness. I'm not really a fan of Trusova.... But I think her 3A might be better [emoji44]

I knew this was coming and I‘m not surprised at all about it. Well done to Sasha, what a brave girl. Unstoppable indeed. :)

I have to say that I‘m strangely relieved about it. At least I won‘t have to desperately hope Aliona can somehow beat her after this. The sport as well has now officially (if it hadn’t before already) changed. This is a new era of ladies skating. For better or for worse, everyone has to decide on their own. A ladies event like the men‘s (there’s a reason why I barely watch men anymore) is not for me personally, so I know that unless the rules change, I‘ll leave this sport with my favourites (Zhenya and Aliona) and save a lot of time and money in the process. I cannot lie, I‘m a bit sad about it all, figure skating, and especially the ladies event, has become a major part of my life. But the direction the sport is now heading into does not appeal to me on any level. What a day for those who enjoy skating that way, though! Sasha is admirable for her bravery, spirit and determination. She will win everything this season and in the future and it will be well deserved. I will not lose hope that maybe one day what I value in figure skating will be valued more again, but until then, kudos to Sasha! I‘ll try to ignore scores and placements as best as I can and just watch the skaters I love instead. But her incredible athleticism and mindset can and should certainly not be denied!

Aleksandra has mastered the technique, but now needs to fine tune it, get her power right, modulate her speed and angle of attack. The latter quite literally, since the jump has to find a place in her routines, where it is both comfortable to Aleksandra and rewarding in the tech and components scores.

It's good therefore she isn't a 12-13 year old jumping flea anymore, but a seasoned, experienced and hardened competitor.

PS> Some very nice skating has been and is being shown in Russian Cup right now, showing the figures skating in girls is in great upswing all over the huge expanse of Russia. Much of this is to the credit of #TeamTutberidzeForProgress.

Is it possible that this season she might just attempt it in the SP?
To try to keep pace with Aliona and Rika's scores.

I really can't see how she could squeeze much more into her LP jump-wise.
