According 'sources', both Kolyada and Gulyakova are ill, but apparently not infected?

" Some of the athletes have had coronavirus, some have already recovered, some will now miss the stage of the Russian Cup in Moscow due to injuries. But everything is going as planned. We hope that the number of cases of infection in the country will not increase and there will be no tougher measures for the competitions " - Aleksandr Kogan, director general of FFKKR, answered to questions about the upcoming 5th stage of Russian Cup and National Championships.

Ivan Bukin was also found infected:

Jonatan Gurreiro has a cold and the doctor advised him to stay home, so no 5th stage for him and his dance partner Tiffany Zagorskiy

Seems like almost the entire ladies field will be absent from nationals due to injuries, “colds”, “pneumonia “ or in the case of a few honest people corona. Which goes back to the above poster and their “why wouldn’t skaters who had been exposed but tested negative participate?” Easy answer is that from my understanding Russian COVID test yield false negatives almost 50% of the time. Even the best tests (not usually used in Russia) aren’t 100 accurate. If you are exposed, you should isolate. Not spread the infection to everyone at a huge event. The attitude of the federation is really disgraceful.

Mishin:

" My health is excellent. Liza Tuktamysheva and Gleb Lutfullin fell ill with coronavirus. The rest, if they fall ill, then its outside of COVID. Whether they will be able to take part in the Championship of Russia - I cannot answer "

Now waiting for TAT, Zhulin, Besta and all the other talking heads to give their opinions again ...

Bestemyanova is first:

“ I think that a lot will depend on whether there will be a European Championship. If this tournament takes pla e at the end of January, then the Russian Championship should be held with those athletes who are healthy. You need to choose who goes to the European Championships, and where else to be selected, if not in Chelyabinsk?

If information arrives saying there will be no European Championship, then it will be possible to make a selection for the World Championship at the end of February at the Russian Cup Final. "

“ But I don’t think that the Russian Championship will be postponed, Chelyabinsk is waiting for the athletes. And those who are healthy will come there. "

Well kudos to Mishin and Liza for being honest and confirming it's Covid. It's obvious that it's spreading through the Russian skating team considering just how many are out at the moment with "colds" and "pneumonia". Athletes don't normally check out of competitions for light illnesses so this is a serious problem and it's so disappointing how blasé RusFed are with this.

Is plushenko's team the only one without a confirmed case then?
No, Veronika Zhilina was infected. Strange case it was, as her mother and sister and Rozanov were still seen on ice in the hangar many times while Veronika was supposedly in isolation.

Sankt Peterburg Ultimate is now underway in the girls KMS category. No Team Mishin skaters in this event?

Wow, at this point if there is a nationals, who would even be there? (at this point it might be better to cancel since it is in—what 3 weeks?) The response of RusFed and skaters/coaches to covid was completely irresponsible and now we are seeing the unfortunate complications to that. Going forward I hope they know to put in place better safety precautions to keep everyone safe or almost every member will get covid at some point.

Valeriya Ovchinnikova skated a wonderful short program at full speed, deep edges, twists, turns and jumps in Sankt Peterburg Ultimate in KMS, but missed out on the spin bonus, so 38.50 TES + 30.46 PCS = 68.96 currently in second place:

Mariya Novikova leads the ranks for the time being with 40.09 TES + 30.68 PCS (which include Bonus points) = 70.77 for this routine:

Sof'ya Moroz is back, grown obviously, but had an error with 29.51 TES + 28.68 PCS = 58.19:

Sof'ya Zakharova skated the funniest routine to Pirates of the Caribbean, for 30.45 TES + 22.14 PCS = 52.59:

Anna Karpuk skated a wonderful routine, at speed, dancing, smiling, for 36.19 (1 Bonus mark) TES + 27.86 TES = 64.05:

Seems a rusty red colour is favourite amongst the Sankt Peterburg girls this season.
All in all a very nice competition was presented today, with good quality skating in most of the competitors.

Maybe they can move Russian Nationals to Stockholm. ;)

Sorry for all these skaters that are injured or sick but this is a bad time of the year for colds anyway especially in Russia. Personally I've been upping the vitamin C and vitamin D recently as it's getting colder here in Florida.

Since there won't be any Europeans I wouldn't mind them moving Russian Nationals to late January. That would also give a few skaters time to recover and get fit for rusnats. In America they have Nationals in the middle of January. Let's be honest as fans of the Russian ladies and Russian figure skating Russian Nationals is much more important than Europeans.

I've got it I've got it! They could have Russian Nationals in the middle of January and then if theyre still are Europeans they could for instance send all three Nastyas to Europeans!
