In this case, it’s not arrogance. Ten day quarantine right before competition is just not viable in figure skating.

You are right, I agree. I was too quick with my words. Indeed ten day quarantine right before competition is not viable in figure skating.

Well there would have been an option to arrive >10 days in advance to do the quarantine and then practice and get back into shape after, but obviously that's a lot of time and money that isn't really worth it, especially since the ISU let them just enter their skaters elsewhere.

The ISU let them enter 4 men, women and dance in Kosice. That makes up for FRA1. Will the Russians get 5 skaters for each of those disciplines in Krasnoyarsk to make up for FRA2?

I like this skate by Keegan.... and lots of room for improvement in spins and steps, which will happen evidently ! @mrrice will like this i am sure..

Being a father is also a daunting responsibility. Keegan now has a wife and child to support---competitive figure skating siphons more $$ away than it brings in.

This is a fact that we can all understand. Does Keegan have sponsors? He's so popular in Canada and the US that I can't imagine he doesn't have good sponsors backing him.

Keegan Messing FS. My husband watched this and asked if he was recovering from covid 😞. I hope it’s just a skate issue or something, I had him a lock for that Olympic spot.

to me, it just looks like a bunch of small details more than just a stamina, training issue : clearly, there is something with the boot... and of course, when a skater doesn't have confidence in his skates, forget it... then, there seems to be some simple "new program-I am not 100% comfortable with my choreography moments" ... yes... sometimes he looks like he is looking for oxygen... but sometimes, he just looks blank, as if he had forgotten a transition or a few steps. Also, tripling the planned quad toe can make it complicated for any skater in terms of rearranging the jumps patterns.. and that would be even worse within a new program.... in the end, Keegan didn't complete even all of his jump elements... sort of reminds me of another performance I saw of Keegan, early in the year, where he had a boot/lace problem at ACI, and since he lost a minute of his LP, he just had to ignore his choreo and jam pack the end of the program with his jumps and spins... it was a hot mess... I think it's pretty normal. What he does well he does super well... for that early in the year, when skaters are aiming to peak in february for the O games, I am personally not worried at all. Regarding the O games : well look at who his contenders are : Nam = we haven't seen him compete yet have we? Roman, only did a SP... and wasn't as good as Keegan's. Conrad, still not there.... Joseph : MIA... and NIcolas is also MIA but there are rumours that he is switching to pairs... So it is sad to say, but Keegan is still the top dog here, despite that odd and weak LP performance

yeah, that’s why I said I hope it’s just an issue with his skates. They were pretty heavily taped at Worlds, I thought he would have replaced them after but judging from all the tape again, he’s using the same broken down boots? I guess he’s holding off replacing them just yet for whatever reason.
Do we know who’s going to Nebelhorn yet? I thought we would see a little more of Nam and Roman trying to prove themselves for that spot but they’ve been pretty quiet.

Watched (when the stream didn't freeze which it did for the first two jump passes) Maddy's short at the Cranberry Cup International. Didn't get any negative GOE's - including a triple loop triple toe but her PCS wasn't that great (26.18 - more than 4 points lower than at 2021 World's) and she had no level 4's on her spins and a level 2 on the footwork. What I did see was as good as the leaders on speed and flow and interpretation etc, and IMO an improvement from Worlds so not sure why. Anybody with more wisdom and skill to comment? Did something happen during a stream freeze to knock her down? Her total score was 59.70 and she is in 6th place.

Best luck to Maddy tomorrow - I thought she looked great today.

Not sure why Maddy's PCS was so low, but her performance was really strong and she should've definitely been above 60 for that skate. It was probably just a case of being relatively unknown on the international scene...and the level of competition compared to local Canadian competitions is much higher, as the top 6 skaters were all quite good. From what I saw in the sp video, her speed, expression, artistry, and flow have improved tremendously even from Worlds. And I was wary about her music choice for the sp this year, but she really commits to the choreography and expresses the music really well.

Not only that, but she didn't pop any of her jumps. And she was definitely training 3Lz-3T for her combo, so when the 3Lz didn't feel quite right...she was even able to successfully perform a 3Lo-3T on the fly, which I don't think we've ever seen her try before. That just shows the level of competitive fire and ability she has, not willing to give up any points even when things aren't perfect, which is rare and exciting for a Canadian lady. Looking forward to Maddy's FS! :cheer:

We got to see her land a very nice opening combination in the free program, at least. Lots of other interruptions, but it looks solid. The judges at Cranberry weren't wild about her in general, I would say, which is probably in part due to homerism, but whatever. Great opportunity to compete for an audience with some big names.

nothing is new there regarding low PCS for uprising Canadian skaters... it took Gabby forever to get recognition... Let's not even mention Joannie Rochette who pretty much was "robbed" in PCS all her career.

Great Free Skate for Madeline, looking strong early in the season! 3rd in the Free Skate, 5th overall...not bad for her first outing, especially against high level competitors. Might've even been on the podium if her PCS was judged fairly, but that's to be expected.

All in all Maddy has really great programs this year, her 3Lz-3T is money, her artistry and expression has improved, and she still has a lot to build on. Looking forward to seeing her debut on the Grand Prix this year.

Maddie was a bit slow, compared to the skaters who placed above her. Speed can definitely impact PCS. And she is very new to elite level competition; if she continues to skate well at every competition coming up, her PCS scores will rise.
