We could all become vegans and forgo pets (not personally appealing ideas to me), but some compromise in terms of restricting live animal markets/regulating farming conditions might help.

But doesn't coronavirus spread through air? I don't think eating meat has anything to do with it.

The coronavirus was originally a bat virus which spread to humans via a meat market, where wild animals were sold. China has banned the trade and consumption of these wild animals which are known to carry the bat virus. The prevalent L type (∼70%) is more virulent than the S type (∼30%) that is an ancestral bat virus. The L type has evolved or mutated from the bat virus to infect humans more effectively.

I know, but through air not through consuming eat. At least that's what wikipedia says.
The infection is spread from one person to others via respiratory droplets produced from the airways, often during coughing.

my quarantine just got sadder, but it's the right desicion even though i was looking forward this event and especially the live chat

I feel totally numb. I was looking forward to it so much. What a wonderful and amazing season and then the anticipated climax! It would have been epic skating and an epic live chat.

Hope you and your family are well, elektra.

I think all sports events will eventually be canceled/suspended. The NBA just suspended the season after a player was tested positive.

So far college sports are going on without audience. I’m sure that is subject to change.

I'm sorry you're underestimating the whole situation.

Two weeks ago I would have agreed with you, but not now. Not after my entire country has been locked down, not after having to queue outside the supermarket as in war, infections and deaths continue to increase, doctors are forced to work for endless days, the health system is collapsing and in a few days the doctors will probably have to choose between those who can survive and those who can't… And believe it or not the Italian Health System is one of the best in the world and, above all, it's FREE, this means that everyone has access to medical care and you don't have to spend large sums every year. When the virus will spread to countries like the United States that do not have public health care I'm afraid it will be a massacre.

Cancelling Worlds was the right decision to help stop this pandemic.

That I would reckon depends on how it was dealt with at the beginning of outbreak in that respective country.

We in Asia(outside China) have been dealing with this corona virus since end of Jan, during Chinese New Year.
Till today, no death reports in my country. The whole of SEA countries thus far only 3 deaths.

So, by comparison, it is less lethal(as in death toll) than H1N1. H1N1 in 2009 killed faster, with death reports every day. For those of us who have gone thru H1N1, before that SARS, COVID-19 is more of a slower mover.

The overwhelming majority of Americans have private health insurance or Medicare or Medicaid, so I don’t think it will be a “massacre.”

We have one of the worst health systems in the developed world. I think it will get pretty bad. A good friend of mine, very smart, retired JAG attorney, fears restrictions on interstate travel soon. That would disrupt the supply chain on just about everything.

About 9%, or 28 million, of Americans have no health insurance. That's significant. And horrifying!

And they will get sick at the same rate if not more than the insured. I just hope we have enough beds.

Can we award the title of World Champion to the skater/pair that got the highest score at European/4CC? That will help raise the importance of those events going forward.

No, because athletes like Nathan chose not to attend 4CC based on it not being the WC. You can’t retroactively make an event/s that’s already been held the WC.

May I also recommend reading the article that the same author published the day before:

By the way, you are limited to reading 4 articles per month on that website. So, to get around the limit, use private browsing each time you visit the site.

luckily i live far from the outbreak

Guess who's still not over the fact that Yelim's first WC ever, junior or senior, is not going to happen... I mean, it was the right call, but she's in Canada right now for heaven's sake... A curse on the ISU for not caring a single bit about the skaters

It's very disappointing, especially for the skaters who worked so hard to qualify for these Worlds, but it was a wise decision in light of the worldwide coronavirus outbreak.

How must the poor skaters who were busting their guts for minimums be feeling right now?
