I think Madeline is a shoe-in for the Olympic spot at this point, barring injury.

though he has won 4CC against skaters like Yuzuru Hanyu and was 5th in the worlds one year, he has never won Canadian championships... he has beaten Patrick Chan though... at Nationals, before seniors

i was watching the men in French ... and well... I still love Bennet and Conrad despite the mishaps today... the commentator said that Conrad earned the TBC spot for Skate Canada. I feel a bit sorry for Joseph but Conrad has improved a lot. His SP was world class (in the 80s).

Nadiia & Peter got a new free dance personal best, but remained in fourth on the JGP. I'm sure a disappointment, but there are definitely points they left on the table in the RD. Still time to improve that for the next event.
As far as the ACI results:
- I feel like Piper & Paul's RD could use some reediting of the music to, outside of the pattern, make things more upbeat in the manner the costumes suggest. But the FD looks promising; I like it more out of the gate than "Both Sides Now".
- I'm sure Marjorie & Zach are disappointed, since a number of the judges really didn't care for them in the PCS/GOE categories, but they had the highest BV in both programs, which is a positive development since getting their levels has been a problem at times historically.
- In the women's field, it really is Maddie, Kaiya or bust for the Olympics; I really cannot, at this point, see anybody else mounting a meaningful challenge.

I don't think Kaiya's PCS would be competitive if her first major senior event is the Olympics. Judges would bury her down... which is not great, considering she is also needed for the team event. I believe Madeline has the best shot of 1) making the team 2) getting the highest score internationally... UNLESS, Gabby figures out her landings. I watched her free program at ACI : big jumps. Big air. The loop looked slow... but the other jumps had great spring. She just rushed the timing often or didn't check out of the jumps strongly enough. Her program otherwise looked so much better and polished than before. She also looked fit. I wouldn't count her out just yet and if she wins Nationals with 2 great skates, Skate Canada will have a hard time not sending her. I am still thinking Maddie will take it though.

I'm sure they'd prefer to send Madeline over Kaiya right now, I'm just saying that it's, as of now, entirely conceivable that it will be hard not to send Kaiya. Kaiya's developed into a very consistent skater, and while we hope to say the same for Madeline, she hasn't actually been seen much yet; if she doesn't have a good fall season and struggles at nationals, and Kaiya does better, then that's kind of that.
As far as Gabrielle goes, this entire quadrennial has been a disaster for her. She hasn't delivered a good program in years. And as of right now, she has no other assignments until nationals, though the fed should probably give her another Challenger just to see if things turn out better. Even if she had a great nationals, I don't think you could have faith that she could replicate it, at this point. She is, if not out of road, very close to being so.

I believe she is Olympic eligible this season. I do think that the Olympic spot will be between Kaiya and Madeline, and if Gabby gets a lot better as the season goes on, possibly her too.

The Nebelhorn draws ended up being seeded, which is great since Roman is in the final group, no problem to watch live for most Canadians.
3:49 am PDT? I think it will be a problem for me to watch live. Of course, most Canadians live in EDT zone, so it will be 3 hours later for them.

Great! Makes sense. I like it when they are seeded. Shows that past history matters, a bit. Also, the skaters that have been around longer, tend to be seeded towards the end. So, this allows me to fast forward to the final two groups, in most cases.
Also, Shin Amano has been selected as technical specialist for this event. So, Roman needs to make sure his jumps are fully rotated. I hope he has a clean skate tmrw and is in the top 6 group after the short program.

Heh, well the best news is that Roman's mental conditioning has improved a bit, as he managed to gut out the rest of the jumps after the opening fall, and is still in the final qualification position. Given that the short is usually the weaker program, he should be able to see this through (but then, many skaters should be able to do a lot of things). And there's the "Swedish" eighth spot as a safety cushion, though let's hope we don't need to wait on that.
Natalie & Bruce are skating at the end of the first RD group tomorrow; not the best draw, since both their main rivals are in the final group, but this is all about scores (probably) anyway.
Piper & Paul are featured in the Canadian Olympic Committee's new lululemon ad, which I would say confirms (as most would guess) that they're likely to be the figureheads of Canadian figure skating going into this Olympics:

Just saying, Roman got the third highest PCS score... his lowest was a 7.79 in performance, and I can see why. I wish him so much to open up and to exhibit his beautiful lines and skating skills, he needs just another drop of courage, although he is being tested by having so many eyes upon him and by being placed in this fragile position
