I thought Maddie skated well. It's her first worlds and had one great skate and she held it together in the long and finished 13th. If you told me she's do that last week I would have taken it in a heartbeat.

I'm sure she would have liked to have another great skate, but ice is slippery, and she doesn't quite have the fire power of those that finished above her yet

Part of me thinks SC was probably really clear that making the free was more important than anything else since it means qualify the Oly spot now and not later.
I’d bet she practices it a lot more than the free.
I also think she was probably a bit awestruck being in the penultimate flight.
I’m also thinking back to her other performances and she usually does pop a jump or two.
 
Maddie really impressed me here despite the errors in the free. Her jumps are so crisp and powerful, they kind of remind me of a young Kaetlyn Osmond. I don't mind that Canada lost a second ladies spot, since the current strength of the field is such that even a consistent 3-3 is a rarity, but the men... Hoping the agony of choosing just one out of three high-calibre candidates won't need to be repeated next year. Crossing fingers and toes for Keegan!!
 
Maddie had a great skate in the Free. Yeah, there were mistakes. True, she dropped some placements from her 9th place in the short but did anyone expect anything else? Come on, it's her first Worlds, a Worlds after difficult circumstances at home, and a lot of expectations hanging on her. So many people were surprised there were 2 spots for women and only 1 for men (thank you Kaetlyn and Gaby). I was impressed by her, especially after Emily 'let her down' (and that's not meant to be negative about Emily who of course did her best). And so there's only one spot at the OG. You Canadians have handled worse in the past. Just don't blame this girl for anything. She skated her best, she tried. What more do you want? And she definitely has prospects...2026 will be a different show altogether!
 
i don't think anyone is blaming Madeline. So proud of her ! And may the best lady go to the games and worlds next year. I have no problem with one spot only... though it may be heartbreaking for many considering the mix of veterans and teenagers who may be competing for that spot next year
 
13th is very good for a skater who's competing in their first major international competition. I think even if she had been clean she would have fallen because her free base value is lower. But she's improved so much in one season, who knows what she'll do next season
 
Proud of Maddie's skate today! She seemed really nervous...and who can blame her, given this is her first major international competition, and she hasn't even been to a Junior GP or Senior GP yet. She looked upset because it wasn't the skate she wanted, and she probably put some extra pressure on herself to get that 2nd Olympic spot after sitting in 9th after the SP....but to be honest I don't think anyone ever expected her or Emily to make it to the FS or be in Top 10, let alone be competitive enough to retain that 2nd spot.

Maddie's 3Lz-3T was the third highest scoring element in the SP, she scored 180+ overall with a shaky FS and a lot of room to improve, and she was 13th at her first major Worlds and first major International event ever...so she has a lot to be proud of and build on from here onto the Olympics. Given her huge improvements in such a short amount of time, I have no doubt she will come back guns blazing next season.
 
Maddie did great for her first international senior competition. She’s improved so much since nationals it’s going to be exciting to see what another year will bring.

In unrelated news, the “Armenian” dance team tested positive for covid, they’re actually Canadians who train with Dubreuil in Montreal. I’m sure they have friends on the Canadian team, hopefully there wasn’t any close contact at the event.

For some comparison (although it's not right to compare them), Kaetlyn finished 8th at her first worlds, with a score 9 points lower than what Madeline received here, and she left a bunch of points on the table. At this point in Kaetlyn's career, she had already WON Skate Canada, while Madeline hasn't even been to a GP. The pairs did their job and kept their 2 spots. KEEGAN, wow, just amazing. People were mad at Skate Canada for sending him, saying Roman was a better choice. Roman's PB would have placed him exactly 10th here, in an unusually sloppy competition with some big guns completely bombing and not making the free. Keegan showed up and blew us away, so proud of him. Did he say in the K&C "Nam we did it, I love you buddy"? or something along those lines. Well, Nam or Roman have to step up to the plate now and get that spot at Nebelhorn, Keegan did his job. will be an exciting year to see who gets those 2 (hopefully) spots!

Dance still to come! The judges were nice to Piper and Paul yesterday (could have been a bit nicer IMO). Hoping there's not much movement in the placements, keeping the 3 spots is looking good at the moment.

I think we could still get a bronze at the Olympic team event!

Canada just may have an outside shot at the bronze with some luck.

Russia/USA are pretty set.
As it stands; Canada would have placed better than China, France, Italy and SK. But Japan can definitely play spoiler with Pairs bei mg stronger now
 
KEEGAN GOT 6TH!!! So, I didn't know about the Nebelhorn Olympic rule change until this week. As I understand it, Nam or Roman now has to go there and finish in the top X places (how many?) to secure the 2nd Olympic spot.

But Vincent Zhou could go to Nebelhorn for the US since he didn't make the LP at Worlds, right?

Yay Keegan!!! I think this is his most consistent season to date. I was nervous, but he did his job. I am so happy!!!

6 spots so who ever Canada sends to Nebelhorn just need to be in top 6. USA & Russia most likely will grab one each. So 4 spots left but i can't think anyone that is really a threat for the last 4 spots. A decent skate from Nam or Roman should do it.
