Satoko is allegedly in the US. She was not allowed to enter Canada after Japanese Nationals. Yuzuru is stuck in Japan, Junhwan Cha is stuck in Korea, Ekaterina is stuck in Poland. Rika was also not able to enter Canada. So far only US skaters were allowed to enter Canada.
I believe Satoko has been spotted in Detroit working with Yuka Sato, but it’s all hearsay

I think (iirc) they mentioned that in Evgenia’s case, she was likely able to return to Canada even after flying from Japan then to Russia, but the problem was that her visa or something was different from her mom’s and so Evgenia could’ve came back but her mom wouldn’t have been able to (I think I remember reading something like that but if I’m wrong, anyone please correct me 😂 ).
No that is not what was said. Evgenia has a different visa than her mom yes, however there was still no gurantee that she would have been allowed enter with her Visa. So far no non-US skater has been able to enter Canada despite them likely having the same Visa as her. Yuzuru, Junhwan and co. who have lived longer in Canada than Evgenia and therefore have the same Visa as her or even a better one, were still not able to come to Canada so far. Most of the TCC skaters are stuck outside Canada.

Have you kept up with Stéphane's students? Several of his students finally have Quads after seasons of struggle with them. Stéphane also has a jump technician in his team for that who helps with the technique.
I would’ve loved if Aliona went to work with Stéphane! That environment seems really healthy but also competitive. I’m biased, but I would also think TCC would’ve been a good fit because of the technicians there, easy access to good choreographers — Buttle and SLB, and in normal times (whenever that is lol) her training mates would be of high level as well (not to say that that isn’t that case as Stéphane’s place or Sambo though). But, sadly, I don’t think RusFed wants any Russian skaters to train with overseas coaches (many people from everywhere were terrible to Evgenia and Brian for that matter because of that).

Thank you for correcting me! It’s been so long since everything happened (can’t believe it’s been so long since September) and I’ve definitely got some facts mixed up. Hopefully other members of TCC will be able to return soon!

I can't keep up with the drama lol. The only one I heard of with Canadian visa issues is Papadakis. Apparently she doesn't have the special visa Cizeron has.

Everything is a hot mess! This whole time I thought Canada put up a pseudo wall against the US except for essential travel. People have been unable to buy "affordable" insulin.

I think the comments about Alena's parents are unfair (same for Anna when she skated at nationals). I don't know what you guys were like at 17, but when I was 17 I had the final say in my big decisions for the future. Her parents can't force her to stay with a coach, whether it's Eteri or Rozanov, if she doesn't want to. I'm sure they sat her down and talked about it, but ultimately it's her decision. Just because a girl is 16/17 doesn't mean they don't have their own thoughts and will simply say yes to everything their parents want. You don't magically acquire a brain at midnight on your 18th birthday. And the girls aren't stupid, they've been doing this for almost their whole lives so I don't believe they don't think about the consequences. These decisions aren't as "simple" as everyone from the outside thinks.
Yep, I really don't get it. I don't know about others, but since I was 15 I traveled all over the country all by myself(video game tournaments), and made decisions for myself as well, changed high schools at 17 as well. And a 17-year-old isn't a "child", and a 18-year-old isn't magically an "adult". It's individual for every single person. But frontal lobe development doesn't finish until late 20s for most, which is when I'd begin considering someone an adult. But I don't consider a 17-year-old a child. I would a 10-year-old.

A 17-year-old should be able to take responsibility for their own decisions and you can't just brush everything aside with "well she's just a child" or something ridiculous, I'd be furious if my mother thought so of me back then for example.

Rika was also not able to enter Canada. So far only US skaters were allowed to enter Canada. So no. If she had stayed in Canada she would have still had to travel to Russia for Test Skates and the Russian Cup and would have been stuck there like all the other skaters. Even Tarasova/Morozov had to stay in Russia for the competitions despite their training base being in the US.
Totally OT, but how is that possible??? My cousin (we are from Italy) departed three weeks ago for Toronto where he will stay for the next year for a post graduate job at the university (I think he got a work or a study visa); all he had to do was opening a bank account with a preestablished sum on it and quarantine for two weeks upon arrival...so how comes international athletes cannot go back to their coaches? I doubt it is because Italy has a favourable covid outcome, since we are on the verge of closing everything again...sorry for the OT.

Aliona for Rukavicin, now that's an interesting thought! His ladies are always nice to watch. In some ways Aliona reminds me of Gubanova but with better jumps. Realistically speaking it's not very likely though, as Moscow skaters rarely move to St Pete. So either TT or CSKA would be best, as you say.

Voronov, Rukhin, Erokhov and Samoilov all spent time with Tutberidze. Rukhin (and Voronov before him) moved to CSKA and is doing well. Erokhov and Samoilov wound up eventually at Moskvich, and while not excellent at least they are landing quads and not retiring.

Let's see if Trusova can prove whether a post-Tutberidze skating career is possible without a Y chromosome
Well said.

Great point about how Moscow skaters hardly ever moved to Saint Petersburg. But if TT does not take Aliona back where does she go?

Some have cited Zhenya‘s move to her - that‘s different. Zhenya was like their poster child for many, many years and she moved back in a time when Eteri had actually need for her to restore her reputation after both Aliona and Sasha left.
If you think taking Evgenia back helped Eteri’s reputation in Russia, you have to think again, lol
Let’s just say, it didn’t help at all and did quite the opposite. The feelings of those fans for Evgenia might just be stronger than their love for Eteri.

Cizeron has a permanent residency Visa. That is why he can stay in Canada. It's one step away from being a Canadian citizen. One has to live in Canada for 730 days during a 5 year period to get one. Hence why all the other athletes except Cizero do not have it.

Alena switching coaches (unconfirmed) is starting to remind me of Tarakanova's coaching situations. The constant switches and burning of bridges even before securing a new coach.

I think if she does go back to Eteri, and restabilizes her jumps, Sasha will be in trouble for the Olympic team. I think Alena is actually the federation's favourite - her PCS are still sky high even with struggles through the choreography and Lakernik got personally involved when she was struggling. No one did the same for Sasha when she fell all those times at Rostelecom.

Rozanov will also take a huge hit in his coaching reputation as the Zhilina girls have already left him, Sasha refused to work with him, and now Alena is possibly leaving him.

No one is perfect everyone is flawed the posters here the coaches the skaters the federation.

And yes the criticism of the parents is not fair. I've done it other people have done it and we don't know what's going on in their lives.

You are a rare bird Color that you could handle things on your own at 17 as a man. That is not the norm. You must have grown up before the smartphone is my best friend world. ;)

Lol. Taking back Evgenia definitely was a strategically smart move from Eteri. You think she only did it from the “goodness of her heart“? She‘s not stupid - it was all over the news for days and after the dramatic exit of two star students, taking back an old one - and a famous one at that - definitely helped. Not to mention that Evgenia is still a big star in Russia, so there‘s a financial component as well. I’m sure there was an emotional part involved, Evgenia and her did work together for almost a decade, after all. But it surely was not the driving point for either of the two.

Evgenia was in a difficult spot of her career as well and she needed guidance and ice time. She was injured and her future plans were crossed by the pandemic.

Overall, that’s IMO why this whole move was so smooth compared to the mess we‘re seeing now - both parties had advantages to gain from a new collaboration.

And I generally would not consider the voices of some avid Tutberidze fans, hating everybody daring to ever oppose her, as a realistic representation of the general public‘s impression.
