That's different story. We all know that she lost triple lutz. If you look up Jacky Wong's practice notes, Karen couldn't land triple lutz in practice anymore. 16th at Olympics + 8th at World is pretty bad result for her. I
You mean triple Loop? She landed all of her Lutz in competition. Loop is the problem jump, but still, looking at the practice notes, she was landing it some.

Yes. 100% agree with you. I also hope that USFed can treat Alysa better. It's so obvious that Alysa is NOT US fed's favorite for some reasons. Kind of like....Koari is Japan Fed's favorite but Wakaba is not. Alysa got robbed at World (short program) while Wakaba got robbed at Olympics. Both Alysa and Wakaba don't have federations on their back. I won't be surprised if Mariah and Karen got the best GP assignment (Skate America) while Alysa got the worst assignment (NHK Trophy) again.
Not sure what US Fed has to do with Alysa’s scores at Worlds SP. And US Fed only determines host pick at SA as far as I know.

That’s so weird. Isn’t loop the easiest jump? Well aside from things like waltz jump?

There is absolutely no chance Alyssa will get assigned to NHK. Because she medaled at Worlds, she seeded with the other medalists skater, and can't be assigned to a GP with another medalist. Kaori has first choice of assignments, and she will 99.9999999...% pick NHK. It will be interesting to see what her second choice will be. Leona expresses her preferences next, and I would expect her to prefer assignments in Europe (France and Finland for Rostelecom?) Alyssa gets what's left, which I expect to be Skate America and whatever else is left.

Loop is generally considered harder than Salchow and Toeloop but easier than Flip and Lutz. However, it can depend on the skater. Loop is actually Karen’s best jump after the Lutz (for those who don’t believe it watch her Nationals SP where she does the most stunning 3Loop), so yeah, it’s pretty bizarre.

Karen always seems to underrotate her loop even worse than her lutz. She has great spring in her lutz, but the loop, not su much.

kind of off topic and pretty random, but could ESPN bring back the body issue this year? i think it would be cool to see a US skater in it again!

Got you. Who has higher priority to get Skate America assignment? National Champion (Mariah) or World medalist (Alysa)? National Champion and 2nd place always get Skate America GP assignment.

Elite skaters like Polina Edmunds can explain to you how skaters with Federation's support got inflated scores at international events (Olympics, World). In general speaking, skaters from small federations (South Korea, Georgia) don't get generous scores compared to skaters from big federations (USA, Russia, Japan). Skaters (Kaori, Mariah) with federation support always get generous scores boost. Federation has big influence on judges. Even though Bell had shaky jumps landings like the ones in Olympics, she could still got good scores as long as she didn't fall on the jumps. Skaters like Alysa, Young You and Wakaba are not that lucky. They need to have clean programs with perfect fully rotated jumps. Young You and Alysa Liu got robbed at World's short program, both of them should be placed higher than Bell. I still don't understand why Wakaba only got 75 score with fully rotated 3A and backloaded triples (Olympics) vs Mariah get 72 score with underrotated triple/triple (World).

Anyway, Young You should get small medal at World, not Bell.

I know it's off topic. Nathan Chen (USA federation's favorite) also got big advantage in PCS scores boost. I like Nathan but his artistic is not at the same level as Hanyu, not even close.

USFSA has 3 "host picks" in each discipline, so does their priority really matter?

A better question is "who has priority, the host's pick or the medalist's pick?". That I'm not sure about. At any rate, I can't see Kaori or Loena picking Skate America over Cup of China and/or Skate Canada. Maybe they'd pick SA over Rostelecom if R is in Russia.

If both continue next season I would assume Alysa and Mariah would both get assigned Skate America as they're both the only American options in their respective seeds (much like Ashley and Gracie getting Skate America together in 2016 after Ashley's silver and Gracie's 4th). Probably the third spot will be determined in the summer by who's looking good, though I'd guess Lindsay, Amber and Starr would all be in the mix along with any other successful US juniors moving up to seniors next season (are Isabeau and Clare age eligible?). I would guess that if Bradie is healthy she'll get a 'returning skater' slot elsewhere.

Thank you for clarifying the GP assignment rule. In the past few years, the top 2 at National championship got Skate America assignments. That's why Amber Glenn and Bradie got SA last year. The third spot was reserved for second tier skaters (Audrey shin, Andrew Starr...etc) This year is difference because Alysa Liu got World medal. Alysa didn't get any medal at National Championship though. Perhaps Mariah, Karen and Alysa got Skate America GP assignment this year?

Isabeau would likely get SA host pick as the most promising new senior. Even if the age increase goes through she will still be able to turn senior next season.

No, that would be very unlikely. I'm not sure Karen will do the GP based on her comments about going back to school, anyways, but if all of them do, I'd be shocked to see all three at SA. The USFS normally keeps one host spot open and assigns it after summer comps (normally for someone who didn't get two spots on their own, based on good summer results, the last nationals, etc.). And currently Alysa, Mariah and Karen would be considered the top 3 US women, and big federations don't normally want to put all their top skaters against each other at a GP, if they can get non-host assignments.

But like I said, we don't know which of them will even compete on the GP next season for sure.

I don't see Karen coming back she has maxed out her potential and her results internationally have been getting worse for years now.

Her 3S is very good, too. I'm surprised they didn't consider using it in place of the 3Lo, especially because she could have largely kept the existing choreography by doing the jumps in the same place. But I suppose that, given her history of putting out great programs after shaky practices, her team thought she might have pulled it off again.
