Wow, it'll be a busy month for Alysa: Champs Camp, then Lombardia, then (I assume) Nebelhorn! Hopefully she'll train in Italy between Lombardia and Nebelhorn instead of flying back to the US.

Lombardia looks like it'll be a good comp for US women. With clean skates, Alysa should be the favorite to win and Audrey should podium :love2:
As long as Alysa is paced very carefully, I'm all for it! I'm hoping too that her PCS scores will steadily improve, as well as all of her jumps, before these international judging panels as the Olympic season goes on!

As others have already pointed out, this is not the case at all! To add to some of the other skaters that have already been mentioned, Olympic champions Tenley Albright (1952 - Silver, 1956 - Gold), Carol Heiss (1956 - Silver, 1960 - Gold), and Peggy Fleming (1964 - 6th, 1968 - Gold), and the immortal Sonja Henie of course attended 4 Olympics, winning Gold in her last 3 Olympics!

At this early stage, I'm very encouraged by the progress so far by the U.S. ladies - especially (no pressure!) Alysa Liu! Congratulations to Alysa on winning her first International this year! Onwards and upwards! She still has a ways to go yet to improve her PCS scores, and hopefully get her big jumps back and fully rotated, but she's already showed so much tremendous progress, even from Nationals! I LOVE both of her new programs for the Olympic season! Both feel 'Olympian' to me! I also LOVE that, like Alysa, several of the up and comers are going for triple axels and quad jumps as well!
Im aware of the history. I was referring to the era immediately before Kwan, 70's to 90's, where skaters that peaked usually went pro after the Olympics.

Well I didn't see where you specified a particular era, just that you stated that skaters don't usually attend more than one Olympics - which isn't the case at all in any of the sport's eras.

You are correct. It was just a quick comment, so I really wasn't as specific as I should have been. I went back and fixed it, lol. Thanks. However, the main point I was trying to make was that at that time it was unusual for someone that reached top level as Kwan did, to stay around so long. As another fan pointed out, it is probable Michelle would have turned pro had she won the Olympics in Nagano.

"Relevance" is in the eye of the beholder.

For one thing, I would mention that ISP Points Challenge had significant prize money at stake.
Mariah's first place overall in ISP Points Challenge earned her $15,000. :)

(Alysa's fourth place overall earned her $3,000.
It was well before the Dec 2020 announcement of her Team Toyota sponsorship -- which I hope became a big help financially.)
Yay that was a competition without any detailed judge information. Even Bell had a bad LP where she had two falls(?) and she still won over Bredie, Amber, Alysa. So why should Toyta sponsor an athlete who wasn't favoured by USFA ? USFA gave Bell so much previlege last season in such small competitions and hyped Bell. But she failed to Alysa in the "big" competitons that have fair judges , open selection, detailed score protocols like U.S Champs.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say in reference to Toyota.

But if anyone is wondering why I brought up Toyota:

I do not have any problem with Toyota's choice of Alysa for sponsorship.

My point was that I would guess(?) that if Alysa had won ISP Points Challenge, $15,000 for first place probably would have been a very welcome "windfall" for her at that time.

I was saying that even if(???) Alysa's eventual Toyota funding is so generous that $15,000 would not make much difference to her at present, she did not yet have the Toyota sponsorship at the time of ISP Points Challenge.
(I have no idea as to the order of magnitude of the Toyota funding.)

(Lest anyone wonder: I hope that skaters were motivated to do their best for ISP Points Challenge because they always care about skating well. I do not think that they cared only about prize money.)

I also worry about her competing too much and feeling burnt out. However, she really does need to get in front of the judges so she can see her PCS marks rise to world-class levels like we saw in previous Olympic seasons from Julia L and Alina.

When are Nebelhorn and Lombardia? It is a little worrying to think that Alysa's doing 3 competitions in a row before the GP even starts. Could be a double edged sword.

i don't think she will have an issue with burn out. it's important to get yourself out there and prove consistency as a first year senior, but even more so since the juniors didn't have a season at all last year and we didn't really see Alysa at all. this is a smart move from her team- get her name out there and show she's a contender.

CLARE WAS* DONE DIRTY. She deserved higher PCS 😾 PE, IN and SS should've been noticeably higher than Lindsay's (who also did well!). I was shook at her StSq, it was so powerful! Also, I'm in LOVE with her spins, the positions are magnificent 💗

Video of Lindsey and Claire from the SP at JGP France I. Good showing for the US girls!

happy to see both of them go clean, haven't watched Lindsey yet but really happy for Clare's score and having a good first outing on the international scene. she has a really nice commitment to the music in addition to her speed and skating skills. i still think she needs to be higher in SS and Interpretation.

Given the developments around the Grand Prix I wonder if Alysa’s team is working under the impression that the grand prix series might not happen.

An important thing with the scoring is the rise in PCS new promising seniors see from the beginning to the end of the season, if the GP series doesn't happen will that rise from multiple great performances and finishes not happen in time for the Olympics?

I remember when Tuk made her big comeback in 2014/ 2015. She was scheduled for 10 events and competed at 9 of them. She did 3 Senior B's that year and her coaches said it was the best thing she could have done. By the time her BIG events, Nationals, Europeans, and Worlds came along, all of her competition nerves were gone and she really delivered.

Maybe that's what Alysa's team is trying to do with her. There was no guarantee that all of the events would happen so I think it was wise to fill her schedule. She can always withdraw if she gets injured our starts to feel burnt out or overly fatigued.

Has there been any decisions or statements regarding edits to the GP now that one event has been cancelled and senior Russian skaters might not be allowed to go to France?

If the GP was cancelled, I think it would hurt Alysa from that perspective. Until she competes against some of the top Russian and Japanese seniors, the judges won't have a good sense of how she stacks up against them. Like Sarah Hughes beating Michelle and Irina at Skate Canada before winning the OGM, Alysa needs to make the judges believe that she's good enough to beat the best by doing just that in a GP event.

now that i've seen Lindsay's skate i agree even more than i initially did. there absolutely should have been a lot more space between their scores. i'm going to attribute this to Clare being an unknown on the international circuit...if she keeps performing like this her scores will be boosted.

I wish Lindsay went for the 3Lz3Lo!

Good job to both young ladies for a strong SP in the first JGP of the season.

Clare has so much natural talent! Tammy is a better coach than we give her credit for! I think she’s only gotten better since being in Colorado springs.

I see Lindsay as a “jack of all traits, master of none” type of skater. I don’t mean that in a negative way in the slightest. She has some really good qualities and I enjoy her more each time I see her. I really look forward to her growth.
