But will they be able to qualify for junior Nationals through doing cup events as seniors? If not how will they select the team for JWC?

Maybe every junior eligible skater at senior nationals who has never moved up to senior internationally will automatically qualify for junior nationals. This seems like a reasonable solution.

Normally the rule is that every skater given a JGP is qualified to junior nationals. Maybe they will just say that every skater at test skates automatically gets a spot?

Given Valieva, Usacheva, Kromykh and Frolova qualify for senior nationals they will automatically qualify for junior nationals.

I don't know how about Liza, but sometimes it looks Mishin is very surprised by the fact that bad layout costs Liza plenty of points.
it would take one of the great coaches in the history of the sport and a world-class figure skater and a former world champion would be able to figure this out. I mean it's not exactly the brain surgery that Aliona wants to perform someday. ;) They should be able to figure this out and get it done for the benefit of Liza's career.

The Federation needs to expand the field for Russian Nationals.

I personally think its a combination of the two. Liza might not be able to do more difficult combinations like +3Lo or +eu+3S consistently, and may lack the stamina to backload difficult jumps and to do three different "ultra-si" jumps as they say. She might never be able to do crazy transitions in like the Eteri girls. And she might not be able to change that. But sometimes her layouts are just flat out bad. I don't care what anyone says, there's really never reason to do a +2A sequence, it literally loses her points on the base value. The fact that she continues to do that certainly means there is an issue with the planning. Its also very possible for her to improve her spins - there's no reason for her to ever be getting level 3s. There are plenty of spin variations and features that don't require extreme flexibility, just look at the men getting level 4s.

Exactly - her and her coach have known for years what the Eteri's skaters would come out with to earn points with tons of transitions and back-loaded jumps, why has there not been the challenger events that she does where she starts practicing adding some of those things over the years. If stamina is such a problem the forget changing the FS to back-load more difficult jumps; but she doesn't even back-load her combination in the SP which by it's name is short in length and she typically does 1 of the easiest combinations in the SP. I think Tuktamysheva's problem is her coach, he seems bound and determined that what won 10+ years ago should still be winning today. They are always playing catch-up to Eteri's skaters - Look at how quickly she learned the quad, they both knew that Shcherbakova/Trusova were coming into seniors with quads, it baffles me that they weren't working the quads harder in the offseason for Tuktamysheva so that she could come out swinging, but no she first had to go to Lombardi, Skate America and Cup of China and get beaten by Shcherbakova with quads that Tuktamysheva and Mishin knew she had.

And she only added a transition before her 3A this season, after they saw Aliona’s crazy entry into hers at Finlandia. Before that they used to use the simplest boring entry into it.
Liza was clearly capable of it all along, but it seems like they implement those changes when it’s too late and we’ve already seen something more complex.

Don't explain it to me, explain it to Mishin :)

Justg look at the layouts Liza had the last season. She repeated 3A n the FP, which was good, but then the combos are 2A+3T+2T, which still has it's sense, but the third one is 3Lz+2A+SEQ, which has BV only 7.36, just at some events she moved it into the 2nd half. In comparison with skaters with 3Lz/3F+3T/3Lo she loses everything she gains with her 3A. And considering Liza's relatively weaker spins and stsq (she rarely receives lvl 4) her BV is at the level of skaters with no 3A/quad and she also doesn't have much room for high GOE, not to mention components. The season before she did 3Lz+3T, but maybe in exchange for repeating 3A she had to sacrifice this strong combo.

What Liza needs is a layout like the following:

4T
3A+2T
3A
3Lo
3Lz+3T
2A+3T+2T
3F

She seems to struggle with stamina at times, however, her lutz toe was really nice in 2018-2019, so I could see it being a good combination for her to repeat next season. I doubt they’d do a layout like this if she wasn’t ready for it, though.

On another note, it was interesting to watch the test skates today. I really enjoyed Samodelkina’s 3A! I also loved Daria’s SP despite the mistakes - I enjoyed her long open moves during the Step sequence. With a little refinement, I think this program can really work for her. She just needs an Ashley Wagner acting class and she’ll be fine doing Moulin Rouge :laugh2:

I enjoyed test skates as well! Maiia and Sofia S were my two favorites :)

I really like this style of program for Maiia. It allows her to perform more and show a lot more personality! I liked Daria's program, but I'm not completely sold on it yet. With some more refinement, I think it could be great.

I was also very impressed with Liza Osokina! I hadn't seen her skate before, but there's lots of potential there. I'm excited to see more of her this season!

It's a shame Adelia had to withdraw, I was really looking forward to seeing her :(

Maiia was a completely new person today!
So confident and mature, her lines are exquisite. She improved so much.

Maya surprised me positively, I like the image and the music, she can get great results with this program. She sold that program 100% of the time and her interpretation was on point.

Daria was nervous and I don’t like the music choice.

Muraviova has a nice program, although not very well rehearsed, she was off the music tempo, but could be promising.

Samodelkina landed a beautiful 3A3T. Lovely choreography, lovely dancing skills. Could improve her first spin though. Promising too.

Anna Frolova had a boring program, although she’s lovely.

Osokina is probably the most unknown, but somehow the one that shined the most in my opinion. Great jumps, great choreo, great energy., good edges, average spins. Who trains her?

Where is Kseniia Sinitsyna? And Adelia Petrosyan?

Osokina is coached by Buyanova, Adelia withdrew due to a foot(?) injury, Sinitsyna moved up to senior.

Anna’s jumps became bigger compared to last season. I think Davydov was working a lot on her jumps since she moved to him.

Sinitsina will take part at senior test skates, I presume, she is 16 after all. Adeliya withdrew because of the injury, no details so far.

As for Daria, maybe it made her nervous that after Kamila's move to senior test skates she was suddenly in the position of the "favourite" skater. I hope tomorrow she will be more confident.

This was probably already answered but I haven’t been in the forum in a while. Does Alina going to school mean she will not compete this season or are we not sure still?
