2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Well I think that the decision to go on a vacation overseas when the biggest event of their dauhter's life was cancelled due to a worldwide epidemic was not a smart decision and should be punished, but not to Sasha. Maybe have them pay a fine, and that comment about her on social media is nonsense. Just have her post something encouraging people to stay home or smth, no way one of the best skaters in the world should be removed from the national team just because of the unwise decision of the adults in her life.

Some people really really really hate Sasha. It's a shame. If this was Alena, Alina, or Evgenia, it wouldn't have the same reaction. Well, it's the 15 year old Russian who can do things nobody else can, so....

No, do NOT have her post anything of the sort, it would reek of self-entitled hypocrisy after she got to enjoy her overseas jaunt. She should quietly just do her quarantine and then let it go. Most people do not expect sports stars to all be particularly bright (or even good role models all the time) after all so it will eventually be forgotten... unless she or her family hand the virus to others, and even then it will fade once she wins a few medals (cynical me? yep.)

And you have to be joking with that last sentence - were it Medvedeva, some of the Russian Tutberidze faithful would be calling for her to be hanged drawn and quartered, and that if in a kindly mood

Yeah, I don't think it'd be smart for her to post something either. But I also agree that calling for her to be removed from the national team is a little extreme. Was it stupid for her and her family to go on vacation in the middle of a worldwide pandemic? Absolutely. Does it warrant that kind of punishment? Absolutely not.

Honestly, she should just lay low and stay off social media for a while. It'll blow over eventually.

Well, but Sasha is 15, we can‘t forget that. I hardly expect her to argue against her parents when it comes to traveling. So, I don‘t think it has anything to do with how “bright“ she is. More like, how bright the parents are, as they are the adults, they really should know better. But Sasha? I know she‘s in the spotlight and all that but she‘s still a teenager.

About her removal from the National team... That‘s way too harsh. Sasha would be the one to suffer. Her parents should be held accountable, however, especially if they spread the virus to others. (How likely are we to find out about that, however?)

As for the last paragraph: Shh, you can‘t say something like that here.

But seriously, in Evgenia‘s case it would be a bit different because she‘s legally an adult. It‘s not like she has to do something so grave to get the kind of treatment you described, though... When she posted a picture on Instagram of her going grocery shopping (mind you, with gloves AND a mask on) there were some incredibly clever people demanding to know why she wasn‘t staying at home and whether she was intentionally putting everyone at risk. :palmf: And Aliona and Alina have their fair share of hater.s as well, we‘ve seen it on this very same forum, so I doubt it‘s just Sasha who gets this kind of treatment. This doesn‘t make it better, obviously, just shows that this problem is sadly more widespread...

All the smarties that Sasha now accuses of not being bright were certainly not smarter until recently. I would argue that, strictly speaking, the danger in Egypt was no greater than in Moscow at the same time. And when I think of the hugging and kissing that took place there after the last competitions, I can only say that the drama about Sasha is a farce.

Looks like Wimbledon will now be cancelled. Not postpone but cancelled. Sports is in real trouble as is the world.

I think people should lay off Sasha. She's an incredible figure skater and athletes want a vacation after their season is over and that's all this was even though it was irresponsible of her parents to do that. But leave this girl alone.

Well, as sad as it is, I believe there are more pressing concerns than sports right now...

Agree on the second part, I wonder what people expected Sasha to do. If my parents had told me at 15 that we‘d have a vacation and that it was safe to do so, I might have argued for a while but eventually believed them. And now it‘s her fault she didn‘t stomp her feet on the ground and demand to be left at home? Come on. That‘s ridiculous. Hold her parents responsible in some way or another, by any means. But leave the kid alone.

Technically, she's a senior and therefore... in the eyes of the world, an adult. But that's not the point, the point is that it doesn't have much if anything to do with how bright she personally may or may not be, or even how wise the whole family was to do this. It's what she is - a sports star, a celebrity on physical grounds - and why that will get her leeway. Fans and the public do make exceptions for sports stars which they wouldn't for those in a field where mental acuity or even common sense was a given. Sports stars all over the world do dumb things, and are excused (check any brand of football and wince a lot), because the public expect their strengths to physical, not intellectual.

About her removal from the National team...

Won't happen. No one actually believes for a minute it will, do they? She could hand the disease round the entire rink and club, and they'd still forgive and quickly forget the minute she hit those quads. This is sport.

You don't have to tell me about haters... look at who is on my icon :noshake:

Yeah, I figured you could.

It was more of an addition anyway to those who still think Sasha is the only figure skater getting hate when basically stepping on competitive ice guarantees you your very own premium package of that experience.

Oh, and for those (im)mortally offended at someone daring to make a joke:

Enjoy this meme and don‘t succumb to the what-about?!-ism.

And if this doesn‘t work:

Watch this instead. Fool proof measure of bringing a smile on everyone‘s faces. :agree:

But since we’re at it: Quad o’clock makes me remember that I forgot Anna‘s birthday. But better late than never, so, I guess there goes nothing:

Happy Birthday, two time Russian Queen. :)

IMO, it's not really the destination that was a concern at the time; it's unnecessary air travel. So many people close together and so many of them will travel sick because they feel like they can't miss an important meeting or their holiday is non-refundable, or they got sick at their destination and just want to get home to recover. I've picked up some nasty illnesses on flights over the years including the one that left me with a hacking cough for six weeks after we got home and another one where a sinus infection went acute in a painful enough way over the open Atlantic the purser was asking me if I wanted him to try to find a doctor for me. (That one got a temporary fix when my husband remembered he had the really good German non-prescription nasal spray kn his carry on bag that made the pain go away until we got back to the States)

Doesn't stop me from flying because that's the best way to get to so many cool and important places in the world, but I'm definitely not flying right now and have had to scrub plans for a trip in April.

I agree with that last sentence, I meant the people that don't believe Medvedeva is a villain for leaving Eteri. I guess I can see your point, now just hope that she and her family are ok (and the puppies!)

Without question life is more important than sports. Sadly a lot of this virus has spread because people did not stay put.

I have no criticisms of Sasha in this case with our parents taking the family to Egypt. I hope they're all healthy and what day did should be a learning experience for everyone else. But I have to believe they were told it is safe to go there for vacation and then things changed big time whilr they were gone.

I think it's ridiculous for there to be talk of kicking Trusova off the national team - they didn't kick Zagitova off when she 'took a break' halfway through the season - if you aren't kicking someone off the team for quitting halfway through the season then they would be nuts to kick someone, who is legally a minor, off the team because at the end of the season their parents took them on vacation but it just happened during the absolute worst period of time with the current medical situation going on in the world.

The only thing that the Fed or Sambo should "do" (her and her parents did it) to Trusova is prohibit her from being at the training facilities for the incubation period for the virus, which is 14 days I believe. If people want the parents penalized but not Trusova....The government (similar to any government) - should make them (and anyone else that had to be evacuated) pay for the evacuation flight.

Aren't the training facilities closed?

I would give the guess thatthe rinks will also stay closed for a bit longer still so i see no problem with Sasha beeing in a self quarantine for 14 days it's not as if she misssesany icetime or something like that
