2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Fabulous skating love all the girls ❤️ I'd love to know how the group dynamic works in Eteri's group, do they all fight for top spot & motivate themselves.... In the US I don't think a skating school would have so many top skaters, I don't think parents would want it...

All we can see from the interaction shows Eteri Georgiyevna isn't like some evil NTC of questionable methods and character that helped USA get gymnastics golds by setting the gymnasts up against each other and pretended never to want to know anything about a certain 'doctor'.

Nothing terrible. Practical. Kostornaya is a product of evolution. Slow and methodical.
Trusova is a child of revolution. She is the revolution. But we have here the fight between the reliability and the probability.

Alyiona slow and methodical? As the great John Patrick Mcenroe would scream "You cannot be serious!!"

no, but this is nationals with national scoring. happens the same with US nationals, and it's normal. Aliona's score would equate to probably 86 internationally, which is nothing crazy or outrageous. her best and the WR is 85.

After they gave Sasha 35, I knew we could expect some huge scores for Anna and Aliona. They needed to get higher than that to have the gap they get internationally. This is what happened. It‘s Nationals. And I‘d argue 3 points gap in PCS is fair. Aliona adding the 3A often threw her off this season, her interpretation suffered a bit and she was behind the music. Today, however, she performed better than she ever did. It was obvious that her score would be through the roof. It‘s too high, of course, but... RusNats.

(The only good thing is that no one will truly be able to say Zhenya was overscored after that score today. Looks like they had to find a new one to complain about...)

Zhenya's score was pretty fair.
She was very focused on getting through that SP without major error, a gritty performance rather than a sublime one like at Rostelecom Cup.

so how many quads will sasha need to land tomorrow to win, if Aliona is clean? can Anna catch her if she's clean?

If Anna lands her quad flip and the rest she is a threat I believe.
Anna is getting better and better too and seems to have less pressure and focus on her than either Alyona or Sasha.

Anna always seems to be in the shadows. But for someone with such a great high scoring routine and ballerina like qualities that makes no sense.

I just hope everyone is excited about what's going on at this Nationals for the ladies even without Alina the reigning Olympic and World Champion this is a fantastic and fascinating event.

The gap between Sasha and Alena is pretty much the same as at GPF so I reckon 4 if she's lucky and the judges go with her but 5 if she wants to win decisively.

For Anna... Well I would've said if she's clean she would win but the gap is bigger than at GPF so I'm not so sure. She may get enough of a pcs boost with a clean performance but it will be close regardless.

Anna beat Aliona in the FS at the GPF with a fall and an UR quad. Aliona was about as clean as she could have been. If Anna‘s clean tomorrow, she‘s very likely to beat Aliona. Sasha needs about 3-4 quads. Idk why everyone assumes Aliona is unbeatable now. I love her but she isn‘t. Her strength is the lead she can get from the SP at the moment. And she desperately needs it because we‘re talking about 5 quads from Sasha and 3 from Anna she is up against tomorrow. I don’t know what will happen and of course I‘m rooting for Aliona the most. But if Anna and Sasha land their jumps, they‘ll most likely end up ahead of her, despite the lead from the SP Aliona has.

Also Liza Nugumanova did amazing! The 3Lo+3Lo was UR but her performance was on point! So much energy, charisma and personality. She’s really grown a lot since her prodigy days. So underscored in PCS. 31 PCS? For that performance? Clearly she deserved at least 35, but we all know how judges are.

very true, and for this reason i hope she is or will be working on a quad in the off season because there will come a point where she needs it. it's only a matter of time until Anna and Sasha get 3As stable.

Anna could beat her in the FS but we will see if she can score enough to beat her overall.
If Alyona skates the way she did in the FS, Anna will need to be perfect and gain 10+ points on Alyona.
It's not impossible though, Anna does still have quad flip planned I hope?

Scherbakova will beat Kostornaia if she’s clean with 3 quads. Trusova needs to land four. As far I know, she hasn’t done this yet. I’ve said this a few weeks ago: Scherbakova is more likely to give Kostornaia her first loss than Trusova.

I don’t know why people were so mad that Sasha beat Zhenya (who only had the “easier” triples) at Rostelecom with two fall, but three rotated and completed quads with one in the back half and two in combo, while they find Anya with a fall, an UR and only one completed and rotated quad beating a clean Alyona with 2 triple axels completely understandable. Sure Anya should have higher PCS than Sasha, but the difference is like a max of four points (Anya’s FS isn’t a good representative of how musical and artistic she can be). So why can Anya afford a fall and an UR and beat clean Alyona while Sasha has to land all her quads?

Sasha has landed four but not 100% clean...a bit messy. I think at Japan Open?
