2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

It is strange that they did not come all together. Are the trainers there?

Junior's competition starts tomorrow so it would have been difficult to arrive the same day. Probably they just needed to be separated to have more time to work for each group, juniors in Torino, seniors at Chrustalnyi.

I remember Alina also arrived late to Worlds and missed the first practice. I guess they like to maximalize training time at their home rink.
Others, like Rika arrive a few days before official practices everywhere. I guess it's just preference and what works for them the best.

Interesting starting line up. Alina starting last will probably mean she'll keep the highest pcs if she skates clean. It'll be interesting to see how judges will score the pcs of the 3a. Will Alexandra skating straight after Alena dent her pcs? How will the judges score Anna pcs after Alexandra given how they've been holding back on Anna pcs a lot compared to Alexandra.

i just hope Alena gets the PCS she deserves even though she skates first.

From an instagram fan page of Alena, it seems like the girls were planning on attending the practice today, but their flight was late. So they have not arrived yet. I don’t know if that is right, but that is kind of what it sounds like to me.

Meanwhile in Zagreb, it will probably be a Russian affair between four girls. Tuktamysheva and Samodurova for Russia, Safonova for Belarus and Ryabova for Azerbaijan.

My big hope is that people take a healthy attitude to competition and be careful what they say and how they say it. That last part directed to the Russian Fed which as late has come off as kind of abrasive... their spokeswoman recently double downed on nonsense(that I hope she didn't get from me) about a competitor from a country Russian skaters tour at. Alysia Liu with her jump content is just going to win some of the times. It's important to win sometimes and important to always be in the hunt, but winning every time (rightfully or wrongfully) may lead people to start questioning the sport.

I will say that (surprisingly and kind of weirdly) I saw very few Russians engaging in the pile on that led to the isufigureskating instagram accounting shutting down comments on one of their Alysia Liu posts. And I didn't agree with the "prerotation" criticism people harp on then, but she was treated a bit leniently technically there. Her practice jumps here all look good though.

It might be because the time difference between Moscow isn't that bad, compared to the USA and Japan. So they dont need to worry about jet lag and get there early.

Reading both Russian and English, I have to say that Russia has been quite respectful to Rika and Alyssa. That incompetent comment about Rika's Lutz has been an exception, not a rule. On the other hand, I regularly read how Russian skaters are overscored, have bad posture, poor choreography, cheated jump technique, short career, wrong diet, etc. Just trying to put things in perspective.

Those comments are indeed very silly on several levels but she is young. At least it is just her personal Instagram, not an interview with some sports journalists.
so true hippo. Nastys was only 15 then and thought she was saying something in a private conversation between her and her online friends. And she spoke those comments out of envy I have no doubt about that. Then some unscrupulous journalist dug up these comments 16 months later to cause harm to all involved. Harm was done so I hope that journalist is happy with himself.

Russia only sending two? I can see that because Russia as everyone knows lacks depth with the ladies. ;)

i hate to be that person because i LOVE kamila's skating, but i have doubts about her technique lasting. it's just so...wonky. her upper body goes so much earlier before her blades leave the ice, and she has to "re wind" her arms and upper body in between jumps in combos. it's very different from skaters like sasha, who are up-down-up in their combos. i would just hate to see her have issues down the road and have to re-work her jumps because every other part of her skating is exquisite.

Right? She uses too much arms for her jumps when you’re supposed to use your legs more. The results are jumps that look very laboured.
