I'm a bit confused, Golubev also skated but he's not listed in the results?

PS for those who know, do you latinise я as 'ia' or 'ya'? Also not sure if ий is better written as 'iy', 'ii', 'y' or 'i' :slink:

It seems that lately i is preferred to y in yoted semivowels. I dunno, I remember I had a short Slavic lore based story a couple of years back and I was told that too many ‘y’ looked bad, maybe other people get the same feedback, to lay off ‘y’. I use ‘i’ nowadays.

Hmm... yeah, lots of 'y's can definitely be be awkward (e.g. Devid Naryzhnyy - because ый gives 'yy'), but too many 'i's might also be confusing (e.g. Dmitrii Kozlovskii). Another option 'j' makes sense for Germanic/Baltic/Slavic speakers but can freak out Anglophones (e.g. Ljubljana). I guess I'll stick with whatever is in the official bios if they have one (e.g. Danielian vs Danyelyan) :think: It is weird to see infinite variants of Raf's name though (Harutyunyan, Arutunian, and everything in between...)

It will be interesting if Russia can find one man at least who can give them a fighting chance for the OGM team event. Huge potential for someone to be the bronze medallist or top 5 but they also fall out of top ten.
 
Is it me, or Vetlugin is becoming painful to watch? Beautiful skating, but the falls are just horrid. Poor kid.

I liked Belyavsky’s free skate and Yablokov is always pretty steady.

So, I guess, it’s the test skates next? I need to re-check the cup of Russia schedule!

Holding your breath when Matvei jumps is a good way to train lung capacity :laugh: That one waxel in the SP was the most uncomfortable... I was ok with the fall on the second 4T, it's on par with the other kids trying their new quads. I think his more costly and avoidable mistakes here were the spins and doubled 3A and 3F in the LP. On the bright side, 4T-2T is a step up from last season. 3A seems more problematic for him at the moment.

Yablokov is really good at fighting for a jump if the takeoff/landing is funny. I am often more impressed by his saves that the actual jumps! At least this year's Notre Dame costume has no feathers - last year's one reminded me of Rothbart from Swan Lake. Belyavsky's programme is constructed nicely, hope he gets more speed and amplitude with age (nice 3A though).

Talking of Swan Lake, Kondratiuk's programme is really growing on me despite its weirdness. Decent expression and upper body carriage, and it's nice that his costume is not too literal - no flappy stuff to spoil the silhouette, just some feather-like sparkly pattern :)

I liked Kovalev's FP much more here than at test skates, surprisingly! Also, just realised he is really tall... Back then I was bemused by all the Queen stuff but now I just find it amusing. Guess many people want to be 'having a good time' this season :laugh: But I don't get the baggy white T-shirt and jeans-but-not-really-jeans?
 
I still don’t get Kondratyuk, but I guess, I can get used to it if he gets to skate it often. Oh, yeah, Kovalev was deservedly in the lead. Good for him!

Yup, that’s what I thought when watching Belyavsky this time, that he actually kept me interested with how the elements were put together & that 3A did look good.
 
Do the top 10 qualify for the Russian cup?
Why didn’t Rukhin compete here then? Unless he’ll compete senior, but I don’t know how he’s going to qualify for that.

Vetlugin makes me worry for him every time! Esp. that 3A... his nemesis. Praying he finally gets that jump consistent.
 
I will put the guys news in their fan thread so their fans can discuss if they so desire. Dmitry is undergoing treatment.

1st Cup is next week :agree: Schedule (Syzran time; 1 hour ahead of Moscow):
Sept 19th (20:15) and 20th (14:00) senior men
Sept 21st (19:45) and 22nd (15:00) junior men

They seem to have pushed the senior men SP time back, will double check.

ETA: So senior men were the 1st event on the 19th and now will be the last.....
 
Tough on the guys after being stuck in quarantine in the spring, then to have another setback like this... Get well soon! :pray:
On the bright side, because Artur is so young he has many chances to shine in future, if taken care of. Dima is pretty young too, come to think of it. Luckily as boys they have a bit more time to spare :)

Summary: he had lower back-hip injury, they confirmed inflammation, the course of treatment was effective. He is back in St-P, plans to go back on the ice on Monday. He will continue treatment for the injuries.

For now they plan for him to participate in both CoR and GP stage, but they will adjust once they see him on the ice.

They are grateful for fans’ support, including in Azerbaijan, and Federation’s support that helped with the treatment in Germany.
