2020-21 Team China Updates

I think China 3 at this point will be Yuchen Wang/Yihang Huang, or Yu/Wang if they try to participate next season at all.

There is also Feiyao Tang/Yongchao Yang. They were fourth at Junior Worlds in 2019. They withdrew from COC this season. People are saying Tang is currently recovering from injuries. If they are physically okay, I do think they are a better pair than Wang/Huang.

I was wondering what had happened to them. I do agree they're better than Wang/Huang.

For me, China does need to invest more into Pairs after Beijing, the way I see it currently. They produced outstanding Pairs skaters for many, many quads in a row, truly the very best in the world (and I'm including P/J there), but after Beijing, I'm somewhat less convinced the Chinese team will be as strong. S/H will probably retire, and P/J might stick around for a world title, but probably won't skate till Milan. We know there must be a lot of BTS prep going on for Beijing and beyond, so fingers crossed, and here's to hoping that Tang/Yang and Wang/Huang will be putting in more effort. The guidance is there; if they seek it, they'll shoot right up to the mark.

What? Does that mean he will train part time in Toronto and part time in Harbin?
He's been receiving virtual coaching from Orser's Team for a while now. Some news clips released during COC had talked about virtual training sessions. So adding Brian and Tracy as his coaches on his bio doesn't surprise me. Given the limitations and challenges presented by the pandemic, I expect Boyang to continue receiving virtual coaching. As always, my best wishes to Boyang.

And since we are on the topic...There were speculations/rumors posted online about the reasons he did not go to TCC in 2018. Some of them resurfaced recently and are being used to portray him in a negative way. Boyang never really pointed to one single thing as the sole reason he didn't go. He did say, however, that the supposed coaching change at the time was not something the federation had discussed with him. He himself did not know about the arrangement beforehand, which, again, is not something unusual when it comes to the Chinese Federation. And after taking everything into consideration, he chose to stay with his original coaching team. I do not know what changed or if anything changed besides the circumstances (i.e., given the pandemic, everybody is engaging in some level of virtual training/coaching), but it seems at least this time it is not something that was arranged without his input.

Maybe the 3rd pair had to drop out because of adverse reaction to the vaccines? Although getting vaccinated so close to departure seems like a bad move. You just never know how your body will react.

Maybe someone who can read Chinese will chime in.

I really doubt they got vaccinated right before leaving. Everyone knows it takes 2 weeks to be fully immunized so what would be the point of doing it within days of the event?

I don't think we'll know why Wang/Huang WD... But I agree that they couldn't possibly have been vaccinated *right before* leaving, exactly for being cautionary about its effects. So if they only WD only yesterday (? unsure of the timeline) as is said, I'm guessing it's something else entirely. Maybe they couldn't go while they were still in China because they got injured, and we only got to know now.

ETA: In other news I am pretty sure I read that Yan Han will be skating a new program at the WCs, and that he'll upgrade his content.

they didn't fly to Stockholm, it could be the pair didn't show up at the registration, then got removed from the list. the chinese federation didn't notify the organiser earlier.

Thanks for the information, haven't been able to keep up with everything on Weibo (haven't visited Baidu at all for a while lol).

Not due to adverse reaction to vaccines, instead, Wang is too young to receive vaccine... (saw this 'unconfirmed' information from Baidu discussion forum, but could not locate the source...)

Based on today’s interview, Sui was injured (yea again) after CoC in November.

they were unable to back on ice until 20 Jan. One month ago, she even couldn’t jump at all.... ....

glad its all done!!

believe they will go straight away to prepare for the Olympics! They already have a few plans!

watch out! Boys and girls... the queen is coming back! 😊

will they get new programs for Olympics? i love them but i'm kind of tired to see only 2 sets of programs from them

I think it's obvious they will. Again, and Han said this in an interview after the short, they couldn't get new choreo because he was still injured/recovering (i think he had the surgery july or something?).
