2020-21 Russian Men's figure skating

I think chasingneverland meant Kolyada doesn't need to go to COR final as he already qualified for Worlds based on Nationals. Maybe a slight miscommunication.

I guess whether or not he goes to COR Final, it would be fair to give the second spot to the top Not-Kolyada man there.

Given that Kolyada's problems seem to be nerves with competition, I think he needs to have as much competition experience/exposure as he can.

He always competed a lot. That by itself didn't fix the problem. I think the Russian Cup Final would depend on his form and what Mishin thinks about it. It may be a good place to try the 4S one more time.

Definitely. He pretty much had it this time, maybe too eager for the rotation. But it feels like he has enough juice for everything in his program now.
Yes, and he even did a finally triple in the lutz combo. I don’t think he had done that since first time we saw him (test skates?) Maybe the first two or three times. But then it seemed he was too close to the boards and doubled. Don’t think it was planned as a triple at that stage. Please correct me if I’ve got this wrong.

Definitely planned as a triple. I think he just didn't get to do it.

Why did Mishin put the 3Lz+eu+3S combo when Kolyada was tired yet just before the second half? That doesn't make sense points wise to me unless there is a plan for that to be a 4Lz (that would actually be good stratergy - get the other quads out and completed and then there is less pressure on the 4Lz to work.

That combo is probably going to the second half when he gets his quad lutz back. The first half will be all quads, the second half this combo and the axels. I think they're just getting him used to it.

Though I would love to see him try to work on a loop combo, because the euler-salchow could go after a triple axel, and it would rack him up some more points if he could get a lutz-loop combo. Not counting on it, though.

I think it's an unnecessary risk for him peronally knowing his previous issues within the programs. I have no doubt he could learn to do it, but given his inconsistency with solo triple loop I think he might have mental trouble introducing it.

I saw on Twitter.... I know, I know, not the most reliable source... that all national champions will not compete in the cup final, getting a break. Might include Kolyada then, and whoever wins, is the second guy? (Samarin is confirmed to be out with his injuries, understandably).

Makes sense. So the second spot is between Aliev, Ignatov, and Kondratiuk, with a 0.0001% outsider chance for Mozalev? Will Samarin not even compete at the Cup Final?

Depending on where Gumennik is at this point, and if Danielian gets in, I think they are as much in the mix as Mozalev and the other guys, though Aliev is and Ignatov are probably a notch higher in the body of work...

my head hurts just thinking about it! 🤣

:eek2: Are you calling those two a disaster? My fan girl heart bleeds. ;)
Indeed didn't poor Sergei V's skate break and he couldn't skate :( that was such a bummer and a total act of God. Did the Russian Fed ever let him go to Worlds after that? I bet they didn't even though it totally wasn't his fault....:(

2015 Worlds, where he and Kovtun took turns bombing programs. Voronov was 4th in the SP but 17th in the FS, while Kovtun was 16th in the SP, but 6th in the FS.

After that, Voronov never placed high enough at Nationals to be sent to Euros or Worlds.

Well that's both sad and comforting, sad for obvious reasons, but comforting since it meant the Fed did give Sergei V a second chance.

Poor Sergei V, he often did really well in the SP only to have trouble in the FS. Bummer.
