2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Not Buyanova too...
Panova, Davydov, Rafael Arutyunyan, I can see Sasha do well with them. Plushenko is the wildest card out of all coaches, especially before Olympics.

Rafael makes the most sense to me, I find it unlikely that Eteri would have her go out planning to do 4-5 quad programs in competition if she wasn't doing them in practice so it seems like its more a mental problem than anything physical. Rafael has done good things with Mariah Bell who had consistency issues, but the kicker there is that he's in the US, I don't know (nor do I or anyone else need to know) what her financial situation is but moving from Russia to California would be extremely expensive.

It doesn't shock me to hear the rumor mill churning out that she is leaving Eteri, nor would it shock me if it's true. While she did very well this season, it was not the expected results for her to be the 1 placing last among the 3 new seniors, she was the 1 that was supposed to come in and dominate.

Regardless of who she goes to I hope it was her decision/desire to do it and not someone else's as it's her career, and I hope it works out for her.

I thought all year there was a problem between team Eteri and Team Trusova. It seemed as if she already had one foot out the door. On the one hand, Plushenko claims his wife can do better by the skaters in terms of endorsement income. I hope this is the right move for her, but I rather doubt it. I think she would have been better off in Sochi with Urmanov. Still, it is sad to see the end of 3A.

I think Stasya went to Plushenko in part because he has so many big money making shows that Stanislava can be featured in because she's such a beautiful skater. But Sasha is only 15 and has years ahead of her whilst Stasya is at the end of her competitive best.

I did not have the feeling that Sasha had one foot out the door this year doing all the photo shoots with 4A and all their media appearances as well. She ate that up. The big issue she had is that Aliona and Anna are simply better than she is. They are more consistent more artistic better interpretation and better skating skills than Sasha has. Sasha saw this every day in practice and I bet it wore on her mentally knowing she had to be almost perfect in every competition to top them. Now if she leaves their group she won't have to see them everyday and be mentally broken by them and their greatness.

We can only wish Sasha the best but I am puzzled by this move because whatever coach she chooses won't be nearly as good as the one she is apparently leaving. and I said this all season Sasha is just doing too much in these competitions there's no reason for her to try to do four or five quads in free skate. How about perfecting 3 in a free state and then go into 4?

I also think she is handicapped in the short program because she cannot do a quad there and you know she would put up much better scores if she could do a quad in thevSP. That's unfair to her that she can't do a quad in the short program.

And to think it was just about exactly two years ago that Evgenia left EG.

Be calm Russian Ladies Threaders.

Lets wait for Alexandra to tell us her reasons. Maybe it was all very amicable between her and Eteri's camp. Sometimes people just need a change.

But she learned 3A, so she wasn’t handicapped in the short anymore. The only task was to make it consistent, which I’m sure was coming.
And it doesn’t look like Plushie is the person to go to solve her problems. :(

Kamila will fill in nicely. ;)

Oh I wouldn't bet the farm on that... not with two years to go before the big one.

I'm actually rather surprised that anyone is surprised (okay, the Plushy bit, not so surprised at the surprise, but that the 3A has cracked? come on!)

Welp, now that it's official it doesn't seem like a good decision really. Panova, Mishin, Davydov, not to mention Arutunian and Orser (Hamada or Lambiel even) all would have been better choices. Obviously as an athlete who hasn't won any major senior competition she can't expect much funding to go overseas like Evgenia did but still...

Now the possibility of seeing Alina in her top form is bigger though. I assume Eteri will be determined to have 3 athletes on the team again. As mentioned, I'm not really surprised that the 3A split up since it's very difficult to keep three talented and ambitious teenagers together in one team. Evgenia/Alina didn't survive long so it's not likely that 3A could.

Plyushchenko of late has gained a public reputation of being toxic and amoral.

Nothing good will come of any established athletes switching to his ‘enterprises’. As has been proven.

He might think of himself as being the greatest skater ever, but so far nothing came from his managing or coaching.

Plus, did the Trusov’s really fall for the lure of money, entrance into the world of reality shows, gossip, slander and shameless self promotion?

I’d be most disappointed if that were the case. But, the promise of money and exposure can meddle even serious minds of adults choosing the career path of their child.

May wisdom prevail over Aleksandra’s future. She and her parents might have felt to be left behind a little, compared to Kostornaya competitive successes and Shcherbakova’s successes with the mainstream media?

PS, the sponsored trolls are out again, just see who are popping up all of a sudden
your first sentence says it all Edwin. This is a huge gamble for Sasha.

Sasha's personality is definitely irreplaceable.
True. But having to deal with Anna, Aliona and Kamila everyday in practice may have been harder than we thought on Sasha. Now she will be the undisputed Queen and heavyweight champion of the world at Plushenkos academy. ;)

Sad news. Wish Sasha good luck, anyway.
Best of luck and great health for Sasha. It will be interesting to see if she can keep her high level and improve on it or if she fails without EG and her team.

Also.. we are assuming that this wasn't Eteri's camp telling her she needed a change.

To be honest Alexandra's skating skills aren't as complete as Alena, Alina or Anna and if she is having jumping issues maybe change is necessary.

Honestly.. folks leave coaches all the time. I know some of you love Eteri but she isn't immune to students making other choices.

i am very afraid Sasha's career has ended before it really began...

i think she should have given it another season before deciding. she still medaled in all events she took part in this year. she is a GPF and European medalist. those are huge accomplishments in your first senior season, and it looked as if she was on her way up before worlds was cancelled. if she still struggled next season, thats reasonable- entertain a switch. but jumping the gun is not always a smart decision...

Sasha has a lot of talent and is a very special skater, but i'm not at all confident she will be with coaches who can bring out the best in her. i think Raf would have been great with her, especially training with Nathan. i hope we will be surprised.

Of course she isn’t and it’s perfectly understandable. At some point, skaters would like a change, that’s totally fine.
But even given the fact, I’ve never imagined Alexandra with any other coach, and the last thing I would think is Plushenko.

what is even happening right now...my wig is snatched

Team Tutberidze never fails to serve some off season drama.

Well, there is a certain dominance in Eteri Georgiyevna, which cannot be denied.

My way or the highway, which might explain why a loyal and faithful dog like Dudakov stays, but young and aspiring Rozanov might need another challenge, chance to prove himself. One cannot blame him for that either.

Will there be other skaters taking the chance to follow who they believe is best for them, or rather their parents making similar choices, since for children one strict coach or another does make no real difference.
