Winning without top scores elsewhere could only get you as high as Group 3. If they remain healthy and skate their best, it's possible that Alysa, Karen, and Bradie could achieve Group 2, and if they did they would have a stong argument to bump a Group 3 National champ based on the criteria. Personally, I wish there was some way to reward the champ with a bump ahead of the other medalists, but I guess the USFSA doesn't want to have to send the winner in situations where the USA has one spot and a favorite underperforms.The ISU has nothing to do with it. As long as skaters are eligible, it's up to the individual federations - in this case the USFSA. Under the US selection criteria, winning isn't a guaranteed spot. It would certainly help her case though. I don't think they'd want to leave the National Champ off when there are 3 spots.
