I don’t get how anyone can realistically see Lindsay on the team. She’s 16 (practically) and didn’t have the confidence or ambition to turn senior this year. They aren’t going to send someone who’s only been completely on the JGP to the Olympics.
In 2014, they sent Polina Edmunds, who also had only the JGP (and JGPF) and she finished 8th at the Olympics.

The truth of the matter is Lindsay is skating better than any other US lady we have seen at the moment barring Alysa. Even in Juniors she has managed an average higher than Amber or Karen. And while her seasons best isn’t better than Amber or Karen’s, I believe she can get 200+ provided she skates consistent and goes to a senior competition (choreographic sequence extra points plus an increase in PCS) So far, Lindsay is looking like the #2 American skater for the Olympics. That being said, things may (and probably will change.) Karen may score 200+ for the rest of her events, as maybe will Mariah. Bradie may come back better than ever. However, at the moment, Lindsay is looking better than everyone else. Of course I think unless someone like Mariah or Bradie really stun us or Alysa all of a sudden has a quads again and rotated triple axels I think it should just be top 3 senior eligible women at nationals go. None of the ladies really have proven to me that any of them deserve a guaranteed Olympic spot…not even Alysa. (Granted she probably will be top 3 senior eligible women but who knows? Ice is slippery.)

But I really don’t think there is any feasible argument to be made against Lindsay not going provided she gets the senior minimums and has a top 3 finish at Nationals. She is right in the conversation and atm is looking better than most other contenders. But I will not lie I’d be very sad if Mariah couldn’t manage to get to the Olympics. I’ve always had a soft spot for her.
You are right.

At the beginning of the season I didn't think Lindsay would be a factor. There were 4-5 ladies I figured would push her out of an Olympic spot. But as the season has been going most of the ladies I thought were stronger/better/more consistent/more artistic are shaky. Bradie and Mariah could turn things around, Karen could round into form but they are all running out of time. The longer the season goes I am resigning myself to a team of Alyssa, Lindsay and one of Bradie/Mariah/Karen. (maybe Amber but I'm doubtful).

It sure would be more exciting if the top 6 US ladies were all healthy and really fighting it out each competition for that team spot but injuries etc. aren't allowing most US ladies to build momentum.

With injuries and the US skaters so far not exactly lighting the world on fire, anyone could compete for a medal at nationals this season.

Won’t be a shock if we have a long shot winning the whole thing.

Did fourth - nineth not exist? I have no problems with Mirai's placement or if she focused on the team competition, that was her decision, the poster i replied to said it was a mistake to send Polina to Sochi, I was pointing out she technically placed better than Mirai did at the Olympics she was sent to in 2018, Mirai is who would have been sent if not Polina.
Yes, fourth does exist, which Mirai placed at Vancouver, far better than Polina's ninth at Sochi. And Mirai was chosen, even at the end of her career at age 25, to compete in the team competition, which Polina never was.

Neither Mirai in 2018 nor Polina in 2014 did particularly well at their assigned placements. In fact, none of the US women did well in 2018, but Bradie was the highest placing US woman despite her lack of experience and, at the time, PCS deficiencies. ( She has improved so much in the last 4 years)

Lindsay actually has many positive qualities. Her jumps are better than any of the Senior women who are likely to be sent to the Olympics. She has nice extension, good spins, pretty nice edges, wonderful soft knees, and quite good SS. Her two weaknesses are her lack of speed and her expressionless face. I'm not sure she will learn how to express emotions on the ice before the Olympics. But, I think her speed problem is not as serious as some other skaters because she is capable of getting speed. She just focuses so much on doing things perfectly that she doesn't use speed effectively. If she works on her speed prior to Nationals/ the Olympics, I think she could score well. I don't think her lack of experience as a Senior should be held against her. She wasn't able to participate as a junior internationally in the 2020-2021 Season due to COVID-19.

If Isabeau were age eligible, I would guess she would be make the Olympic team. With the exception of Alysa none of the U.S seniors are setting the world on fire, and it seems like for most of them, their peak skating years are behind them. It is quite frankly a lean lean year for U.S. women, I wouldn't say the juniors are overly impressive either (Except for Isabeau, and perhaps a future for Mia Kalin who is at least landing a quad). Starting at juvenile level U.S. coaches need to work on skating speed and rotation speed (much of which is off ice training with rope rotation drills), or we will be facing another lean decade. Triple axels and/or quads are here to stay, and if we can't get our skaters to that level we will be left behind for a long time.

It just depends on how one views Olympic berths I guess. If one isn’t going to be competitive for medals I’d prefer that spot to go to someone who has been representing the US well for a long time than some one who is just coming out of juniors (and as I’ve pointed out in the past some skaters are never able to make that transition).

It’s so important to the athletes, and there are a plethora of competitions one can send young skaters to to get experience - senior Bs, Challengers, 4CCs.

To me it’s just another comp, to the athletes definitely not.

True, I've said for a long time, like since Nationals last year, that they should go off Nationals results. If some combination of Mariah/Karen/Amber/Bradie truly beats Lindsay and finishes in the top 3 age-eligible at Nationals, then send them (though if we see some crazy PCS I reserve the right to voice displeasure on that). They all have 'drawbacks' to why to put them on the team, Karen/Mariah/Amber have had years to address their problems and if they have worked on them - we haven't seen a positive impact when it comes to competition (note: Mariah I'm referencing last season).

TES-wise Lindsay is far more competitive to placing well vs. Mariah/Karen/Amber; she actually does FS TES that's comparable to the Russians and Japanese. And if we aren't going to go off competition results, I give points to Lindsay, she's improved since last year and she's improved technically since her first JGP this season; meanwhile: Karen's FS this season is the same jumps from the last Olympics the only change is some placement of the jumps in the program; Amber as well is doing very similar layouts to what she's done years past, and I'd be willing to bet Mariah's layouts are going to be quite similar to what she's done in years past.

Do you realize you are also describing Alysa Liu there? She just turned senior this year and based off the GP series so far to be competitive for medals while she is more competitive than Mariah/Karen/Amber/Bradie, she's going to need to significant improvement between now and the Olympics or else she's dependent on the Russians, Japanese and S. Korean skaters messing up for her to have a shot at the podium. So do you prefer Mariah/Karen/Amber/Bradie being put on the team over Alysa? I mean her senior international career started in September, Lindsay's is starting in November, 2 months is not a long time.

Alysa is a two time ladies senior National champion. And even if she comes in 4th she’s on my team. Unless Karen falls completely out of top 6 at Nationals she’s getting a spot on my team because she’s why we have a 3rd spot. But we don’t have to worry about it as I’m not on the committee.

Audrey and Starr are in 4th and 5th place at Cup of Austria. Why they don't put gabriella izzo or Lindsay? Either of them can win GOLD easily. Seriously, they need to stop from betting on Audrey and Starr.

Izzo & Thorngren are assigned to Warsaw Cup next weekend.

Agree with some of your post, but am confused by this. I haven't watched JGP's, just checked a few results. Lindsay has a score in the 180's, and a 193 with a bronze medal, losing to two Russian JUNIOR girls. Recognizing one less element in juniors, her scores might, that is might, surpass Karen and Amber, but her scores are in no way comparable to senior Russian or Japanese skaters. Kamilla just did a 260+, a watered down Trusova program broke 230, Sakamoto regularly breaks 220 ,

barring a sub top 5 finish at nationals, Alysa is going to the olympics.

unfortunately i think Amber has buried herself. she needed to show consistency across every single outing this season and its just not happening. unless she's national champion, she's out.

i'm holding out for Karen. as others have said she knows when to peak at the right time and USFSA will back her if she does really well at nationals, which she has a trend of doing, despite the couple of poor showings she's had this year.

not going to comment on Mariah or Bradie as we really haven't seen them at all.

I'm so excited for the culmination of the championship series. Any predictions who will get the 8(?) Nationals spots? I am rooting for Ting, Hanna, and Gracie. I was trying to find a list of who holds the spots so far but couldn't find anytbing.

I have assumed that Lindsay's scores will rise if she competes clean at the Senior level. What has been most impressive to me about Lindsay is her consistency (which only Alyssa has shown this year). If she skates well this weekend (relative to the other US ladies) I would expect her PCS to "improve" by nationals.

First, a general FYI that until late Saturday night, final standings for the entire Championship Series will not be resolved for Senior Women.
Spokane's Senior Women FS will start at 7:55 pm PT on Saturday, with 22 entries (unless there are any WDs).

Among Spokane's entries are some who potentially could factor into the nine Senior Women from the entire Series who will advance to Nats -- no matter how Alpharetta's Senior Women have scored by then (their FS is on Friday).

Good luck to all!

Going into the final 2 qualifiers this weekend (Alpharetta and Spokane), does anyone have the list of the 9 who currently have the highest scores?

Everything below excludes Thorngren and Andrews, who both already have byes to Nats.

Based on the final standings, the nine who will advance to Nats:
- Top two from each section;
- Next best top three from the nation.

Current standings:
Top two from Eastern section
193.69 Izzo, Gabriella (Norwood); also competed in Allen
172.62 Heiner, Jill (Leesburg); entered in Alpharetta
Top two from Pacific
163.95 Budko, Alena (Henderson); entered in Alpharetta
157.41 Inthisone, Isabelle (Leesburg); entered in Spokane
Top two from Midwestern
164.29 Hawk, Finley (Blaine); also competed in Fort Wayne
162.05 Warne-Jacobsen, Wren (Blaine); also competed in Fort Wayne
Next best three nationwide
171.51 Harrell, Hanna (Henderson); entered in Spokane
169.75 Ikenishi, Rena (Leesburg); also competed in Norwood
163.62 Gold, Gracie (Leesburg); entered in Alpharetta

Rankings are based on highest total score from one competition.
To advance to Nats, skaters must have the tech minimums for SP (20.0) and FS (38.0), which can be met at two separate competitions.

Looking at these numbers, Izzo can’t be counted out for a nationals medal.

I’m getting the feeling that unless Bradie comes back at full strength (hopefully she does) that there might be a sub-200 medal score.

Gracie was holding the last spot before this past weeks comp. Not sure if Ting has another comp. she did not have a good outing in her last one.
