In Gagarin's words: Поéхали! Let's go!
Looking at all those photos, you would think that they are going to the Olympics and not to "just" Worlds. And I can only guess that the skaters themselves are really feeling like that. And this is also the first Wolrds for Anya and Sasha, how exciting is that then? I hope that they enjoy every second of this experience, it's also a good preparation for the Olympic season, to have a snip of what it is like to be part of such big delegation.

Just for a clarification - they are already in Sweden and now will be doing 10 days quarantine in order to be able to enter competition? (sorry, I have been so busy that I don't even know when WC starts :D)

The competition starts in wednesday already :)
On sunday, the skaters were tested and for it was already confirmed all tests are negative the skaters can start with trainings.

I think its because the Russian team (from what I've read on here) did an initial quarantine for the week prior to Worlds (which should please everyone that was railing on the Russians and saying they shouldn't be allowed to even go) and then the Fed chartered a flight so they weren't around anyone else on the flight. Additionally because this is the ONLY competition of the international season.

I have some issues with the lack of good protocols from the ISU, but that has nothing to do with the Russian team. I did see photos on the plane where the Russian skaters weren't wearing masks. Again, it isn't a Russian issue.. It is an ISU issue because they should be enforcing mask wearing for all athletes from all countries. Based on current infection rates, it is actually the skaters based in Europe who are most likely to current be infected with COVID-19 and given the lack of quarantine this could endanger other skaters including the Russians. I hope everyone follows protocols closely and do more than required by the ISU. Double masking, not leaving their rooms, eating by themselves.... We want all skaters to be safe, especially the young skaters from Russia!

There have been some comments on this board (not necessarily this thread) of people saying the Russian team shouldn't even be allowed to compete at Worlds due to the Russian Fed's lax rules for mask compliance.

I saw some photos as well of them with their masks off, but without being there I think we need to give a little grace for not knowing the circumstances - it can be hard to hear someone with the mask on so maybe they were needing to say something and had to take their mask off so the other person could hear them, maybe they were taking it off to take a picture, and it looked like they were pretty well spread out - i saw some skaters were in the middle seat and had the whole row to themselves and I saw some photos of skaters sharing a row but they had the middle seat empty between them. Plus, who knows the skaters may have been allowed to get a Covid vaccine, which if everyone on the flight has the vaccine then they should be able to exist just fine without masks. All in all from my perspective the Russian Fed did well for their skaters with quarantining them prior to leaving for Worlds and chartering a flight (which I know not all Feds could afford) to ensure their skaters weren't exposed to the general public, plus it probably made the event feel more special for the skaters which is nice considering they won't be able to have the normal Worlds festivities and an audience there.

Sasha is such a machine 💪🏻
I wonder if she personally makes a point to do more weight training and muscle building than the other girls or if that's her natural build. But those muscles definitely show in her jumps and why her quads are huge and powerful compared to someone like Anna who's technique is based on rotating as fast&tight as humanly possible

I'm pretty sure it's just her natural body type. She was doing the same off and on ice training as Alena, Anna, Alina, and Evgenia for 3 years, and they have very different body types. Sasha has a very ideal body type being strong but very lean so she has both power and the ability to rotate quickly. Alena is built more like Alina, and unfortunately Anna is thin like Evgenia and doesn't build muscle easily.

Thanks guys for explaining. I guess I won't be able to watch live but then I will organise myself a cosy figure skating weekend.
Unfortunatelly, as I know myself I wouldnt't help but spoiler myself with the final results before I watch the competition

I don't mind seeing the results beforehand and its incredibly difficult to avoid finding out before I'm able to see the performances since I'm usually a long time delay.

I think its wrong it doesn't match what Rika said she was going to do like a week ago
Rika's announcement is my hope for this list to be obsolete. :) Because if true, it would mean Anna is injured/didn't recover from illness yet or something similarly serious. And Sasha did the layout with two 4Ts at the beginning of the season, later she started to do two 4Lzes, so I presume it is just not updated.

It would also be interesting because Anna was doing a 4Lz and 4F at RusNats and Channel1 Cup, which would imply a new injury or setback.

I'm stunned hearing Meagan Duhamel words about Anna in TSL interview. This is pure body shaming and bullying cunningly dressed in false concern. :slink:
I suspect, if she said that about any North-American skater, nobody from fs community would've shaken her hand anymore, while humiliating 16yo Russian girl is completely cool there. :frown:

Not surprising words from this person, as it's not the first time, Alina faced her insults as well before 2019 worlds. I hope Anna would give her similar answer as Alina did.
