2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I think most of you just prefer Russian skating style. While Alyssa has less quality for SS, she IMO has better IN and PE than any others in this field based on today’s skate.CO and TR are about equal for all.

IN is a difficult matter but Alysa's TR are nowhere near. I have no problem with her TES. UR or not 3A combo is a big deal. But her second mark is unfair vs. the Russians.

Alysa has difficult transitions throughout her whole program. In and out of her jumps as well as between elements.

IN and PE are so subjective and culture dependent, they should be weighed less in the PCS tally.

Plus, these can be "bought" and "traded" the easiest in plugging certain skaters and/or holding skaters back.

As long as there is a panel of international judges of different cultures and perspectives, they are perfectly capable of reaching a balanced score on IN and PE.

My main issue with Alysa is that she‘s painfully slow. The funny thing, though, is that while she skates small, her personality is so big that she seems to fill the arena nonetheless. I wouldn‘t give her as much in skating skills as Daria, Haein, Kamila and especially Kseniia but she‘s a lovely, energetic performer and her transitions are hard as well. She’s been working on the speed issue but she’s not there yet. I have not looked into her scores closely so can‘t comment on that but I find it a bit unfair to act as if she was skating an emotionless, empty program when that‘s not the case. Would I put her first in components? No way. But not last either. She‘s got her weaknesses but so do the Russians. And the PCS were very close overall.

Yes, sure, why not abandon PCS completely and make it a TES only event? With the way PCS is unjustifiably tied to technical prowess these days; it might actually not change much. But I know that for me (and I think for quite a lot who value exactly that artistic part in the sport) that would be the last straws of last straws. :noshake:

All PCS categories are subjective and culture dependant.

Even transitions are subjective; does more but poorly performed mean higher score? Or fewer well executed get rewarded? What’s more valuable a leg kick or a bunny hop? A three turn or Mohawk?? Rocker or twizzle?

Well in the case of Usacheva you get more and performed better in transitions. Her 3loop is worthy of a +5 also because of the steps going in.

So, if I'm not mistaken, Chris Howarth from British Eurosport will comment the senior events on YouTube!!!

Yes!!! He's the best FS commentator ever.

The short in Zagreb

1. Tuktamysheva 72.86 (1.0 deduction for late start !!)
2. Safonova 64.35
3. Schott 61.78
4. Samodurova 59.57 (>3T)
How does SS score so low in the freaking 50s?

Who replaced Stasya in this event?

How can they give Alysa Liu almost the same pcs as Daria and Kseniia? Their refinement in movements and interpretation is incomparable to just pointing and posing and giving the judges a big cheesy smile.
I can only surmise by your comment that Alysa is in great position to win jpgf gold. And Alysa Liu like a lot of the Russian girls has a beautiful smile. Not cheesy. Like one of these seasons experience judges is going to be influenced by a beautiful smile. ;)

Yep. When I saw the PCs for Ksenia and Haein I nearly fell of my chair...

I take it you were disappointed falling off your chair type of feeling. But the judges do that to beautiful skaters and it doesn't make sense. They did that to Nastya past few years.

He even came for the end of junior ladies to talk with Ted and they didn't spare superlatives for the ladies.

Yes, Chris said that watching the senior ladies practice was the BEST figure skating he has ever seen:luv17: And he has seen a lot, he was the guy that brought me into figure skating back in 1994!!

Interestingly, did Eteri give Yagudin permission to talk about Kamila’s leg fracture? Did Ted talk about this before skating?

Cannot wait to hear Chris' commentary! I always loved our British uncle. (I hope he also commentates Euros, 4CC and Worlds :))

Ted also mentioned that Kamila was injured and only has been training full time for a few weeks, but he did not mention what type of injury she had.

Hello, first time poster here! :) I've been reading this forum for about a year and half now and finally decided that I wanted to start sharing my opinions too!

So, my thoughts on our amazing junior ladies:

DARIA - Wow, she was just fabulous today! Not an edge out of place. I've always preferred her over Kamila and I so hope that this is her chance to prove herself. Hold it together in the free Dasha, you can do it!

KSENIIA - Her short program is a true masterpiece, it is exquisitely choreographed. That being said, she wasn't quite at her best today, a little tight on everything overall. Hoping for a solid free for her!

KAMILA - She's obviously incredible, but this program is a little too flail-y for my personal taste. I would love to see her hold her movements a little more, I really think that would take her to the next level performance-wise. A little off today and an uncharacteristic mistake on the loop, but I'm sure she'll come back in the free.

VIKTORIA - I will admit that I really haven't paid her much attention prior to this event. Her style of skating doesn't really appeal to me, but she did a great job today and should be very proud of herself!

Can't wait for the free and Senior short tomorrow!

I didn‘t know she had a leg fracture... I remember a few weeks ago there were some rumours about her being injured but users in here quickly denied that, showing pictures of her at the rink and in a theatre. She didn‘t appear to wear a cast. It‘s sad to hear, though. The toughest thing about watching juniors is seeing them when they visibly skate through pain. It‘s painful with the seniors as well, of course, but these girls are literally... well, calling them babies would be disrespectful given the bravery they show everyday but they‘re just so darn young. Watching Kamila today was hard. Poor girl, I hope she‘s alright now! She’s very brave, of course but I am worried. She’s just so young. Anyway, since she’s already here and I can’t change that, I’m hoping she has a great FS tomorrow, nabs that Silver and focuses on fully healing once she gets home.

As for Ted, Lunalovesskating already answered everything.
