2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

One would think the choreographers and program creators have plenty of time on their hands now to search for music, images, brainstorm over ideas.

But staging top quality programs takes time (4-8 weeks?) and with ice not being available right now, season's start still unknown, competition calendars not finalised, perhaps a lot of skaters will stick to their old programs for economic reasons or out of practicallity?

I want Anna to keep her SP.

And a really powerful piece of music for Sasha to highlight her jumps in the free program.

SAME. this program absolutely has another season in it, and it was just gorgeous on Anna. her musicality and emotion is spot on in that performance.

i'm hoping for 2 new programs for Aliona as both were repeats this season. i also agree with something Spanish for her SP would be nice again, and something more lyrical for her free...but still different than what she has done before.

i know i have said it before here, but i really hope Sasha returns to something jazzy for one of her programs. i still think her interpretation of big spender is the best she's done so far, and her personality really comes out more with that style of music than the more serious/heavy pieces she's done in the last couple seasons. i think it could really help her PCS.

I somehow missed Liza announcing her programs - what will they be?

I know she's doing Spartacus for the short and I think some kind of Japanese music for the free (not sure about this one though, so correct me if I'm wrong!)

Thanks! :) I am very corious how spartacus will turn out. (I hope she keeps the costume for it simple, without too much gladiator style) as for japanese music - i really cannot foresee how Liza will be performing to it. But I hope it will be great

As for the programs.

Alina:
SP program is good for her, just sometimes I think that programs like this, when used longer than one season, may not be so persuasive after more renditions. So I probably incline more to the new one. BTW what would you say to have Zimmer's Planet Earth II intro music as a program?
FS - Alina can keep this, just some reworking of the step sequence should be done providing lvl 4.

Anna:
SP - I like the choreo very much (in Anna's rendition), though I confess I'm not fan of the music. Would like to see similar type of program, light, ethereal, but on a different music. Like Bach's Air or Pachelbel's Canon in D.
FS - I would like Anna to keep this program, it suits her well. Though I hope people would not consider the costume change overfamiliar already (still, we should keep in mind that most of the programs lost it's chance to shine at the top event, which probably is raising the chance for repeating them in the new season generally).

Aliona:
SP - the thing is similar to what I've written above about Alina's SP. It seemed to me that through the season Aliona didn't enjoy this program much (after all, she herself said already during the previous junior season that her SP is already boring a little for her). And I'm not expecting she would use the same program for the third season in a row. I have an idea. When I wrote that for Anna I would like e.g. Pachelbel, it would be interesting to see Aliona in not so lyrical pose. Do you know rock renditions of Pachelbel? Something like that would be interesting choice for Aliona
FS - I expect new program for her as well, though considsering that her Twilight was makeshift a little, it suited her well. But if for SP I propose something more to freak out, FS should be serious. Last of the Mohicans, perhaps?

Sasha:
SP - would like to see her program from the show as her new SP, although I liked Grieg in her rendition.
FS - I presume we will see new program as well, something similarly strong but more aimed at components. How about Sasha's namesake Alexander?

Lilbet:
If she will be in a competitive form, I presume she will keep programs planned for this season. I liked what I saw at the Shanghai Trophy

Kamila:
SP - it will be hard to find something that could match the Girl on the Ball. I see Kamila's SP similar to what I would like to be created for Anna. Or maybe some piano work. Pictures from the Exhibition could be great, but having again program based (partially) on pictures is not probable. How about Bach's Prelude in C major?
FS - don't ask me why, but Handel: Sarabande.

Daria:
Tough proposition. The problem is that if there's something that could be objected to her programs from this season, than it is that they were truly too similar and now I can't imagine her in a different pose. How about some Chopin, for the start? And Marco Polo as the free?

Maiia:
Even tough as Daria. SP could stay, for the FP I have in mind Beethoven's 6th symphony 4th movement.

I can't offer much of the contemporary music I'm afraid.

As for the programs.
....

I don't even know where to begin ....

.... but I have complete faith and full confidence in the combined creative genius of Daniil Markovich and Eteri Georgiyevna when it comes to bringing out the Khrustalniy skaters in the best possible way.

hehe I actually don’t have you (or anyone on ignore) I was just trying to steer the conversation in a different direction, although unsuccessfully.

May I offer a topic for anyone interested? What is your dream music choice for any of the Russian ladies next season? Or would you like anyone to keep programs from this year?

Anna: I would keep the SP (especially if she plans on adding a 3A) - it's an exceptional piece of music with a haunting tone that she has performed wonderfully on many occasions.

For the FS, I was thinking maybe something from Ravel (Daphnis et Chloe comes to mind) if she is looking for something a bit softer or some pieces from Holst's The Planets if she was looking for something a bit more dramatic & orchestral. Giselle would also be a great choice.

Alena: For the SP, I would love to see her skate to Esperanza (from Maxime Rodriguez). I really want to see another Latin-themed program from her and it's a piece of music that isn't used as much as Malaguena, for example.

For the FS, I think the Nocturnal Animals soundtrack has some great pieces of music that would fit her style.

Sasha: I'm of two minds with for her SP. If she wants to branch out and try something lyrical, I would go with the Standchen SP that she showed earlier this year. Otherwise, for the SP, maybe something a bit more upbeat like Bei Mir Bitsu Shein so she could show off her performance side. Or, if she would like something a bit more modern, she could try a Sia or Florence and the Machine program.

For the FS, I actually want her to go completely out of the box and try music from Hiroyuki Sawano (he's a Japanese composer known mostly for his music on anime). His pieces are very exciting and powerful - especially the soundtracks from Kill la Kill and Attack on Titan.

Ksenia: I really love the SP and wouldn't mind if she kept it for next season. However, I think La cena (from "La califfa") would be an excellent choice for her. I believe she has the grace and maturity to pull it off. I need to think a bit more for the FS.

Zhenya and Liza have already announced their programs and I'll probably edit this when I can think of program ideas for Alina.

In a good way or the bad?

Good way I hope. I love listening to music from all ages, but mostly baroque and classics, but am completely oblivious to programmatic music suitable for a figure skating routine.

I've suggested a cut from Samuel Barber's Overture to 'The School for Scandal', Opus. 5 to Daniil Markovich by DM for Alyona Kostornaya a while back. A powerful skating music can be cut from this overture, and the title is fitting for Alyona I thought ;-) I believe it has never been before used in figure skating.

I have the CD this track is from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yF1QT60ibk on my iPhone and play it very often.

What about Clair De Lune for Daria? It's different from everything she's done, but I think the softness would fit her/be a nice change. I don't know if Daniil has ever choreographed something like it, so it could be super interesting!

I love that idea for Daria! I think it would make a great SP.

It was in my shortlist, but it was Rika's short program last season, so I didn't chose it at the end.

I know it was Evgenia's 2014-2015 SP music, but I love the idea of Umbrellas of Cherbourg for Daria :)

Evgenia skated an exhibition skate in 2015 to Ostanus by Gorod312 . I love that music. I'm not sure who would skate to it best, but I hope someone does.

Anna: Across the Stars by John Williams / Sleeping Beauty Op. 66 by Tschaikowsky

Alina: Adagio for Strings Op. 11 by S. Barber (for something more classical), Now We Are Free (Gladiator OST)
Soundtracks from the Sissi movie (composed by Pino Donaggio)

Alena: Jane Eyre OSTs by Dario Marianelli / Age of Innocence by E. Bernstein

Sasha: Requiem for a Dream or Wonder Woman's Wrath

Daria: Debussy: Rêverie / Jazz Suite No. 2 VI. Waltz by Dmtri S.

Kamila: Symphony No. 3 in F major Op. 90 by Brahms (Seattle Symphony Version)

It really was. She was driving like 2 miles per hour! EdRoz even pointed out at the time she had her hands perfectly placed on the steering wheel! :) But all kidding aside, I'm truly sorry for even bringing it up again :(

I was just trying to relate it to what is happening now and how it all ends up just fading away and not mattering.

Hands at 10 and 2 I believe! Great technique! The Russian driving judge gave it a perfect 10. ;)

Anna: Sleeping Beauty Op. 66 by Tschaikowsky

When I was a little kid it was my dream to skate to this (I got the idea from the ice-skating American girl doll who skated to it), and I may or may not have cried when my coach said no. I would love to see Anna skate to it!!! She would do it so well and I could live vicariously through her .

I'll have a go at programs I'd love to see (sorry most are warhorses)

Kostornaya:
SP- Agree with whoever said Requiem for a dream, that would be really cool
FS- Experience or The Four Seasons

Trusova:
SP- The Planets
FS- James Bond medley

Shcherbakova:
SP- Keep the same SP, it's really great
FS- La La Land

Zagitova:
SP- Bells of Moscow or something out there like her short this year (Lighthouse by Patrick Watson?)
FS- Scheherazade
