Chinese fans are savage!
Savage vandals too, weren't they once cought wrecking a display stand with Hanyu at some GP event ...

Regarding Chinese skating, the feared drain of top Russian trainers and coaches to China didn't really happen, did it?

No skaters had to switch rinks or were left abandoned because their trainers/coaches left.

For those of you interested, a review of the Aleksandra Trusova book: Прочитала книгу "Александра Трусова" и рассказываю о своих впечатлениях. В целом, мне книга не понравилась. | Мир фигурного катания | Яндекс Дзен (yandex.ru)

Not a very favourable review, both regarding to the quantity and quality of actual content. No new information revealed, seems just like rehashed text from the various interviews available.

Your calculations have been incredible so far...on Kamila is it not +2 +2 so +4? With Sasha, I think the GOE would be closer to 1.7 if she does it well. Although on that note I would say Kamila would get +2.2 for a clean 3Lz.

My thoughts on the other page considered Sasha doing 3Lz-3Lo, but I hope for 3F-3T. It would be so much safer, and as you've shown, still enough to win. On your calculations, if Sasha did the 3Lz-3Lo, but replaced the 4S with a 3F, do you think she would win then too?
I based my layout of what she attempted to do at Rostelecom where the 3Lz+3Lo was replaced. The extra GOE was really just a verry rough approximation (the 3A GOE was from one of LIzas good ones and for the combos it was based on what they have been getting in the short) so take them with a grain of salt.

On the replacing 4S with 3Lz+3Lo I actually think it would be more risky at this point so if I where them I would not go for it. I think the BV would drop by about 3 points with the switch which doesnt lower the risk but allows for one less mistake

I'm not wanting what I am about to say to dissolve this into a conversation about the pandemic but...It would surprise me if they didn't go on with the normal event - GP Russia had a banquet and I've seen pictures on social media of skaters going to non-competition events and meeting fans and taking side-by-side pictures with them including at their respective skating rinks. The Russian figure skating community does not appear to feel the need to grossly change their lives because Covid exists, so all the competitors being in some auditorium to draw a number doesn't seem like it will be the thing thrown out.
Based on the spikes in covid cases after Rostelecom I would hope that they learned something and therefore is more careful this time around. On the other hand the Russian figure skaters are soon reaching heard immunity at the rate the spread have been going :slink:

May I shortly change the topic away from the hot button issue, or has this thread turned already into a holy space of advent, eager anticipation of Russian Nationals, like it was the birth of a Savior (Christmas pun very much intended).

So I found this interesting video of Dasha Sadkova with only about 600 views. This is something like her twelfth birthday montage, dated three days after the actual date of June 26th. Anyway, I think it's beautifully shot, underrated "mood piece", where we get to skate across the ice with Dasha. 🤩

And I also find the choice of music very apt ("...and the worlds gonna know your name"). I hope it turns out to be profetic. Skating here in a relatively remote town of Yoshkar Ola (I guess), little did Dasha know, that in a few months time she'll be skating in Moscow, in the best figure skating school in the world.

Oh, and the title of the video says: "Happy birthday! Darya Sadkova 2020". And the discriptive text undernieth: "Today Dasha is celebrating her birthday - a little girl with a big heart, in which there is a lot of love for figure skating!"

Republic of Mari-El and the city of Yoshkar-Ola are rightfully proud of both Agneta Latushkina and Dar'ya Sadkova, who presented themselves well in the Russian Cup.

Agneta should have medaled in the 5th Stage had she been in a rink of more distinction:

Even appearing in a show

Here are some photos with Dar'ya in her costume that sort of blends into the ice, but Dar'ya shining eyes sparkle for themselves in her smiling face:

Just checked the flag of Mari-El, and yes, it's visible next to a Russian flag (ceiling) in the video I just posted. Detective work done!

Has the federation changed any rules pertaining to financing skaters for the next season?

Top 6 from the National Championships still get the full support package?

I really wonder what the Chinese fans called Sotnikova :slink: some nicknames are adoring, some are downright cruel. And Kim was adored.

Did they put in Zagitova's? Haven't watched the video yet. She was called "Acrobatic baby".

Medvedeva - Mei Wa - is because the transliteration into Chinese for Medvedeva is Mei Dou Wei Jie Wa. Easier to just write two syllables, I imagine.

They left a lot of information out of the video, not surprising since they are not Chinese fans. Some Chinese fans explained on Twitter that some explanations in the video weren't fully accurate. E.g. Evgenia is not just called Mei Wa because it is an abbreviation of her name, Chinese fans explained last year that they call Evgenia Mei Wa, next to Ice Queen, because it means plum doll and "Plum is the only flower blooming in the winter. So it stands for elegance, persistence, respect, gorgeousness and the spirits of never giving up in Chinese traditional culture"
Also they did not explain Aliona's nickname properly. Apparently she had that powerpuff girl nickname since novice, since her jumps are so high and not since last year when she skated the gala program (like the video claimed), which the creater mistakenly called a police women program haha
Some indepth explanation for Aliona's nickname by a Chinese fan

Would love if a Chinese fan did a video and explained all the nicknames.

I tried to find a nickname for Sotnikova but all I could find was "AS" which seems like a pretty lazy nickname...

I'm kinda surprised how many nicknames these fans come up with! They've even given nicknames to Akatieva and some other novices!
